Michigan Loses, Coach Melts Down at the Podium
Video, Women's Sports February 29th. 2008, 10:43amOrdinarily, we’d recap the night in the NHL and NBA by now, but a reader sent in this video and it is too rich to pass up. Here we have Michigan women’s hoops coach Kevin Borseth flipping the F out following a loss to Wisconsin. It’s a meltdown of epic proportions, right up there with Michigan State coach John L. Smith going bezerk and the Greatest Radio Meltdown of All-Time. That’s Michigan!

They are who we thought they were!
February 29th, 2008 at 10:49 AM
He needs to calm down. He shouldn’t get worked up over something so minor. It’s not like it’s a sewing competition.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:50 AM
So coach, could you give us two words to describe why you lost tonight?

i love the entrance. it’s like where george spun kramer into the room and the back of his tux ripped
February 29th, 2008 at 10:52 AM
The backless dress!
This would be a Coors Light commercial…but for the fact that it’s women’s hoops…and nobody knows who the f this guy is.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:54 AM
@TBL: The entrance was classic, the flying punch into the screen.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:54 AM
at least he was coherent, unlike dennis green. the minute a reporter man’s up and asks who he thought they were, let me know.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:56 AM
Off topic but it’s funny, ESPN has one headline saying Anderson rejects Browns and becomes free agent and then their top story is Anderson, Browns reach deal.
Chris Mortensen reported both of them to cover his ass.

There was just a HUGE article on the front of the Sports section in the Ann Arbor News yesterday about this guy. About 20 pictures of him and big article about how animated he is, how the players love him and how he has turned the program around. He is emotional and takes it seriously, which is what you want from any coach at most any level.
The meltdown? Big deal! Perhaps it motivates the players. He didn’t swear, he didn’t get too personal and didn’t apperar to offend anybody.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:59 AM
whatever happened to Magglio?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Yeah I mean he was pissed but he cares, basically reminded me of how pissed I get when my teams suck.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Any day that I’m reminded of Mike Valenti’s meltdown is a good day. I used to live in suburban Detroit, and his show is actually really good; he’s passionate and knowledgable, and he’s funny as hell and usually pretty respectful when callers disagree with him (and flat-out hilarious when they get a little out of control and he goes off). But that doesn’t stop me from pulling out a “MAKE PLAYS” joke every once in a while.
JEHUU CAULCRICK WAS A BOWLING BALL!!!

@412
Magglio is busy with spring training. He is coming off a batting championship and now has Cabrara batting behind him!
February 29th, 2008 at 11:06 AM
[...] What’s the best part of this video? The Cosmo Kramer entrance or the coach completely throwing his players under the bus. Good Lord, this man is psychotic. (The Big Lead) [...]
February 29th, 2008 at 11:07 AM
mmm…sandwich competition.
im hungry as fuck right now. i had a mcskillet burrito for bfast. it was tasty.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
@412: Didn’t Maggs say last week that he was “done commenting” after somebody ripped him for something? Damn I wish I had the motivation to find that. I think it was in one of the Roundups.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
FYI, Derek Anderson did become a free agent. Then he signed with the Browns.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Maybe I do have the motivation.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Spencer, had one too, got a medium drink just so I could get a free one.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:18 AM
cbh…i got no salsa shit on mine. that ruins it.
is it sad that ive gotten one the past 2 days just because i got a free one with a drink?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:18 AM
yea, mags hasnt been around.
he was a cool dude…for a michigan fan (just had to throw that in there)
February 29th, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Thanks Nick.
@ MAggs: we are ALL homers here. please come back. we miss your curly fro
February 29th, 2008 at 11:24 AM
Hahha, talk about feeling self important.
I’m hanging them up guys, bahahahhahaha. It’s like Michael Jordan retired or something.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:25 AM
He’ll be back if/when TP signs w/ UM.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:26 AM
you know what they say, cant take the heat…
February 29th, 2008 at 11:27 AM
I know lozo, but it’s pretty stupid to have 2 stories up that completely counterract each other, Anderson signed with the Browns, so to have a link up saying he is a free agent is pretty stupid.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Maybe he’ll be back when baseball starts. opening day is a month away, and March is pretty lame sports-wise.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:34 AM
@gonzo- march i will barely be at work because of March Madness. cant wait
February 29th, 2008 at 11:34 AM
Spencer – the ‘Michigan fan’ Country Club is still in operation. Mags is always welcome.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:35 AM
I think he’s in our roto league, correct?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
not to be a cunt but anderson hasnt signed yet, just agreed.
god damnit i havent done shit today cuz of NFL free agency.
PFT is my bible.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:37 AM
chelsea…you still remember that? haha, that was a log ways back.
ill be at the OSU lodge, drinking anti-freeze and throwing rocks at things.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:39 AM
@spence: don’t forget bashing mailboxes.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:41 AM
Everyone, sorry for forcing Magglio off the board. I picture him reading all of these postings right now and training for some Rocky-esque commenting comeback to shred me to pieces (even though I thought what I was saying wasn’t unfair or hate-filled…certainly not enough for him to give up the site all together).
February 29th, 2008 at 11:43 AM
no apologies needed ATL… all you did was tell him and spence to get a chat room. trust me, most of the people agreed on here with what you said. ill be the first to admit it
February 29th, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Agreed Atlanta.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:44 AM
you know he’s probably doing pullups with ATL and FAN tattooed on his knuckles.
youre good as dead ATL, mags is gonna come back hard…btw, ill be in your neck of the woods this weekend for a company convention. should i start chewing again to fit in?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:46 AM
@Spence–When you say “chewing,” I’m not sure if you mean tobacco, or one lone piece of hay. Either way, you’ll fit in nicely. Oh, also bring your denim overalls and/or camouflage.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:50 AM
now, should i wear said overalls without a shirt?
in all seriousness, im looking forward to it, i hear ATL is a great city. hopefully i can convince a smokin hot coworker from the florida office to come back to my hotel room.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:59 AM
Dude reminds me of Ed Harris in “The Rock”
“STAND DOWN!!!! HOLSTER YOUR WEAPON, SOLDIER!!!!”
February 29th, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Did you see that on one of the movie channels last night Mizerle?
I can’t remember which one it was on.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:09 PM
@Spence–I can give you some suggestions on where to go, depending on where you’re staying. Lemme know…
February 29th, 2008 at 12:13 PM
atlanta…dude, definitely. i think were staying at 1 Peachtree plaza. i dont have the exact address, ill get it in a few.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:20 PM
I’ve been too Atlanta twice on business but never had time to see the outside of the hotel.
Atlanta, have you been to the Gold Club? Can Joe Schmoe go there or only celebrities?
February 29th, 2008 at 12:39 PM
And speaking of Pryor, at this point I wouldn’t want the kid. I get this feeling that he’s gonna be a prima donna.
Ok, I’d take him. But the first time he got outta line, I’d kick him off the team.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:53 PM
I haven’t heard anything particularly negative about Pryor. From the accounts I’ve been privy to, he actually is fairly grounded. There was the “blow up” when the South Fayette fans were giving him shit, but even that was overblown.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:58 PM
he’s going to OSU. done deal.
he just needs to actually do it so I dont look like a fool.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:18 PM
Now THAT’s how you step to the podium.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:47 PM
lol. I LOVE that entrance. lol!!! So great.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:02 PM
@CBH–Gold Club isn’t around anymore. And Joe Schmoes were allowed in there, but they got the D-level talent because the good stuff was in the champagne room…but don’t fret, there are PLENTY of other clubs to go around. And good ones, too. I was in California visiting a buddy, and their clubs are pretty tame, apparently. A stripper asked where I was from, and when I told her ATL, she said “Oh, so you probably think this club sucks, huh?”
February 29th, 2008 at 2:05 PM
I have seriously watched the first 3 seconds of that video 20 times now.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:10 PM
I have a feeling Pryor will shun both UM and OSU. My guess is he’ll end up at Penn State to stay close to home.
If I were him, I’d to go Oregon and get the fuck away from this snow and winter. I would go right now, if I could.
I’ll never forget the Country Club crack…classic.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:51 PM
sounds like he makes reference to the fact that Big Ten refs suck.
they do. they’re the worst in the nation. horrible.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:59 PM
Classic Simmons column on the Gold Club scandal.
I particularly love this line attributed to Patrick Ewing:
February 29th, 2008 at 4:15 PM
+ 1 for the link, 412. That was a GREAT time to live in Atlanta during the trial…hilarious stuff coming out every day. Andruw Jones standing in the corner watching as strippers perform sexual acts on each other, the Ewing quote, etc…just hilarious.
