Tommy Amaker’s Checkered History is Already Catching Up With Him At Harvard
College Basketball March 3rd. 2008, 1:28pm
Tommy Amaker hasn’t officially done anything wrong, but the Harvard basketball coach sure is dangerously close to crossing the line of illegally recruiting top-flight basketball players to the Ivy League. This is his third stop (Seton Hall, Michigan) and not only has he not won anywhere (one Sweet 16 trip – oooooooo), but he’s also left each school’s basketball program in near-ruins. Also, this must be said about the New York Times – the staff has been trimmed significantly over the couple years, but there’s one constant in the investigative department, and that’s been Pete Thamel. He was among the first to blow open the Diploma Mills scandal, and, as Scott’s Shots points out, he also exposed Auburn for its grades issues. With the amount of shady business going on in college sports, it’s surprising a few more of the major papers don’t have someone employed in such a capacity.

Seton Hall, Michigan… Harvard, the obvious basketball coaching path.

Jay Bilas is finding new reasons to defend Tommy as we speak.

I’m sure Maggs has a thing or two to say about Amaker.

Where has Maggs been? Is he still po’ed about various comments from a few weeks ago?

He hung em up man.

Roethlishotdog – I asked the same question the other day and, apparently, Maggs took his ball and went home when someone suggested that he was a homer. Go figure.

I think Maggs lost his smile.
Gonzo I expect you to understand that reference.

Maybe if Prior commits to U of M he’ll make a triumphant return appearance to go after the OSU fans herein.

Is Haa-vaard a resting spot for Amaker till he can make it back?

That was my thought as well, Roeth.

Amaker was not successful here at Michigan in the W & L column only. There was never a hint that I heard of anything improper. He was always given credit here for getting the program on the right path…he just couldn’t win enough games to stay employed.
There was an article about this in the Ann Arbor News yesterday, but it only said “an assistant” might have done something wrong. Nothing about Amaker himself.
Love the comment about Jay Bilas determining ways to defend him. My thoughts exactly.
