The Roundup: Athletes Are Good People, Too!
Baseball, ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings, NBA, NFL, Race, Tennis, Video March 4th. 2008, 8:26am
Forgot who made the recommendation yesterday, but it was a good call on the hottest “reality show” female we’ve seen in our very limited viewing experiences of reality programming … we nearly went with this photo of Kate Hudson in a thong bathing suit, but decided against it … this shooting at Wendy’s – so sad, but yet another reason never to leave the house because going in pubic is bad for your life expectancy … Where do you people find these photos? … surely it’s only a handful of you who pay attention to these little intros, but how is this dollar/oil situation not worrying anyone? Or perhaps you’re just not expressing it here …
Warrick Dunn, one of the NFL’s good guys, is on the market. (Falcoholic)
Gilbert Arenas, finally cleared to practice. (Wizards Insider)
Real nice piece here on how athletes’ good deeds often go overlooked. (Pittsburgh Live)
Interesting take on the Michigan women’s hoops coach who flipped out at the news conference last week: “One of the good guys got trampled.” Sort of disagree – nobody was judging the guy – the rant was great comedy, that is all. (ESPN)
Blogger’s title, not ours: Beginning of the end for Roger Federer? (All on the Field)
High praise for Outside the Lines. (Morning Call)
In case you missed it, there’s a bit of a Soap Opera going on within the Arizona basketball program. (Tucson Citizen)
Fantastic question: Why does Lawrence Frank still have a coaching job in NJ? (NY Post)
A white guy leads a marathon, an announcer tries to jokingly pass off a question about it, and what follows is 10 seconds of silence. (Fan IQ)
Awesome rant from a website that probably deserves a look-see – Angryjournalist.com. (Gawker)
Isiah Thomas told reporters Starbury would be at the game last night. Then, Starbury didn’t show. Why are we still paying attention to this dysfunctional mess? (NYDN)

Sorry it’s late, folks … not quite over the illness, hopefully today
March 4th, 2008 at 8:30 AM
For being sick you are in fine form. 3 really really GREAT pics of sexy women. I like. and yes…the gas prices do concern me..but somehow TBL helps me move on.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:30 AM
Who is that girl?
March 4th, 2008 at 8:30 AM
Keep pluggin’ away, TBL, as we are a ruthless bunch that demands attention, sort of like your three year old nephew during a weekend visit.
Wilbon and Kornheiser debated the Federer thing last night. Most salient point: Once tennis players start to slip, there is no rebound back to greatness.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:34 AM
Kristin Cavallari
March 4th, 2008 at 8:35 AM
Glass Yard Dog, Andre Agassi and Jennifer Capriatti couldn’t disagree more…..
March 4th, 2008 at 8:37 AM
Damn, I was looking at that pic from my phone, and I could swear it wasn’t her. Mouth looks a little weird in that pic, compared to most of hers.
TBL: Check out Jessica Hughbanks, as far as potential hottest reality TV girl. Was on last year’s Big Brother.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:37 AM
Given the number of lost fans herein (including TBL), I thought I’d link this piece. Kind of an interesting theory on the Oceanic 8/6.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:38 AM
And i find amazing that someone is saying Federer is slipping just because he lost a Semifinal game agains Novak Djokovic and now lost in the 1st round against Andy Murray. These are good players (Novak will be number 1 in the future) so i don’t see why can anybody says this? Even more, if you can remember that last year he lost to Juan Ignacio Chela in 3 straight tournaments and everyone started to say the same thing.
What happened? He reached the Roland Garros final and won Wimbledon and th US Open. If this is starting to slip….
March 4th, 2008 at 8:39 AM
agree on her being one of the hottest reality broads ever…if my memory serves me right there was some nice talent on the 1st season of the apprentice
March 4th, 2008 at 8:43 AM
I’m unable to play the video here at work, but I was hoping someone could fill me in on what the marathon announcer said that brought ten seconds of silence. What can you say about a white marathoner, or a white guy in general, that could cost your job?”
March 4th, 2008 at 8:46 AM
these ladies fro the apprentice were so nice
photo shoot from maxim

March 4th, 2008 at 8:46 AM
Is it 4:20 – he basically said the ethiopians and kenyans must be surprised to see a white guy in front of them.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:46 AM
Roethlishotdog, nice theory in the link, but still that doesn’t explain why Hurley can see Charlie…
I’m still hoping to see Hurley waking up in the mental instituition and someone saying that was just his mind playing tricks, like in a movie with John Cusack that i can’t remember the name…
March 4th, 2008 at 8:47 AM
Yeah, Omarosa helped me sleep many a night. Good call mmonast.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:47 AM
@Roethlishotdog: That was a great link dude.
I agree that OTL is still one of the better ESPN productions.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:48 AM
As with Tiger, if Federer loses or even wins in a less than convincing manner, then people say he’s starting to lose it and come back to the field.
Was Jessica the chick with the blonde with the whiny voice? God damn she could rock a bikini. That nails on a chalkboard voice made me want to bang her even harder.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:51 AM
This oil/gas “crisis” has me completely worried. Its not neccesarily the present prices but the fact that there is no resolution/relief in sight. And not too mention it completely boggles my mind when our esteemed sitting President says, “$4.00 a gallon? Who says gas will be $4.00 a gallon anytime soon?” http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/02/27/business/26gasweb.php Well, these fine folks do Mr. President.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:51 AM
Perhaps you could ravish her with a dirty sanchez?
(Points finger to mouth, a la Dr Evil)
March 4th, 2008 at 8:51 AM
Kate Hudson has a nice ass, but no breasts
March 4th, 2008 at 8:56 AM
gonzo omarosa filled my head with many violent thoughts…but there was some nice tail in there
March 4th, 2008 at 8:56 AM
@Dirty: No. The other one with the southern twang and girl-next-door hotness.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:56 AM
TBL, maybe you’re pregnant?
March 4th, 2008 at 8:59 AM
Federer’s play will get much better once he stops making those commercials with Tiger and Henry. He’s enjoying the crazy life as a razor spokesman way too much.
March 4th, 2008 at 8:59 AM
that wendys shooting was terrible. the guy was a father of 5 that got shot at point blank range. just strolling in to get a frosty and get shot up. only an hour away from me as well. crazy world we live in
March 4th, 2008 at 9:00 AM
I am worried about the dollar, yet the Fed is going to cut interest rates again. How about we keep rates where they are and deal with a little economic contraction, rather than piss away the dollar. I’m fine with stagnant growth, but I’m not fine with runaway inflation.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:01 AM
A few months back a Moe’s I frequent was shot up that left 2 people dead. I opened the door for the shooter. Surreal experience that I hope no one ever has to go thru.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:02 AM
TBL, maybe you’re pregnant?
if not that, then maybe i’m just dying. tough one – would i rather be alive and pregnant, or dying? damn.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:05 AM
Nick – We’re talking about the same girl (hooked up with Eric, from Kansas, etc). Apparently there most have been more than one girl with a whiny voice on that show.
http://www.cbs.com/primetime/bigbrother8/guests/jessica_main.php
March 4th, 2008 at 9:06 AM
TBL: the barrel prices make me sick. One reason – I drive a Tahoe 60 miles a day, so needless to say, $4/gallon gas prices will not be good for me.
Secondly, why aren’t Hill/Bam/Mac talking about this? It’s unreal that the oil execs take home billions of dollars in bonuses and salary. I am voting for Hill as of right now if she gets the nom, but if Bam had a serious plan on how to fix or help with the oil crisis, I’d seriously consider switching. Prices on everything are going through the roof.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:07 AM
@coop: Bernanke’s expertise (including a couple of books and a doctoral thesis) centers on the prevention of deflation. That is his supreme goal with the latest cuts. Inflation sucks, but it’s better than deflation.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:08 AM
@Dirty: Oh yeah that’s her. I thought you meant Daniele, who got 2nd. Daniele was so annoying.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:10 AM
That Outside the Lines article was tremendous. Indeed it is the last show on the WWL with any credibility left. And Steve Phillips is an asshole! The guy doesnt deserve his job…
March 4th, 2008 at 9:10 AM
@ tbl- i expressed on here the other day that i paid $ 3.60 a gallon for gas last week. it has stayed at that steady price for close to a week now, but rumor is in my area it will be close to $4 by Memorial Day
March 4th, 2008 at 9:11 AM
I pay about 250 a month at the pump (Nissan Xterra) and these prices are killing me. If I didn’t have this car paid off, I would seriously think about getting an Accord or Camry.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:14 AM
Gas is still at around $3.20 in Atlanta–I thought that was high, but judging from what you guys are saying, that’s a relative bargain.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:19 AM
Didn’t realize this was the place to bitch about oil prices but I will…it’s fucking ridiculous and you know who is to blame…US..as in the USA…our government allowed for the increase in industrialization all over the world which provided a greater need for oil…now we are complaining because our individual consumption of oil is tremendous and we are buying the products that use all of the oil form overseas. Not to mention the a third of our oil is controlled by people that are at best a casual ally and at worst our enemy…oil companies being single minded have squash every oil saving machine and mechanism developed in the last 40 years and now is behind on developing oil alternatives. If the Government would have stepped in 20 years ago when this problem was starting to rear its ugly head we would be in a better position that we are right now. This is not a political problem…this was a leadership problem across the board. As for our decrease against the Euro…it was inevitable..only because of the pooling of Economy’s across Europe. What these countries have started doing is producing their own product and bringing back industry to their countries. Part of my job is negotiating with a German manufacturer…I cut a deal that has us buying product at 1.4 times (its was 1.2 last year and 1.1 the year before) the dollar…when I made it my bosses weren’t pleased..Friday my boss came in and thanked me because the Euro was up to 1.52 times over the dollar and it is only going to get worse. This country needs to bring back industry and create its own product…Toyota is the one car manufacturer that is developing more jobs in the US but it is money that eventually goes to Japans coffers…the only industry we keep in house is Defense…and while important…there is always going to be a stockpile and slow down in those industries….ahhhhhhhhhh enough enough..
March 4th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
Nick, I wasn’t sure about Bernanke when he was hired, and I like him less and less. I like what the Treasury Secretary said last week:
Proposals for a taxpayer-funded government intervention in the U.S. housing market would essentially reward people for taking excessive risks, U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said on Monday.
“Most of the proposals I’ve seen would do more harm than good — bailing out investors, lenders or speculators who, instead of getting a free pass, should be accountable for the risks they took,”
March 4th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
ESPN is defending a Michigan coach? Well, I never!
March 4th, 2008 at 9:21 AM
Obama’s plan is to create hope and inspire the oil companies to lower prices.
Actually, there just isn’t much to do until the dollar gains strength.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:22 AM
The station by my house had gas for 2.98 yesterday morning, when I came back home, 3.29. How does the price for anything go up .31 in 8 hours?
Very assuring that our leaders dont have a freaking clue what is going on. When do you think was the last time Dubya, Hillary, Barry or McCain went and filled up?
March 4th, 2008 at 9:22 AM
How dare those bastards strive for a higher quality of life!! F’ing foreigners!
Seriously, Roman?
March 4th, 2008 at 9:25 AM
Hey irish, the wifey and I might be moving down your way in a couple of months. We find out in 2 weeks if we move to Jacksonville, Nashville, or Charlotte. Any idea about the housing market in Jacksonville?
March 4th, 2008 at 9:28 AM
hey mizerle06, Jacksonville is 5 hours north of me. i live about 45 mins south of tampa towards the gulf. i have heard nothing but good things about the real estate market in Jacksonville. take a look at this link with your family when you get a chance. best of luck to you

March 4th, 2008 at 9:30 AM
This just in: Jay Glazer is reporting that Favre is hanging it up.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:32 AM
I know/could care less about the NBA, but I have 2 questions. First, how in the hell does Isiah Thomas still have a job? And second, how in the hell does Marberry make $180,000 a game?
March 4th, 2008 at 9:33 AM
I appreciate the link. Of the three possibilities, we’re hoping for J-ville.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:33 AM
I don’t understand all of the factors going into the dollar/oil thing. But as I said before, I can’t understand how supply is up, demand is down, and yet these scumbags keep sending the prices for a barrel up and up and up because OPEC “might” cut production, or there “might” be instability in Iran or Venezuela, or whatever.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:35 AM
@jgp: Supply is not up. We’re running out of oil.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:36 AM
The problem with the oil prizes is that the OPEC decides the prices. If they say they have to cut production (without any reason to do that) the prizes will go up, they will gain more money from any barrel and continue to have a lot of petroleum. Until one country decides to leave the OPEC, then you will break the monopoly and have a cut in prizes.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:38 AM
Nick, I understand that oil is running out, but there was a story last week saying that there was more “available” oil, or something like that.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:38 AM
Nick, I have no problem with people in the world looking for a better life…the point is that we have given up our own industrialization because we can buy those items cheaper and import them…it is catching up…as the cost of living goes up in those countries, their prices go up and its no longer cheaper and instead of developing the industry in this country we will go to the next place (Indonesia, Vietnam) and do the same thing…in the process we will not only wreck our economy but theirs…but remember something…this is about me..not about them…and my quality of life…and because our government let industry leave this country for other countries and the demand for oil increased in this country and the world in the process it is making it harder to live a comfortable life and business in this country has not found it to be profitable yet to really work hard at developing alternatives to oil so we will be paying out the nose for gas and my home fuel costs keep going up and I have to drive to my job to pay for the oil and keep my house warm for my wife and kid…
March 4th, 2008 at 9:39 AM
It takes half an hour to raise prices 30 cents a gallon, but it takes 3 months of stability and increased production for prices to decrease 30 cents a gallon.
Utility and energy prices are the biggest scams going. Utility prices have doubled here in Maryland in the past few years, so if I get a utility bill under $300 I feel like I’ve won the lottery. But utility companies/oil companies/lobbyists/politicians all know that we can’t ride bikes to work or freeze our ass off at home, so we’ll pay it.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:43 AM
@Dirty: Utilities are my deal. That’s what I cover for a living. Electric prices have to go up, or power companies won’t feel compelled to build new plants, and since we as a nation are running short of capacity, that needs to happen.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:43 AM
WFAN confirmed the Farve retirement thing (Boomer Esiason is the morning host)
March 4th, 2008 at 9:45 AM
ESPN Radio just confirmed Favre’s retirement.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:45 AM
Dirty, I hear you on the utility prices. This past fall I read an article in the state paper about how natural gas stockpiles were at an all time high and they were reducing the ammount of drilling, yet not a week later I got my gas (heating) bill and it was telling me how stockpiles were low and I was to expect a 10% rise in my bill this winter. Now I didn’t major in business in school, but that seams a little odd…
March 4th, 2008 at 9:45 AM
One of my favorites from Big Brother seasons gone by.
NSFW pictures here.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:45 AM
@dirty- i couldnt agree with you more on that statement about the Utiliy companies. FPL, floridas power company, uses solar power. it is supposed to be saving people money down here. Down in Miami, some FPL worker was doing some routine check on the nuclear plant and turned off the wrong switch.($12 doesnt do that well) so half the state of Florida was without power for almost 16 hours because of that.
March 4th, 2008 at 9:55 AM
You guys are totally missing out on the Adriana Lima picture that is in the roundup, forget Kate Hudson and her non existant breasts, it’s Lima time!
March 4th, 2008 at 10:17 AM
But it’s great for your sex life.
March 4th, 2008 at 10:22 AM
nice call out by the ESPN article for the Michigan coach. Wilbon said on PTI that he should be fired!?! are you kidding me?
I loved it. more coaches should be able to call out the horrible officiating in college basketball. the Big Ten officials are HORRIBLE.
March 4th, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Wilbon really said that? I am not used to Wilbon saying idiotic things.
March 4th, 2008 at 10:49 AM
One of the current Big Brother chicks was in Penthouse…in 1983. The pics are very sasquatch-y.
March 4th, 2008 at 10:53 AM
I caught some of Big Brother late night on Showtime last week. When did that show become a softcore porno? I was seeing boobies left and right.
March 4th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Thanks for not using the Kate Hudson pic.
Not attractive.
March 4th, 2008 at 11:58 AM
yeah, Wilbon said it. I was sticking up for the guy to the wife and then Wilbon sabotaged me.
