The Wire Finale
Television March 9th. 2008, 7:59pm It’s a bittersweet night folks.
We’re just a few short minutes away from the series finale of The Wire. It’s an episode I can’t wait to see, but never want to come. We’re going to have to say goodbye to some of the greatest characters that we’ve ever had the honor to watch. I’m so excited to see what happens, but I know I’ll be a broken man when the credits roll for the final time.
I know I’ll be blown away, but I also realize I will most likely be left in tears. Yeah, The Wire has a history of hurting the ones that love it. It was such an emotional ride that you would almost want to stop watching if it wasn’t just so damn good.
So for now – goodbye to The Wire. One of the greatest television shows ever made. It’s a sad night. I hope it never ends.

I suppose it would have too Hollywood-esque to have Michael start whistling the Farmer in the Dell?
Fuck Dookie by the way

That bar scene with McNulty on the pool table was great.
March 9th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
@ButtersBC: Or just have the kids running away yelling “Michael coming!” while he casually strolls through the hood.
If Dookie’s story makes you sad, just remember Bubble ending up alright in the end, didn’t he?
Nice touch have Sidnor take McNulty’s place at the end (speaking to Judge Phelan).

If Snotboogie always stole the money, why’d you let him play?
You got to, this is America, man.

that montage(sp?) at the end was intense. the pool scene was great too.

Fuck that Dukie made me weep, i am a man and i can admit that
who is runnin the show Slim Charles as Avon/Marlo or Michael as Omar? Seems like we could have a WIRE FREAKIN MOVIE if they want.
Man i am sad its over

Watching Maury Levy squirming in his chair while Pearlman played that tape damn near gave me an erection.
March 9th, 2008 at 11:34 PM
I was dying when Sidnor’s last words to the judge were “Leave my name out of this”…the circle is now complete
It really was a perfect finale though…all along you knew that Simon was trying to get the point across that all this shit was going to just stay the same while showing signs of how certain ills could be rectified but aren’t

I thought Herc was gonna get got, but then Levy congratulted him on his work.

Couldn’t make a more satisfying conclusion. Showing that life truly continues on despite all the good that was done taking some of these thugs off the streets is the only way to go. They’ll never make a show that depicts the social and economic dysfunction of local politics quite as accurate as this show ever did. Thanks a lot you crazy bastard David Simon for allowing us into the truth behind the “speak” of the high almighty spinsters of this world.

well said narrator

Pretty thorough David Simon Q&A.

Fuck Templeton! Was Kenard being arrested for Omar’s murder? I can’t believe they made Valchek commissioner, I guess until Carver is ready to take over. What the fuck is Jimmy going to do if he can’t be police?
March 10th, 2008 at 8:37 AM
McNulty needs to go the Shaft route and become a PI with his own spinoff…I’d watch that show
I don’t think they got Kenard on Omar’s hit…they were just showing how things are just that same as they’ve always been with the cops arresting corner boys to juke the stats without making a real play at the kingpins
March 10th, 2008 at 10:00 AM
I thought it was pretty kickass. I loved the montage at the end. GONNA NEED A MONTAGE. OOOH IT TAKES A MONTAGE.
March 10th, 2008 at 10:38 AM
They def got Kenard on Omar…Michael was tellin his corner in last weeks episode that police had been at Kenard’s house non stop since Omar went down.
March 10th, 2008 at 10:53 AM
I agree that they got Kenard for Omar’s death….also like how Michael turned into the new Omar at the end of the show…the only downside was the montage ending, should have went a Sopranos route leaving all of us with questions about what really happened, makes for better commentary…whats up with Marlo finally proving he isn’t a bitch, I would have liked to see him get popped, nothin beats Slim taking out Chees though

The Cheese stands alone

So well done throughout, definitely going to miss it.
I liked that fat Jay, who rode McNulty’s ass nonstop, actually owned up to him being a great detective during that bar scene.

Apparently David Simon dropped a bomb at a USC presentation a week ago. Here’s an excerpt:
“Mr. Simon,†I said, “my peer and I have a question we’ve discussed endlessly, and if I don’t ask you this now, I’ll never forgive myself. Are Randy Wagstaff and Cheese Wagstaff related?â€
“I’ll tell you,†he said. “Randy is actually Cheese’s son.€
What the fuck?!?!
“You just blew my mind,†I said, on the brink of puking, or passing out. “Why did you decide not to include that in the storyline?â€
“Well, we talked about it, but there were only ten episodes this season… and we just felt that by not saying it, it fleshed out the skeleton of the story a little more,†he said.
The rest of the discussion was a blur. I had no other questions I could possibly ask. There were no other statements he could possibly make.
Let’s be clear here…
Cheese Wagstaff = a fucking father.
Randy Wagstaff = fucked for life.
“Now Cheese must die,†Matt said after the lecture. “He sold out Prop Joe and he’s responsible for Randy. Plus he hasn’t released a good album since Tical, so…â€

“Plus he hasn’t released a good album since Tical, so…”
Perfect.
March 10th, 2008 at 1:21 PM
“He hasn’t released a good album since Tical” for the win.
Great, great episode for a great show.
I loved the contrast at the end. Bubbles sitting at his sister’s table, clean and sober. Dukie shooting up, lost to the world. Poor Alma stuck in a crap post while that lying SOB goes to collect his award. Marlo, unable to adapt to the waters of the high-end business world and far more comfortable back on the streets. McNulty out and “dead” but so many other cops continuing the never-ending fight.
And Michael somewhere walking the streets, hooded with a shotgun hidden in his coat, probably whistling a little tune to himself.

i like how kima’s like, he guys, i totally fucked you both. and mcnutty and lester are like, ah kima, you always did know best. ha ha ha. seriously?
i liked it tho. institutions crush the humanity out of all people. now we need a spin off for when gus leaves the paper to go write a hit cop drama for hbo with his friend, the former inner city teacher mr presbo.

I really can’t think of anything I would have done differently. I knew we could trust Simon to not fuck it up by either getting too cute (see Sopranos, The) or trying to paint some “the good guys make it work in the end, happily ever after” shit. And he delivered.
