A Weekend With Gus Is A Good Weekend Indeed
College Basketball, Video March 19th. 2008, 3:12pmDon’t know if you read this anywhere, but there’s some sort of basketball tournament starting tomorrow. Aside from the inherent awesomeness of this being the one of the few times of the year where its socially acceptable to be in a bar, getting messy during work hours, most everyone is looking forward to hearing Gus Johnson scream about basketball.
Here’s a classic video from the end of “The Crying Game.” (SFW)
Of course this was a special moment because we got to see Adam Morrison cry. There’s just something special about somebody with a mustache that wispy crying. At least he looks better nowadays…
…OK. So that official 20-foot poster I saw in Bobcats Arena last weekend doesn’t exactly indicate that Morrison has found a stylist.
Anyway, back to Gus. Thankfully, CBS has had the foresight to send him to Denver which hosts part of the South (Huh?) bracket. (Seriously, did I read that wrong? Somebody get me a map.) In Denver he will get to call games that will surely be shown to the majority of Americans. Via Awful Announcing:
(12) Temple (21-12) vs (5) Michigan State (25-8) 12:20 PM
(13) Oral Roberts (24-8) vs (4) Pittsburgh (26-9) 3:00 PM
(13) Winthrop (22-11) vs (4) Washington State (24-8) 7:20 PM
(12) George Mason (23-10) vs (5) Notre Dame (24-7) 9:50 PM
Personally, I’m just a little disappointed that CBS separated Gus Johnson and Ian Eagle. The energy level would have been out of this world.

Has there ever been a bigger void in announcers? Ian sitting next to Dr. Jack? Ian looks like a teen getting ready for a date!

Not the first time Morrison has had a pair of balls that close to his chin.
March 19th, 2008 at 3:18 PM
@wildcat – those are Matt Carrol’s balls
March 19th, 2008 at 3:19 PM
Psst, Adam.
You’re balls are showing.

March 19th, 2008 at 3:24 PM

Gus calling four potential, legitimate upset option (ESPECIALLY MASON) is no damn coincidence. Good job, CBS.

@CHJ – Now, we just need to see those games….
March 19th, 2008 at 3:31 PM
@gozo. Maybe I will. I’m in yuma “america’s taint” and it’s 3 hours back to phoenix. If I’m able to leave in the next 15, I won’t have to rely on the autodrafter.

Hef…just take the 3:10 to Yuma…HI-YO.

March 19th, 2008 at 3:45 PM
haha good one Spencer. Hopefully Hef is gone by now. Go West young man!
March 19th, 2008 at 3:57 PM
Ted…We will watch 8 seconds of Duke Belmont…they have to appeal to that front running NY Duke contingent (My Wife)…Yuck…we have no fucking teams in the Tourney not even a stretch like Cuse…give us the best games and be done with it. I mean the best game we have on paper is Nova/Clemson and that thing starts at 9:40 on Friday…
March 19th, 2008 at 4:08 PM
@gonzo. If I go west, I’ll end up in san diego. Phoenix is east.

The way to do this is to hook up the computer to the TV and watch the CBS MMOD on your TV, assuming the desired game isn’t the game in your market.
March 19th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Hef, I hope you have a private Jet. You know the draft starts at * Eastern time, right?
March 19th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
make that 8 EDT
March 19th, 2008 at 4:17 PM
We have 338 pool entries at 3:15 MST.
Go, Hef, Go!
March 19th, 2008 at 4:17 PM
RWH, normally we get Duke for the first whole first half and 8-10 minutes of the second before they switch off unless Duke is up 30 to start the second I will be watching USC K-State on the internet without the HD goodness. Plus the Friday UNC game is awful as well.
Interesting no stories on the Catholic schools playing on Good Friday and Easter, you would think they would have some angle on it out there.

A stickler for preparation, Martelli is happy to have four days to prepare for the Sooners, and he sees an advantage in playing them on Good Friday.
“It’s Good Friday, and we’re a Catholic school,” he said. “So that should be a good thing.”

nothing says college basketball victory like celebrating the day Jesus was crucified.
March 19th, 2008 at 4:26 PM
My garmin saya I’ll be home at 8:20 EDT. Unless I can average 85 for large stretches.

Your fixation with Gus J. is now officially juvenile. This site needs to mature. Come on, boys……
