When I watch teams play, I hardly notice assists. I do notice, good passes. Many of which, never correlate to assists. That's why the statistic is bogus. It doesn't take into consideration what coaches would consider "good passes".. all it does is award a player who passed to a player who happened to make a shot. Considering there are so many variables involved in this (like, did a player get fouled... did the player miss.. did the player charge or commit a turnover?) - I'd say, the assist is a relatively useless stat when attempting to evaluate say, who's a good point guard. He had a great night (average for him). To say he had a "Kobe game" is ridiculous, since Kobe got studs on his team he's been trying to have "LeBron games" all year and still can't seem to do so as effectively/efficiently as LeBron.The reason LeBron had a great game last night was his efficiency and the fact that he allowed the rest of the team to play 4 on 3 against the Pistons all night long, and he was tough against Tay when isolated. It's not like LeBron pulled a game 5 or did what he's been doing the last 2 months. He just took what the defense gave the Cavs. Last night Kobe would've gone 12-35 w/ 5 turnovers and Detroit would've kicked his ass w/ the same guys LeBron won with (Kobe needs shaq/bynum/gasol).
