Top Shelf: The 12-minute Hat Trick
NHL March 20th. 2008, 9:05am
Lee Diekemper recaps the night in the NHL.
San Jose 4, Minnesota 3 (SO): Old man Jeremy Roenick crawled out of his rocking chair and scored the game-winner in the shootout. The Sharks couldn’t make up any ground on the Wings because Detroit won as well. But the Sharks did clinch a playoff berth.
Anaheim 2, Dallas 1: Todd Bertuzzi’s power-play goal with 27 seconds left was the difference as the Chris Pronger-less Ducks rallied to victory. The Stars have lost six of seven this month.
New York Rangers 2, New Jersey 1 (SO): Not even Marty Brodeur can slow down the hot Rangers, who won on the road, if you call Newark a road game. It’s hard to call an event a road game when players of the visiting team can drive their own cars home. Nigel Dawes got the game-winner in the shootout. The Rangers are now 6-0 this season against the Devils.
Buffalo 7, Tampa Bay 4: Down 4-1 in the third, the Sabres blew the Lightning out of the HSBC Arena scoring six unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes. Thomas Vanek had a hat trick… in the final 12 minutes!
Carolina 5, Atlanta 3: The Southeast Division-leading Canes got their eighth win in their last 10 games. The Canes, battling for attention on Tobacco Road during March Madness, are doing a good job against their division opponents with a 16-8-1 record. Do the Threshers reward incompetence?

The biggest story out of MN today is that Kurtis Foster broke his leg and will be out for the season.

Not only was the hat trick in the final 12, but it happened in an 8-minute span.

If the Rangers had taken care of business in FLA last weekend they would be in first place right now, I thought the Devils were going to hold on last night but Drury comes through in the last five minutes, the man has a knack for the dramatic goal.

I’ve got a great idea. You know those “Eight Minute Abs” videos? I can do you one better: SEVEN MINUTE ABS.
March 20th, 2008 at 9:32 AM
Yeah, but then it’ll just be a matter of time before someone comes out with “Six Minute Abs.”

No…not six, I said seven. No one’s coming up with six. Who works out is six minutes. You won’t even get your heart going, not even a mouse on a wheel. Sevens the key number here. Think about it. Seven doors. Seven-Eleven. Seven. Seven little chipmunks twirling on a branch, eatin’ lots of sunflowers on my uncle’s ranch. You know that old children’s tale from the sea. It’s like you’re dreamin’ of gorgonzola when it’s clearly bree time baby. Step into my office…cuz you’re fuckin’ fired!

Nice “There’s Something About Mary” quote, 412. I was thinking the same thing.
And pki, it’s worse that just a leg break. It’s displaced fracture of his femur. If you want to know what that is, just look at this:

@pki: I didn’t see the injury, I tuned into the game in the 3rd, but the Sharks announcers were making it sound like it was pretty gruesome. After that I decided not to seek out any you tube of it.
After the third period and Overtime, and their last game, it’s clear that only the SJ Sharks can make a Wild game interesting. I’m hoping these two meet in the 1st round

Round of applause to 412.
