ESPN Copy Editor Asleep at the Wheel
Baseball, ESPN March 26th. 2008, 11:02am
Scott’s Shots with a bizarre find: Cory Lidle, who you may remember died tragically last year when his airplane crashed into a NYC building, has turned up on the ESPN baseball transactions page. And he’s listed on the Toronto Blue Jays. And he’s just been activated from the 15-day DL. The hell? Doesn’t look like there’s a Cory or a Lidle on the Blue Jays, so is this a simple error, or a sick, deranged joke? What’s next – Texas signs Ken Caminiti to a 10-day contract?

March 26th, 2008 at 11:04 AM
@CRM–Shit. I was about to say the exact same thing.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:05 AM
Even I don’t find that funny. Actually, yeah I do. What was he on the DL with, a dead arm?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:07 AM
Is it okay to comment on this thread? I already made an AIDS joke about Magic Johnson, I don’t think I should press my luck.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:07 AM
Clemens had something to do with this. I just know it.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:09 AM
TBL…174 e-mails…50 are for porn…30 are for Viagra…and 90 are from Gun magazines hoping he will display his weaponry in their next issue

March 26th, 2008 at 11:09 AM

March 26th, 2008 at 11:10 AM
Cory Lidle plays on God’s team now…no not the Yankees.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
I guess playing for the Blue Jays is the Yankees version of hell.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:13 AM
@RWH – God need a middle reliever.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:14 AM

March 26th, 2008 at 11:15 AM
Guess there’s some life left on his fastball after all.
I’m here all week.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Nick P is on fire circa NBA Jam.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
I figured the default text under the Blue Jays would be “Scott Rolen placed on 15-day DL.”
Any word on Thurman Munson’s progress? I’ve been waiting like three years for him to be activated.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:17 AM
You know the saying if you are a lefty..all you need is a pulse to be a major league pitcher…oh wait
March 26th, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Wait… When did Toronto hire David Littlefield as GM?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Aww RWH, please don’t hate on my boys…
March 26th, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Mr. TBL,
It was a bad idea to make a post about this topic, and believe me, I know a thing or two about bad ideas.
- Cory Lidle
March 26th, 2008 at 11:20 AM
What’s a Gaff?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Perhaps Thurman Munson can make an appearance? Complete the airplane crash battery:
Lidle to Munson.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Mr TBL,
I am afraid that the comment in this section are taking a turn for the worst…I know something about that.
Cory Lidle
March 26th, 2008 at 11:22 AM
Nick, you need to pull a Costanza and leave now on a good note.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:23 AM

March 26th, 2008 at 11:24 AM

March 26th, 2008 at 11:26 AM
Is Cory Lidle a member of the Oceanic 6?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
You guys are in rare form today..well done!
March 26th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
While making Cory Lidle jokes 2 years after the fact may be in poor taste..making Cory Lidle jokes in Section 42 at Shea Stadium during the moment of silence 3 hours after the crash happened has cemented me and the four rows around me laughing a special place in hell.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Charles Widmore is a Red Sox fan.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:32 AM
Well it’s not like TBL can ever interview Corey Lidle so all jokes are fair game.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Roman, I couldn’t think any less of you if you murdered someone. damn you met fans!
March 26th, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Gonzo…I appreciate the hatred…but you are from Philly…I thought you guys pooped Champaign bottles when you heard that there was no conceivable way Pat Gillick could bring this guy back.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
popped Champaign…but I do now like the image of you guys shitting Champaign since that the closest you will ever get to celebrating a Championship.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:39 AM
After ESPN posted this, Alec Baldwin demanded to speak to the Blue Jays front office.
Too obscure?
March 26th, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Oh shit, the gloves are off Roman. *removes white glove, slaps your face*
I challenge you to a duel.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:43 AM
This is just good, morbid fun.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Wow……..just……I mean…….wow…

March 26th, 2008 at 11:48 AM
In related news, RollingStone.com is reporting that southern rock is activiating Lynyrd Skynyrd from the DL.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:55 AM
Congratulations Jim. I didn’t want to be the one with a Clemente reference.
Coming up next: Payne Stewart
March 26th, 2008 at 12:02 PM
i love people who “fix” stuff in the comments. it’s what dane cook would do if he left comments on blogs.
anyway, even now, cory lidle could probably be the jays’ no. 3 starter. he’d fly through a building for his teammates. did someone make a dead arm joke already? damn. there’s a big season on the horizon for lidle. he’ll probably crash and burn this season if he doesn’t take off right away.
that is all.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Looks like Lozo is already drunk and blogging today.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:06 PM
Well his curve does break hard to the left and then plumet towards the ground.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:08 PM
Gonzo…I only hope the the NL East preview is not done at 5:15 at night…that would allow for this duel to commence forth with.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Wait… Gonzo wears white gloves?
March 26th, 2008 at 12:44 PM
i love people who are jackasses.
fixed.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Has anyone seen the slingbox commercial in the sidebar??? the slogan is “Don’t watch slingbox while flying a helicopter!” while the driver is watching on his phone and almost flies into a bridge. The conidence is wild.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
You know how we knew A-Rod wasn’t on his plane?
Because A-Rod doesn’t hit anything in October – oooooooooow!
March 26th, 2008 at 2:33 PM
Jay, it’s funny you should mention Payne Stewart because my alma mater is inducting him into our Athletics Dept. Hall of Fame this year with three other people. The press release mentioned that all of the enshrinees would be honored at a dinner hosted by Don Meredith. My first thought was, “Really? Payne Stewart was able to find a flight into DFW on such short notice?”
