Wow, announcing 101 says you never say that for a variety of reasons. Here are 2
1.) you never want to turn off the viewer to another channel
2.) Buffalo Bills down 35-3 vs Houston Oilers, win 41-38

Packer, breathing a sigh of relief with 2:08 left, when Nantz asked him about it:
“You say what you see.”
Nantz: “And that’s why I love ya.”

While I hate Packer, and he definitely violated “Broadcast Rules 101″ (I didn’t buy the textbook), the statement captured the essence of that run. They had jumped out to such a lead and did so with such dominance, you felt that the game was over. I’ve never seen perfection like that..nevermind they let UNC back within 4.
We hate it when announcers are vanilla (See Tirico, Breen, Nance..), but we condemn them when they say something they’re not supposed to. I got 4 called immediately when this happened – which tells you that yes, I have four friends, and yes, that was a powerful statement.

A UNC-rooting friend of mine was trying to figure out who said it so he knew where to send the hate mail. I told him not to worry about, bloggers would be taking note.
Thanks for not letting me down.

As probably the biggest Kansas fan in the universe, let me sum up my feelings (and my exact quote at the time) thusly…
FUCK YOU BILLY PACKER!!

Memphis is a 1-point favorite against Kansas. Just putting this out there:
* CDR dominated because UCLA had no matchup for him sizewise. KU has Brandon Rush, and that will slow CDR considerably.
* Rose is the tough one, but if you watched what Robinson did to Lawson (2-for-8, 9 points, still waiting for the box score to see assts/TOs, but it wasn’t pretty), I think he can do SOME of that to Rose. Not stop Rose, because he’s such a monster … but contain him somewhat
* Dorsey et al didn’t have much to worry about besides Love. But if Dorsey starts on Arthur, fine, what about Jackson and Kaun? They are much better than the scrubby Dozier/Taggart combo.
Too many options for Kansas, and the Memphis offense, after Rose/CDR, is complete garbage.

Oh, and in case anyone is watching the ESPN talking heads talk about how tired KU will be Monday night:
Final 4 minutes
Rose 37
CDR 35
A Anderson 38
Chalmers 31
Rush 32
Jackson 17
Arthur 32
So can we please throw that out the window? Memphis goes 6 deep. If Aldrich shows up against, KU has 8 players.

Packer violated Broadcasting 101, and I think that’s why Nantz initially questioned him on in it…but I don’t blame Packer too much. That was about the most dominating 13 minutes of hoops I’ve ever seen.
For North Carolina to come back within 4 shows how good of a team they were. But Kansas was definitely the better team.
I’m not real impressed with Memphis’ post players. They’re not bad, but pretty inconsistent offensively. I’d maybe play Taggert a bit more cus he can shoot.
Dorsey is pretty inaffective offensively, but I think he really stepped it up on the boards and on defense.
But Douglas-Roberts and Rose are soooo good! That they kind of make up for the ineffectiveness of Dozier and Dorsey. Antonio Anderson isn’t bad either.
Memphis is fun to watch. I hope they win, but also am hoping for a close game.

TBL, does Kobe play for Memphis? It’s rare to see you spewing hatred for something un-Kobe related!
Ok I’m joking I’m joking, but come on TBL, you’re acting like Kansas has played this well all along. Memphis is way, way, way better than Davidson and Kansas struggled with their guards (Curry shot a poor percentage, but got a number of good looks in that game).
Intriguing game, gonna enjoy watching the guards go at it!

So TBL is on KU. I said on Friday, KU over Memphis!

As happy as I was over UNC losing but it would have been fun to see Billy Packer’s glum face photoshopped into this picture: http://rosenblumtv.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/dewey_defeats_truman.jpg

I didn’t call a winner for either game but I did predict that Packer would call the KU-UNC game wearing Bill Self’s toupee.
I was sadly wrong.

Umm TBL you also might want top include
1 TegWar, B. Leary
2 Client #78, C. Rammel
2 suprjackr, J. Jacobs
4 Bizarro Quinn, J. Howard
5 Client 9’s Bracket, S. Mierau
6 Tricky/Tricky, V. Ramos
Who predicted the wins three weeks ago, alas, I had Kansas v. UCLA and will not be winning this pool.
