UFC 83: Heck And Yes
NBA, UFC April 19th. 2008, 9:09pm
Is this the best weekend of the year for sports? Baseball season is in full swing; We get Saturday and Sunday Quadruple-Headers for the first round of the NBA Playoffs; And finally we get the rematch title fight of Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra. Sure the first weekend of March Madness is great, but we’ve got professional ballers – base and basket – and a championship bout in the UFC. I’m trembling I’m so excited.
That man to your right is the UFC’s welterweight (170) champion, Matt “The Terror” Serra and his not so shabby wife. A lot of people say Serra is going to get destroyed tonight – including the man of a thousand posts, MDS – but I think Serra can and will defend his title. Just my 2 pennies, but there it is. Also, Travis Lutter is going to murder Rich Franklin. Dude is done.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some people over and I need to drink beer, watch basketball and then UFC 83. Back tomorrow morning/afternoon/hungover to continue with the fun. I swear I’ll even have a legit b-ball post. It’ll be just like a real sports blog and everything.
The main card via the always excellent, MMAjunkie.com:
MAIN CARD
- Champ Matt Serra vs. Georges St. Pierre (title-unification bout)
- Rich Franklin vs. Travis Lutter
- Nate Quarry vs. Kalib Starnes
- Michael Bisping vs. Charles McCarthy
- Marc Bocek vs. Mac Danzig
Of the undercard fights, I see Joe Doerksen vs. Jason MacDonald finding its way to my pay-per-viewing. Later ladies.

You going to do a recap tonight or is it PBR time CRM?

Don’t forget Bernard Hopkins fights tonight on HBO.

We’ll recap it tomorrow…UFC nights are usually blurry by the Main Event.

As usual, I recommend MMAjunkie (link upstairs) if you want live updates.

I’d say order the PPV, or stream it free online. I have to agree with CRM on his picks. Serra has GSP’s number. Doesn’t matter if Franklin wins or loses because he will never beat Silva.
With that being said, I am really anxious to see how Franklin does in the fight. He has dealt with a lot of stuff in the last couple of months and that is probably been affecting his training. And I don’t think that this is a walk in the park for him either because Lutter is a bjj black belt just like Anderson Silva and he did surprise a lot of people with how well he did when he fought Silva and that was after he lost all that weight. I think the most interesting thing about this fight is lets say Hendo beats Silva(which I think is very possible), does Franklin get a title shot? I just really hope that he doesn’t overlook Lutter and turn this into a GSP/Serra type of deal.

GSP by complete humiliation.
Rich has lost his fastball.
I will be watching the replay at 1am online!

CRM- Aren’t you a couple hours away from Montreal? If so, no excuse why you did not go to watch these fights.

Dude, Could you have been anymore wrong? Lutter murder Franklin? Wow, Could Lutter have been any less prepared? Did he do any cardio at all? He was gassed after three minutes. Franklin MURDERED him in the 2nd. Jeez. UFC should not let Lutter have a televised undercard until he can prove he’s worth it, and serious about fighting.
GSP was awesome.

The idea that this is the best weekend of sports for the year made me laugh so hard I hurt my ribs. It’s not even the best weekend in April. Heck, it’s not even the 2nd best weekend in April.

Good calls on Serra and Lutter, those fights were comical.
