looks like Blair Waldorf put some weight on. she’s got some child bearing hips!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 3:21 PM
Normally I’d ask why a debate over whether a Yankees pitcher should be in the starting rotation is worthy of the front-page banner headline on ESPN.com, but then somebody would accuse me of being anti-New York.
But no, we don’t give two shits about Joba in Mid-America.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:21 PM
If disarray is deciding what to do with the best pitching prospect in the game to make sure he gets his 150 innings I’ll take it
April 21st, 2008 at 3:23 PM
I paid $ 3.60 this morning for regular gas. The premium brand was $3.80.
i say over $ 4.00 by Memorial day
April 21st, 2008 at 3:24 PM
But 10 million New Yorkers do. Ergo, it’s news.
Deal with it, Jay!
April 21st, 2008 at 3:25 PM
I envision Gossip Girl as a show you could watch if forced to by a girlfriend and just view the talent.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:28 PM
who is the chick on the left?
April 21st, 2008 at 3:29 PM
This Joba thing is boring me already. I say we let the guy go out there, get rocked a few innings and then put him back where he was.
The Twins had Santana as a reliever for 2 years before he broke the starting rotation. When he finally did get in there, they limited his innings every outing. If the Yankees are smart, they would do the same.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:29 PM
So last week here in New York it was “Willie must go” and “Santana blows,” this week the sky is falling on the Bronx.
God I love this place.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:31 PM
Santana always starts out slow. New Yorkers better learn to have some patience.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:33 PM
Ha! That’s like saying NYers better learn that the world does not revolve around their city.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:35 PM
Blake Lively. if there was a reason to watch the show, she’s it.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:35 PM
The girl on the left looks like Hillary Muff.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:36 PM
@irish:
her name is blake lively. she’s got some great assets.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:36 PM
thanks NickSixers. She is hot
April 21st, 2008 at 3:38 PM
I would do anything to Blake Lively she wanted me to. Oh and Jay, I’m sure the entire state of Nebraska begs to differ on your no one in Mid-America cares about what happens with Joba.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:38 PM
Ben, you’re right
Its like a pg-13 skinnemax movie, not the best but it works as a ‘take one for the team’ show when your woman is tired of sports or whatever you want to watch.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:38 PM
Good read about Obama’s secret weapon.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:41 PM
Take the under… It’s already there in places here in the Bay area.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:41 PM
I really hope Stephen A. Smith still does the NBA draft this year. Otherwise we will not see another Stephen A. Smith heckling video.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:44 PM
If I have to hear for months on end about who will coach some college football team and basketball team in Mid-america…then you can hear about whether the most popular franchise in baseball (I just vomited in my mouth a little) is having in fighting about what to do with its young pitcher…and Jay..I will say it you are blatently anti-NY or the way the media portrays it…
April 21st, 2008 at 3:45 PM
It’s about $3.70 for regular where I live just north of DC. I haven’t been down to Georgetown in a while, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s already $4.00 there.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:46 PM
@TBL- That is Goodells wife in the Top Cock video. She is hot
April 21st, 2008 at 3:47 PM
It’s $3.69 for regular here. i unfortunately need the Premium which is usually about $0.20 more expensive because i’m an idiot and like nice cars.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:48 PM
The Blake girl looks a lot different than she did in Accepted. She was insane in that movie.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:49 PM
Roman, those hiring stories happen every year but to different teams. NY stuff is overblown. For example:
Nelson Figueroa pitching for the Mets. the guy’s been in the league for 8 years. So he gives his family 1,000 tickets to see him pitch 2 games, and we’re looking at the next Juan Marichal. I’m not even gonna shorten this… BIG FUCKIN DEAL. So what if he’s from Coney Island? This is only newsworthy to Nelson Figueora and his family. Roman, did you give a shit that he’s from NY and pithing for your team? Yeah it’s a cute story. But come on.
/off soapbox.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:51 PM
One benefit of living in a city with plentful amounts of cabs and public transportation – gas prices don’t really affect me. I have no idea what the price is here in Chicago as I haven’t owned a car in 4 years.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:51 PM
Gas is only $81 a month here in NYC
/metro card’d
April 21st, 2008 at 3:51 PM
@SS: i would say that is a great display of the assets i was talking about. it makes sense because she’s supposed to play someone in HS on the show and college in Accepted.
Irish: Roger Goodell’s wife?
April 21st, 2008 at 3:53 PM
you don’t care about Joba from Nebraska in middle america. wow
April 21st, 2008 at 3:53 PM
Same here, Sportsgal. No car. $81 metro card + cabs on the weekends. No gas, no car maintenance repairs, no car insurance.
Then again, I have to take the subway every day …
April 21st, 2008 at 3:53 PM
@benji- yes sir
April 21st, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Eventually they’re going to pass those costs through – especially cabs.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:55 PM
Gonzo…Please…Its a heartwarming story (as are all local boy comes home makes good) it will go away…we have heard that story before…when he gets his doors blown off by the Cubs the dream is over…but Every AI story for 8 years was’t overblown? Every Kobe story isn’t overblown? LeBron? Roy WIlliams? Tony Romo? The fact is there are tons of these stories…but people have their radar set to what they like and don’t like…I mean until the Mets collapsed last year they barely led of SPortscenter, The only thing people talked about with the Giants was Eli and his sucking..but if Eli was playing on the moon thats a story he is a Manning…I am sick of hearing it…Everyone talks about NY and its attittude and its center of the Universe but all I hear form everyone else is we suck and were are arrogant and we are rude and blah blah blah blah blah…Everyone I hear it from says it in a mean condesending way…to me thats rude and arrogant. If Nelso Figeroua did this for the Phillies you would build him a statue next to Rocky and Kyle Kendrick.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:55 PM
@ sportsgal + Pittsburg – you still pay for the higher gas prices in the subway/bus/train tickets. I have a car, live in suburbia and commute to work and I don’t spend $81 a month on gas.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:57 PM
St bear you did not include car payments, insurance and other car related expenses
April 21st, 2008 at 3:57 PM
RWH – short reply…..no. Long reply…..yes, but.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:58 PM
SM, you are correct, but we are talking only about gas prices, not the cost of owning a car.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:58 PM
one more example…if I may…I watched that Football Friday thing on ESPNews and they broke down the NFC East…They led off with 2 minutes on a possible Shockey trade and then spent 20 minutes on the Cowboys and Eagles…5 on Washington and ended with 3 minutes on the Giants…I don’t see the NY bias there?
April 21st, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Who cares about the Giants? It’s not like they’v ever won anything.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:01 PM
Global supply and demand is a bitch.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:02 PM
I hope you didn’t take it personal. I directed my comment towards you, but it wasn’t about you. I agree those players you mentioned have stories that are always overblown. But when players like Joba Chamberlain and Nelson Figueroa get overblown, it’s annoying because they don’t deserve it.
By the way, Nelson did pitch for the Phils and he shit the bed. waiting for the other shoe to drop.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:02 PM
Hey subway-ers, looking down your noses at us ridiculous car-owners:
I can go anywhere I want to, when I want to, and I’m not subjected to subway farts, cramped quarters, and beggars. So take your metrocard and swipe your ass with it.
/Gonzo, you can have the soapbox back now.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:04 PM
Amen Atlanta.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:05 PM
atl, FTW
PWND!!!1111one!!
April 21st, 2008 at 4:06 PM
Living in a suburb + Living within a bike ride/short car ride to work = Infrequent fill-ups + Freedom of car.
I win.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:08 PM
asf doesnt drink or wants to me more like Carmelo
April 21st, 2008 at 4:09 PM
this is baseless and im simply asking a question that i dont know the answer to but…
those who take the subways probably live in the large cities, rent is expensive. i live in the suburbs, rent is cheap. there’s probably no difference in terms of personal finance.
tho i do love clearing out public transportation with an epic fart.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:11 PM
@Mike – you forgot no having to pay for a parking spot, that’s a nice plus as well. I moved close to the lake and street parking is completely non-existant, so I got rid of the car. I save myself $300+ a month in car payments, insurance, gas and city stickers. Instead, I spend that money on designer purses.
@Nick – cab prices go up, but I don’t take a cab every day, so the affect is minimal compared to people who own a car.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:12 PM
Gonzo…I am not taking it personal but its all perspective…lets look at both stories that don’t warrant credit…first Figeroua…The man traveled around the World and in the last year played in Korea, Mexico and the Domincan before catching on with the team he rooted for growing up and throws 5 no-hit innings and wins his first big league game in 4 years…no matter what the team or where he did this..its a human interest story..and the Mets fans are hoping this guy is not terrible until Pedro gets back…Second story..Joba…the story is not about Joba..it is about the Owner of the Yankees and his GM arguing in the Media over what to do with their top prospect…I hate this statement as much as anyone..but the Yankees are the most popular franchise in baseball..they have more fans over the country than anyone Red Sox included…so just like anything Jerry Facelift does in Dallas..and Kobe and his Owner do in LA…it is a National story because more or less they are a National team…as for human interest stories..I think Chris Coste has about 2 miuntes left in his 15 minutes too…that wasn’t beat into the ground or anything…if Nelson writes a book I won’t by that either.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:12 PM
and its cool to go to bars/clubs and not have to worry about getting pulled over later
WINNER!!!!??!!!1111!!!ONE!!ELEVEN!!11!
April 21st, 2008 at 4:13 PM
You can have your cars and your subways.
For me, it’s all about the rickshaw.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:15 PM
clown…is it manned by the homeless and their intimate knowledge of the streets?
April 21st, 2008 at 4:16 PM
Pittsburgh, is it cool to always bum rides home from your friends from the subway?
April 21st, 2008 at 4:17 PM
True clown, but good Chinamen to pull me are getting so hard to find these days.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:18 PM
Roman, you are right. There are New Yorkers all over the country and the world. Everyone in the USA had relatives who had to go thru NY to become American citizens. I like arguing with you. It was clean and insightful. I gotta hand it to ya buddy. As much as college football annoys you in the summer, Yankee and Mets stories that get overblown annoy me.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:19 PM
Chinamen isn’t the proper nomenclature.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:20 PM
DID SOMEONE SAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL!?!!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!
/orgasm
April 21st, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Hey, there are good people riding the subs with me
/actually not. i refuse to make eye contact
April 21st, 2008 at 4:20 PM
@Spencer:
+ 1,000,000…one of my favorite lines
April 21st, 2008 at 4:27 PM
Gonzo…it’s cool…Seriously the stories devoted to Spring Football blow me away…I can’t believe that much attention is paid to practice with out all your players on next years team there but I spend that much time dealing with spring training which is essentially the same thing so I won’t begrudge it…I do take a point of contention on the Mets though..I don’t feel they are covered anyomore than anyone else..I see the Yankees and Red Sox but the Mets are covered like any other baseball team…at least that’s the way I see it.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:34 PM
@Spencer: The PAC-10 is the toughest conference in College Football. Hands down.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:37 PM
ASU…you may have a significant poon advantage, but your allergies towards things like defense (USC not included) and ball control (USC not included) knock it down.
1. SEC
2. Big 12
3a & 3b. Big 10/Pac 10
5. Big East
1,000,000. ACC – that’s right, there are 999,999 other conferences better at football than the ACC. then again that eskimo team from juneau does have a loaded class.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:39 PM
Just to add to that:
Yes I have $300+/month for car expenditures… I also live in a 1000+ sq ft house, with a yard for my dogs, a quiet neighborhood where no one bugs me, and no traffic comes through, a low crime rate and easy access to multiple county, state, and national parks. I grill dinner on my back porch under the shade of a maple tree while playing with my dogs 3 times a week. I have a 2-car garage I get to use to work on My snowboard, Bike, car.
I can’t remember the last time a shady looking person walked outside my house. In fact the police have never driven by my door (to my knowledge). Neighborhood kids play hockey and basketball in the streets every day with no danger from cars.
I gladly choose to pay $300/month for that luxury
April 21st, 2008 at 4:39 PM
I really think the ASU defense will surprise a lot of people this year.
In regards to the best conference nonsense. I just felt like stirring shit up. Whenever this topic of conversation gets started people have a nuclear grade melt down over which conference is better.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:42 PM
ASU…yea, i know, i was just fuckin around. plus i really hate ACC football.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Jibble must live next door to the Simpsons in Springfield.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:43 PM
@spencer- OSU is losing to USC at the start of the year. Bye bye BCS bid
/ U fan
April 21st, 2008 at 4:43 PM
@ASU–YOU’RE FUCKING CRAZY!!! kidding…just trying to play the role of neurotic SEC fan. See you on 9/20/08…well, not me, but my team.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:44 PM
Cool Rick appreciates your clarification atlanta
April 21st, 2008 at 4:45 PM
ACC football is like Pop Warner. Everyone is just happy to be playing.
/Boston College fan
April 21st, 2008 at 4:45 PM

April 21st, 2008 at 4:46 PM
fine ill get you tomorrow in Ballin
April 21st, 2008 at 4:48 PM
As a UNC guy, our football team serves as the appetizer to basketball season (that and a reason to tailgate)
April 21st, 2008 at 4:49 PM
@cbh– +1, although it took me a second to get it. And by “me,” I mean every team that I root for.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:50 PM
ATL…are you a GT or Joe-juh fan?
April 21st, 2008 at 4:51 PM
UGA, man. Born and raised. Spent the best 6 years of my life there, too.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:52 PM
@Gonzo:
Call me Flanders
April 21st, 2008 at 4:53 PM
UGA is going to the house of heat. That should be a really entertaining game. Honestly, as good as I think our defense can be, I don’t think we have an answer for stopping the UGA running back.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:53 PM
cool. then i’ll give you a congratulatory…
SSSSSSSS-EEEEEEE-CCCCCCC SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 4:53 PM
Well, hello their neighbor-ino!
April 21st, 2008 at 4:55 PM
Sagarin has ACC higher than Big 10. Ha
April 21st, 2008 at 4:56 PM
@Spencer–the SEC is so fast, I read your comment in .00000000001 seconds. But I’m sure you typed it very powerfully and lumber-y.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Oh, and Spencer, I’ll excuse your question, and the insult you inadvertently brought by even asking it. I guess I’m not quite as obnoxious as the SEC fan stereotype
April 21st, 2008 at 5:02 PM
@atl: Chipper better not be out for long.
April 21st, 2008 at 5:04 PM
no insult…just shared humor. believe me, my keystrokes were slow, yet powerful.
April 21st, 2008 at 5:13 PM
Roll Tide and stuff! I’m with you guys on owning a car, it is easily worth the money right now, the only thing I use public transport for is going to Braves/Hawks/Falcons games, oh and the circus
April 21st, 2008 at 5:13 PM
sat next to Nelson Figeroa’s family for at least two or three of his starts at the Vet when he was a Phillie. wow, so he’s a story again? i guess no matter how shitty the pitcher is, theres a market for him
April 21st, 2008 at 5:25 PM
@atl
You think it’s funny, but you won’t be laughing when My wife dies from a t-shirt cannon.
