70796_qkktghbpjn_vlarge.jpgThis is Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, but of course, you knew that. Mostly, because he’s an internet sensation who gained fame by beating people up. You also knew that because he is one of the subjects that we in the blogosphere love to argue about. On an argumentative level, Kimbo Slice, is Kobe, LeBron, the Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl chances, hoc-key?, Erin Andrews and TBL’s taste in television all rolled into one.

Is he legitimate or not? Opinions range from “the guy is a joke” to “the guy is the future of the sport.” One thing that isn’t up for debate is that Kevin Ferguson is a scary man who could beat the living tar out of any 7 of us at a time. Assuming we ever stepped far enough away from our computers that we might come into contact with him. (If you do ever encounter Kimbo Slice in the wild remember to make yourself as big as possible – he’s more scared of you than you are of him.)

One of the people who isn’t afraid to venture outside due to fear of Kimbo Slice is Chuck Liddell. Liddell recently made himself a vocal member of the “the guy is a joke.” Liddell, as you probably recall, went through a period of about a month a year ago where he was the face of the UFC. Perhaps he’s a little jealous because earlier this month, the former champ complained about all the attention Kimbo Slice was getting.

“People talk about him like he’s the next great thing when he really hasn’t done anything. He’s been built up because of the Internet and him beating a bunch of guys on the street.”

Kimbo responded in a video:

“We can always take it back to old-school; that’ll work for me,” Ferguson said. “But I still got love for all the MMA fighters, but if you keep on rapping man, I’m going to have to zip it close, baby, because I’m getting tired of the talk.
“The next one that has something to say, just see me [directly]. I’ll come to your camp, and that’s real talk.”

I think that was a threat. Liddell responded over the weekend in an interview on “Rear Naked Radio” (Seriously, where do you get the idea that MMA has homosexual undertones?):

“Before he talks about fighting me, he might want to think about beating somebody that has a winning record,” Liddell said. “He’s an Internet sensation who beat up guys at Taco Bell. Come on. How hard is that to do?”

Liddell made two great points – Going to Taco Bell is dangerous and Kimbo still hasn’t fought anybody – And that’s not going to change anytime soon. Kimbo is set to headlines the network television debut of live-mixed martial arts. Ferguson will go up against James “The Colossus” Thompson on May 31st on CBS. “The Colossus” has lost 2 straight fights. I’m guessing that his streak will probably remain in tact. A Kimbo Slice loss would probably cause EliteXC to fold. Dana White would probably lose his voice from all the I-bleeping-told-you-so’s.

Of course, Kevin Ferguson won’t lose and “Kimbo Slice” will live on when he adds “The Colossus” to his highlight reel of knockouts next month. And isn’t that what we really want? That’s how we all learned about Kimbo – watching him beat up a bunch of nobodies. It’s just now he’s not on our computer monitors or YouTubes. And he’s not going to be doing it in Marina parking lots or in backyards. Starting May 31st Kimbo Slice exclusively beats people up on our televisions sets and in our living rooms.
