The Bob Costas “State of the Sports Media” event we mentioned last month? It’s happening tonight. Costas – you may recall his blogger-bashing interview we found in the Miami Herald last month – has broken the event into five topics: Sports talk radio, blogs/internet, TV’s impact, athletes and the media, and race. Conspicuously absent? Newspapers. What, they’re not even worthy of discussion? Heck, that’s where bloggers get all their material from, right?

Perhaps more odd: He’s going to have a few newspaper guys front and center – Mitch Albom (talking about radio, for what reason, we’re not sure; his radio show has little or nothing to do with sports), Jason Whitlock, Michael Wilbon, and Jay Mariotti. But the weirdest participant has to be Braylon Edwards. Do he and Costas share the same agent or something? We could probably look that up, but it’s late in the day.

If you don’t have HBO or would rather watch the two Office reruns on TBS or the Spurs/Suns game, fear not. We’ll have a recap tomorrow.

(This photo? Costas and a couple Backstreet Boys.)
