You had to know it was coming. Not even a full 48 hours had passed from the ’08 draft and the head of Scout’s Inc released his 2009 mock draft.

Fascinating.

For those keeping score at home, McShay accurately predicted 9 out of the first 135 picks (three full rounds) this year, for a staggering 6.67% accuracy rate. This followed up his 2007 campaign, in which he scored a 9.1% accuracy rating through the first 99 picks. And yet, someone at ESPN thinks a 2009 mock draft is necessary. I’d like to meet that person and have whatever it is he or she is smoking.

For the record , a few days after last year’s draft, Newsday’s Bob Glauber projected the Top 5 picks for the ’08 Draft on a Cold Pizza episode. They were:

1. Washington Redskins – Glenn Dorsey
2. Miami Dolphins – Brian Brohm
3. Dallas Cowboys (via Browns trade) – Limus Sweed
4. Jacksonville Jaguars – Chad Henne
5. Oakland Raiders – Jake Long

In other words, Glauber thought three of this past season’s playoff teams would be in the top 5 of the draft. Yes, not only does one have to project an entire college season, he has to do the same for the pro version, something nobody has any clue how to project an hour before kickoff.

To Glauber’s credit, he was in the ballpark with Miami’s and Oakland’s slot, and included Dorsey and Long in that bunch. Wait, what am I doing? This is stupid.
