The Beginning of the End for the Yanks
Baseball May 2nd. 2008, 5:30pm
It’d be easy to pop off a THE YANKEES ARE FINISHED! little post and be done with it, but Phil Hughes is only their No. 3 starter, so three months without him isn’t going to break their season. However they’re faced with the prospect of hoping praying for an Aaron Small-type summer out of some joker, rushing along any minor league arm that looks promising, moving Joba from the bullpen, or attempting a panicked trade in which they’d get hosed. Even though there are 130 games to go, everyone’s old or hurt, and as we said in the preseason, other AL teams did more in the offseason than New York, and will be in better position to steal the Wild Card berth. We look forward to writing the Yankees eulogy in August. (This coming from someone who was born in New York and started to root for the Yankees in the 80s, when they were terrible.)

Just got my tax rebate in direct deposit. Consider this a personal invitation to Broseph’s $1,200 Crack Party!

Maybe the Yankees should request an emergency transfer to the National League Central.

PROGRAM ALERT: PTI’s 5 Good Minutes will have Buzz on the show.

How many years in a row has it been that the Yankees have been declared dead in late April/early May? This is at least the third, off the top of my head.

They teased it poorly. No Buzz. LeBatard and Wilbon said Buzz was an idiot and were equally stunned that he somewhat apologized. Ran the clip of “your full of shit” and had the same stupid ass pic of him. Nothing much.

Jay, you’re such a big market ESPN supporter.

They are done, things are going to be far less interesting without them. Now if we could just get rid of the Red Sox too…

the same thing happened last year and they still won the WC and almost won the AL East. they’re lineup is not the same without posada and a-rod, but they’ll battle through and be playing in october

It’s a shame that the Yankees losing will be a bigger story than Rays & Orioles winning.

Gonzo, the orioles and rays winning will be over soon enough, just like the yankees losing will be.
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:07 PM
Yeah, you are probably right. But it’s fun to fantasize the Rays making the playoffs.

Who gives a shit about that mediocre team in new york? The other mediocre team in new york is playing the mlb’s best team in AZ tonight.

Yankees won’t see the playoffs this year. The Rays will stir up too much hell. Boston will win the east.

yea they Yanks are totally dead. After 25 games. Stick the fork in them. Its not like they werent 10 games under 500 in June last yr and 10 games out of the WC before winning 90+ games.
Nah. Nothing like that. They’ve only played an obscene number of road games in April with no off days and came back 500. Nah!
They’re so done!
