Larry Brown Scares Us Off the Bobcats
Baseball, NBA May 8th. 2008, 6:00pm
A little over three weeks ago, we came to the conclusion that the Charlotte Bobcats were going to be our NBA “team” next year. This is what we love best about not having an allegiance to any team – it’s liberating to find an upstart who didn’t make the playoffs, learn about them, and then root for them. (Our baseball pick, Gavin Floyd, is working out OK – actually, he’s been splendid.) However, because Larry “Next Town” Brown is such a difficult fellow to root for, and he was recently named coach of the Bobcats, we would like to toss the Bobcats back and re-open our search. We just can’t root for Larry. Sorry. Other possibilities: Portland’s the obvious one, but everyone will be on the Blazers; the Bulls, especially if they land D’Antoni; with the right draft pick, the Clips could be interesting, but doesn’t Simmons root for them?; if the T-Wolves can unload Telfair and McCants, we’d consider them; Memphis for Lowry and Gay might be fun, but it plays in the toughest division in basketball; how about this – wherever Baron Davis goes, that’s our team, otherwise, we stick with Seattle.

This time next year the Bobcats will be “who’s now”

I’m very excited to live in the Portland area nowadays. If Greg Oden can be at least average next year, and we get consistent point guard play out of somebody, we should be able to contend for the playoffs.

What if Baron Davis goes back to Compton? Joining him then?

Never heard of him.

I don’t understand. You won’t pick Memphis because they play in a tough division. Sounds like you wanna jump on a bandwagon before everyone else does. Bill Simmons would agree, that’s lame.

He’ll never do what Matty Guokas did.

Gonzo – No bandwagon leaping here … it’s more like sizing up the competition of a horserace hours prior to the race. You dont want to go with the favorite … you hope to nab a longshot. Memphis has the parts to be god – but there’s no way they get out of that division.

TBL, you can join the Portland bandwagon. Riders have been pretty sparse these past few years, so we have room.
To be fair, you already were kinda on the Blazer bandwagon last year, at least looking for them to be big in two seasons.

Memphis has Kwame’s expiring contract, apparently, that’s more valuable than Pau Gasol, or so I have heard

Also included in that deal: handshake agreement between Chris Wallace and Lakers brass that states Wallace would never again pay for a meal in LA, plus some other “perks”

My comment is “awaiting moderation”?
What’s this? Meet the Press?

B-Diddy isn’t a bad place to start…
He would definitely start on my team. I think him, Shawm Marion, A.I. and J-Kidd can opt-out this summer but I doubt in any will SOooooooo that means the Trading deadline will be very interesting next year
May 8th, 2008 at 6:49 PM
Marion won’t opt out, he can’t make more than he does now, he has been exposed
May 8th, 2008 at 6:53 PM
VC was in the same situation and he opted-out and got around 48 mil over three years and Vince don’t play defense or defensive-rebound…
But I do understand where you’re coming from

The Nets highly regret that one in the worst way

Stick with the Sonics, although can you really root for a team that just up-and-leaves?
I remember hearing during the NCAA Tourney that Beasley and Durant are great friends and that Durant used to give Beasley advice before big games. Them on the same team would be pretty sick.

The Celtics and Cavs are setting basketball back about 900 years. Awful. Just Awful.

Guys, come over to the Madden thread… the last item of the day is the “gamenight” thread.

So wait, you’re saying that because a coach with a track of record of improving teams scares you off from saying that team will be better next year?
Sure, he might be a douche, but he’s a pretty good coach for the first couple of years.
