Batman Seeks Robin for Night of Fun on the Road
NBA May 27th. 2008, 6:50pm
So. Who’s going to play Robin to Kobe’s Batman tonight in game four? In Saturday’s humbling 103-84 loss, Lamar Odom shot 2-for-11 with five turnovers; Gasol had 15 points, but he also permitted Tim Duncan to tally 22 points and secure 21 boards. If neither shows their face, expect this series to be knotted at two. We should have made this post about the lefty from Argentina with the flair for the dramatic … but we suspect he’ll have a monster game and we’ll write about him tomorrow. Yup, we took the Spurs and four. Thank goodness for the 9 pm start time.

Well Alfred the Butler (Lamar Odom) must be the most important because if he doesn’t do his part (10+ pts, 10+ rebs, 5+ assists, defense) then Batman/Robin (Kobe-Pau) won’t be Saving-the-City-of-Gotham (L.A.) anytime soon

TBL, what does this even mean? It’s not like you’ll be watching anyway.

Kobe’s been settling for a ton of jumpers in this series, granted – they’ve been going in. But only 6 free throw attempts through three games is kind of staggering to think about.

i did the math today, the average margin of victory in the entire playoffs is 12.93 points, if the lakers were getting that tonight i would take it.
May 27th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
12.39, I’m dyslexic

The spurs have a good defensive matchup for Odom in Horry. They need to get Odom on the block to use his strength advantage. The Spurs have been forcing the Lakers to shoot jumpers and they aren’t particularly good at that on the road (or ever in Odom’s case). The Lakers need their bench to step up tonight in a big way and not allow San Antonio’s role players to fill it up as well as throw different looks at Duncan rather than the straight up doubles they used in game 2 that got him not only 20-20 but also 5 assists.

Jay Bruce stole a base before he ever had an AB in the majors. He’s that good.
May 27th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Tim Duncan just went from the three point line to the basket without a dribble! That’s impressive.
May 27th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Not in the NBA it isn’t. A player with the standing that Duncan has should at least be able to get from half court to the hoop
May 27th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Fisher and Odom with two fouls each in the first quarter, that could loom large. No free throws again for Kobe, and he went to the basket a little there.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Wow Jay Bruce ease up a bit.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
bad finish to the half by the spurs, who spent a lot of energy clawing back. ginobili is playin terrible but as long as he rebounds in the 2nd half, spurs should rally
May 27th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Lakers up 6 despite making 10 less free throws… Oh yeah, no free throws again for Kobe. Interesting that guys like Odom and Fisher are always in foul trouble, but the guy who guards Kobe isn’t.. HMMM.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Jay Bruce just got the greatest shaving cream pie to the face of all time.
Perfect night for the kid.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Duncan’s overrated bank shot is being exposed.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Vlad Rad literally airballed a top of the key three, that’s almost impossible to do without a blindfold.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
brent barry has to make that open three. five point swing. damn.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I mean, aren’t we to the point of some sort of investigation on how they’re not allowing Kobe to get to the line? I just looked at gamelogs over the last 5+ years, and can’t find anything remotely resembling 6 free throw attempts in 15 quarters
May 27th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Maybe David Stern agreed with Jemele Hill that there should be a Spurs-Pistons final
May 27th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Mark Madden has been fired tonight, per the AP.. after his Kennedy comments.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
The playoff experience differences of the players on the court right now is stark. Spurs have some wylie vets running around out there.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I’m not sure PJ could afford to have Kobe on the bench there.. they were up 7, and Duncan was in there..

wily vets = a bunch of Hacky McNocalls
May 27th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Cursed what did Madden say again? I’m not totally plugged into the talk radio pulse
Also Phil Jackson went to the same college as I go to, cool I know.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Wow, Kwame has been in some trades with good players.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
And you posted the link while I was typing, jackass.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Kobe and BRENT BARRY trading hoops in the fourth.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
tony parker seems to be struggling, he’s missed three pretty good looks in the last 10 mins. getting nothing from Manu and only down four? Plus being at home you’d think they have a chance, but having to face Kobe, im not so sure.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
bad shot by Farmar
May 27th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Kobe is the MVP, 1st Team All-NBA & 1st Team All-Defense and a Uber-All-Star… Yet Bowen can Mug him with no regard, Interesting Indeed
May 27th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
TBL, are you watching the game with a close eye? I know you have money on the line, but how can you not see the atrocious homecooked reffing?
May 27th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
that Odom bucket and one might end things. just not the spurs night. parker has been terrible in the second half, he just missed AGAIN
May 27th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
i dont know about the reffing, dont have the stats in front of me, but the spurs have shat the bed from the field this half. plenty of open looks. just didnt make anything.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Alfred is a Bad-Dude
May 27th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Spurs are in trouble if they’re behind and they need to foul Kobe to send him to the line late.. b/c the refs will not let it happen!
May 27th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Odom at the line in a tight game is guaranteed to at least miss one of two.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
Spurs are cooked. Kobe’s going to get his 4th ring to tie shaq. Next year, a full season with Kobe, Bynum and Gasol should be worth 60 wins, automatically.
I can already tell you one topic on first take: IS THE SPURS DYNASTY OVER?
May 27th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
And thankfully I stand corrected.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
They’ll probably win the title next year – 2009 being an odd-numbered year and all.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
whoa … wtf all just happened?
it’s down to two?
May 27th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Was that Really goal-tending on Odom
May 27th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
One thing I Do Not want to here… Manu for Three
May 27th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
no foul???
May 27th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
First Take slam dunk topic: Was that a foul on Derek Fisher?
May 27th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
That’s horrible.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
I hate the spurs as much as the next guy…but how do you not call a foul there? The NBA is getting more and more ridiculous with everyone flopping and late game reffing
May 27th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Doug Collins is even ripping Joey Crawford.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Manu would’ve got that foul call… Parker would’ve too, Maybe even Finley or Horry… But NOT Brent Berry
May 28th, 2008 at 12:00 am
the reffing is a bigger problem to the die hard NBA fan than any image problem the league’s players may have.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:01 am
The question is, how will Francesa spin this loss into a positive for the Spurs?
May 28th, 2008 at 12:01 am
I love how Tim Legler tried to blame Barry for it.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:19 am
he traveled anyways so it’s no biggie.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:21 am
I’m not seeing the travel there fetch. It is a borderline call, one that a star player probably gets if they act a little more. The goal tending call on Odom was bad, it was pretty clear he got it before it hit the backboard.
Thankfully it looks like the Spurs will not be in the Finals and America will be a better place for it.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:22 am
he switched his pivot foot. unless i am totally blind.
May 28th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Phil Jackson on Kobe taking 29 shots (scoring 14 in the paint) and not getting to the line against one of the most physical defenders in the league: “Kobe wanted to get to the line tonight, we talked about this, he was aggressive all night, It’s impossible to not get to the line on 29 shots, but I guess this was one of those exceptions tonight”
May 28th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Consider me corrected, he picked up his pivot foot before the dribble. However, that is never called in the NBA.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:04 am
No foul, like Reggie and CB said if he had jumped into him and shot as soon as he got him in the air it would have been an easy call. Also the Derek fisher shot probably touched the rim and there is no way that Kobe didn’t get fouled the entire game. The refs tried to give the Spurs the game by keeping them in it at the line, there is no way they could have made that call at the end for Brent-fucking-Barry.
