Yardwork: Chase Utley Would Like To Join the Ranks of MVP Phillies
Baseball May 27th. 2008, 9:45am
Phillies 20, Rockies 5: Chase Utley hit his major league-leading 16th homer (tied with Berkman and Uggla) and registered a career-high six RBI in Philly’s highest scoring game since July of ‘99. Last year’s NL champs are 11 games under .500, tied with the Giants for second-worst record in the NL.
Braves 7, Diamondbacks 3: Mark Teixeira had four RBI helping Brandon Webb to his 2nd loss of the season. The D-Backs outscored the Braves by 10 runs in their four-game series, but had to settle for a 2/2 split.
Rays 7, Rangers 3: At 31-20, the Tampa Bay Rays have the best record in all of baseball. Last night, Eric Hinske had three RBI and Scott Kazmir moved to 4-1 thanks to a seven-inning, one-run performance.
Marlins 7, Mets 3: On a day where Willie Randolph failed to lose his job, the Mets laid an egg at home, even with two EXCITING homers from Jose Reyes and an EXCITING two-run error. Luis Gonzalez had three RBI for the Marlins and the fish bullpen pitched four scoreless innings. In the Florida Baseball Standings, the Marlins trail the Rays by a half game.
White Sox 6, Indians 3 (12): Orlando Cabrera went 4-for-6 with the game-winning RBI and Bobby Jenks got his 13th save in 15 chances, lowering his ERA to 1.69. The Tribe have lost nine of 10.

I’d let Chase Utley bang my wife. On our anniversary.
May 27th, 2008 at 9:48 AM
The Braves laugh in the face of run differentials.
May 27th, 2008 at 9:49 AM
Jay Bruce has been called up. Pretty excited
May 27th, 2008 at 9:50 AM
The Marlins just keep on winning….
May 27th, 2008 at 9:58 AM
How do the Marlins keep winning with a payroll so low the bullpen guys qualify for food stamps?
May 27th, 2008 at 9:58 AM
It’s about time for Bruce.
Who do you think gets the axe, blaze?
May 27th, 2008 at 10:01 AM
Cut Griffey!
May 27th, 2008 at 10:01 AM
Or that base clogging asshole Adam Dunn.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:05 AM
The Rays and Marlins are in first while the Yankees and Mets are 6 and 6.5 games back. Wow.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:06 AM
@Dirty Sanchez: If it weren’t for all the student/teacher rape, then Florida would be better than New York. Alas…

The Florida Marlins are using a deadly mix of scoring more runs than they allow on most nights to carry them to victory during both afternoon and night time games.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:10 AM
According to the scouting report, the only way to beat them is to outscore them.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:12 AM
@Hef – It’s the only game plan that seems to work.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:13 AM
Hef – If you’re a high school student in Florida, then FL is definitely better than NY. Good baseball, great weather, and blowing a wad in your whore teacher > shitty baseball, obsessing about Willie Randolph, and NY public schools.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:13 AM
If you can’t get a lead in the 9th inning versus FL, you won’t win.
/Austin Carr
May 27th, 2008 at 10:13 AM
The Rockies should try that, this whole “give up as many runs as possible” strategy is clearly backfiring.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:15 AM
Those sneaky, sneaky Marlins
May 27th, 2008 at 10:15 AM
Since when are florida schools better than new york schools? I demand proof.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Happy to have the split against the D-Bags. That being said I really wish Glavine hadn’t given up that GS to Byrnes on Sunday (I think it was Sunday). Braves could have pulled that one out for a series win against arguably the best team in the NL….Oh well.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:18 AM
look at the draft. its all about the U, dickwheat
/irish
May 27th, 2008 at 10:19 AM
@Deion – I’ll take a split against the DBacks, especially including a win over Webb. Let’s hope they can take this success on the road. If they all of a sudden go cold again, then there’s got to be something mental.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:20 AM
At the risk of joining a heated debate, this Newsweek take on the best public high schools in America may help settle things.
(PS – My school cracked 100 again!)
May 27th, 2008 at 10:20 AM
i wish the tribe didnt suck…otherwise id probably have more to say.
i could just talk shit anyways, but it wouldnt have the same cache.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:20 AM
When you compare NY and FL public schools nobody wins – least of all the students.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Hef…I live on Long Island where the taxes are high and the schools are terrific (except Hempstead, Roosevelt, Brentwood and Wyndanch) My wife is a NYC public school teacher and I can tell you…the schools suck…the administators grade her on things like having four staples in everything hung on a bulletin board as opposed to something like the performance of the student..and she had a kid hit another kid over the head with a chair last week..her assistant principle said she was over reacting..the kid needed stitches….
May 27th, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Re: the link…Jesus – Florida schools are like every other school in the top 100. I had no idea. Is it because of the teacher vagina : penis ratio?
May 27th, 2008 at 10:22 AM
What is that list going to do? We have no accurate way to analyze the data.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:23 AM
I was just asking. I didn’t think florida had an education system.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:23 AM
it’s always fun to bring up urban cleveland’s 35% HS graduation rate when talking about good public schooling.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:24 AM
TBL..are you a New Yorker? What rich suburban High School did you go to then? I do ok and I would get looks driving through those neighborhoods
May 27th, 2008 at 10:25 AM
@roman: Things change when you start driving a ‘97 Mazda.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:27 AM
Could someone confirm or deny that the WhiteSox have a 3 game lead in the division and it’s the day after Memorial Day? I can’t remember. I just forgot and my mlb.com is broken. Could someone check for me and let me know if that’s true? Cause I heard the Indians and Tigers were supposed to be pretty tough this year. Status on that anyone?
May 27th, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Yeah, the worst division leader in the worst division in baseball! Hooray for mediocrity.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:28 AM
didn’t find anything on the standings, but i DID find something that said White Sox fans got theirs a few years ago, and the rest of MLB wishes they would just melt back into obscurity.
put that on the board.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Roman, if you actually had pants on when you drive through those neighborhoods, you wouldn’t get near as many looks.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Woohoo, we’re #415!
RWH – at least your wife isn’t a Baltimore City school teacher, where she would get graded on her ability to dodge bullets and break up assaults.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
CLOWN…the boys need to breath
May 27th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
He was Donald Ducking it, bra!!
May 27th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
YYYYYEASSSSSSSSSS
May 27th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Is his car invisible? Or is he waving it out the window? When I drive around with no pants on in nice neighborhoods, most people can’t tell.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:31 AM
My school didnt make it, going against everything the snoody PTA people told me about how great the school was.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:31 AM
hey Hef, your blog is shitty. If it wasnt for Roman, you would be bottom feeders
May 27th, 2008 at 10:31 AM
Ozzie’s plan to sac bunt his way to a divisional title seems to be working…he’s so smart.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:31 AM
We’re from different parts of the country. I call it Porky Piggin it, bra.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:32 AM
good stuff.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Sorry, I couldn’t hear all that slight with the rest of the division so rapidly falling off the radar in the Sox Dust. Something about Hatorade you were saying?
May 27th, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Hef..I like to play periscope as I drive around…the boys down under need to see what going on over teh steering wheel
May 27th, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Lou Pinella World Series Wins as a Manager=1
Ozzie Guillen WOrld Series Wins as a Manager=1
May 27th, 2008 at 10:34 AM
That’s the worst image I’ve ever had in my head. Ever.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:34 AM
Swandog: Lou Pinella sucks.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Come on Hef…I need to let the 14 year old girls that I am slowly driving by understand what the deal is…I would hate for things to get lost in translation
May 27th, 2008 at 10:36 AM
that’s out of control funny.
i wish i worked at home. im so much more productive sans pantaloons.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:36 AM
yea, but pinella isn’t going to be deported anytime soon.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:39 AM
Choke on it. El-Train series.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:39 AM
Roman drives a Vespa, hence the stares while he’s DDing it.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:41 AM
I see RWH more as a crotch rocket kind of guy. The young lasses love the balloon knot with the Eli Manning tattoo.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:41 AM
Thanks for clarifying that Nick. Everyone under 14 is thankful.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:41 AM
the white sox have about as much of a chance of making the world series as I do sleeping with Jessica Alba
May 27th, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Orioles 6, Yankees 1
May 27th, 2008 at 10:43 AM
tallguy, if Cash freakin Warren can tap Alba, there’s hope for you yet.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:43 AM
@ Tallguy
Why you say that? Cause the Rays are soooo good? hahaha
May 27th, 2008 at 10:44 AM
Who are the orioles?
May 27th, 2008 at 10:44 AM
Fellas..everything I do is normal..my father used to drive around in his white Econoline van and do the same thing outside of my school…it was cool…he had beer and weed
May 27th, 2008 at 10:44 AM
And icecream and a friendly jingle.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
come on…you know it’s a giant Michael Strahan tattoo with his ass crack as the gap in the teeth.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:46 AM
@nick
Ive got to imaging Corey Patterson is gone, but you know as well as I do, that may not happen. Plus, hes not a bad player to have off of the bench. To be honest, Hatteberg could be the guy. He serves no purpose right now, and is terrible as a PH. who do you think gets it?
May 27th, 2008 at 11:50 AM
correction. imagine
May 27th, 2008 at 1:00 PM
Looks like I missed some quality baseball chatter today. Bummer.
