Since the day started so well with Diora Baird I would take us out of the weekend with her as well. Besides, she’s in a golf outfit, so it’s almost like she’s relevant. I’m sure Kenny Perry would approve. His wife might not, but she’s probably not reading this.

As mention in the headline, Perry won his third Memorial Tournament, joining Tiger Woods as the only other person to accomplish this. Perry shot a 3-under 69 today to secure a 2-stroke victory. There was a four-way tie for second place between Justin Rose, Mike Wier, Jerry Kelly, and Matthew Goggin. The win puts Perry in a position to make the Ryder Cup team.

It was an especially big win for Perry because Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger said that in order to make the team had to win on tour this year. The Ryder Cup will be played in Perry’s native Kentucky and he desperately wants to make the team.

“When he [Azinger] said in the paper that you’re probably going to have to win a tournament to get on his team, that changed my thinking,” Perry said. “I’m glad I saw it.”

Perry decided to concentrate on courses he thought he could be victorious on. That meant skipping next week’s U.S. Open at Torrey Pines – a course he dislikes. Looks like his plan is working to perfection.
