Orel Hershiser’s World Series of Poker Debut
Baseball, ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings, Poker June 2nd. 2008, 11:40am
Difficult draw for the former World Series MVP and Cy Young award-winner who once nicknamed himself “dead money.” Interesting to hear that he’s moved to Vegas, though. Also odd: He actually compared the pitcher-hitter showdown to that of a heads-up match in poker: “A lot of the skills are transferable; the preparation, the ability to control your emotions, the ability to understand when the moment is, the ability not to make a snap decision, the ability to understand limping or pitching around a guy, and the ability to fold and intentionally walk somebody.”
Is Steve Phillips going to clown him for this, too?

He’s was prominently featured in the Heads Up Championship on NBC and knocked out a couple of big names. More power to the guy. If I had the money to play cards everyday I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Same here. More power to him. I thought about blowing some of the on-line cash roll at a cheaper event ($1,500 NLHE), but decided against it until the on-line cash roll is beefed up a bit.

Sandwiched between Ivey and Gavin Smith is about as tough of a test as he will find. Thanks for the link, I am gonna keep up with how he does.

I’m sure many guys agree with you, Gonzo. When do you get to change your avatar and name back to normal?

Tilly’s boyfriend made the final table in Event #1. Then got cold-decked twice. WSOP should be interesting this year; # of participants may be a good indication of how crappy the economy really is.

Gonzo you really pissed off Coop yesterday when you commented on Doc River’s balls.

A little thing like lack of money doesn’t stop compulsive gamblers.

@ CBH, I think it was cool rick that I angered. ANd I hope he wasn’t REALLY angry.
@ Sportsgal: I almost went on a rant about how I idolized orel growing up and how I enjoyed watching him pitch and tried to match him. But I felt that those 3 little words would suffice.

Oh, I change back whenever you earn you Red Wings.

Steve Phillips used to part his hair in the middle, he shouldn’t be clowning anybody.

I thought Hershiser was a devout Christian. Or do you not play the WSOP for money?

I still think Orel was throwing a loaded up sinker in the 88 playoffs, that ball just fell off the table and his pre-pitch routine would make Gaylord Perry proud.
