The Finals, or Erin Andrews’ Decolletage?
NBA June 5th. 2008, 6:30pm
A few links taking you up to the game. We’re picking Boston in seven, we made a preseason futures wager on the Celtics, and we’re rooting for the Lakers. Also just made a deal with TheBigDeal, who we’re hiring as a bodyguard when we win the lottery: If the Lakers win, he pays us; if the Celtics win the series, we have to post a photo we’d rather soon forget.
We’re not thrilled about the Breen-Jackson-Van Gundy combo – probably because they haven’t grown on us yet – so does anyone know who’s calling it on the radio? Perhaps we’ll fire up Sirius and mute the TV. At any rate, we’ll be loitering in the comments section of this post.
* How Kevin Garnett almost became a Laker. (LA Times)
* Why the this rag is a tabloid: Kobe may be better than Jordan. (Boston Herald)
* We’ve got some issues with the math here. but the idea is funny. (Simon on Sports)
Because it hasn’t been said – the six days between the Conference Finals and this game hasn’t been bad at all. The league has had ample time to pump up its best rivalry. We’re all suckers for nostalgia.

Hmmm beer
June 5th, 2008 at 6:37 PM
No way…..Jordan Farmar’s 1/2 Jewish?
June 5th, 2008 at 6:42 PM
Ohh, he’s full Jewish
June 5th, 2008 at 6:44 PM
I actually do a pretty good impression of the Breen booth, too bad this isn’t a radio site.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:44 PM
Oh and I think I still have dibs on hosting the TBL radio show. I’m not even asking TBL about this. If he wants to come on the program as a guest, he better suck up to my call screener Nick P.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:49 PM
Bob Ryan’s got the Celts… shocker.
June 5th, 2008 at 6:54 PM
radio show? Sounds like fun
June 5th, 2008 at 7:02 PM
me, cursed, le batard and TBL doing roundtable style radio would be exceptional
June 5th, 2008 at 7:03 PM
rays and red sox just got into a great bench clearing brawl. they hit crisp and he charged the mound and shields swung at him but missed. it was a crazy brawl both benches cleared, johnny gomes was murdering fools
June 5th, 2008 at 7:08 PM
sadly, im watching jeopardy while the grill heats up. also watching BBC news – geez, there is hell going on in europe because of gas prices. wonder when it comes this way …
radio show? i dont bring much to the table, except the celebrity background, newspapers, and weak TV shows. well, and some sports
June 5th, 2008 at 7:09 PM
@ TBL you’re more than qualified
// mike madden and every local sports radio host named some derivative of “big dawg”
June 5th, 2008 at 7:11 PM
My dream for this series: Kobe gets a neck injury in the first minute. Yeah, I know that’s a terrible thing to wish for, but I’m a bitter individual, and Kobe pisses me off for some reason(I also root for a nuclear blast during Yankees/red sox games, so I am a bit of a misanthrope).
June 5th, 2008 at 7:12 PM
Speaking of LeBatard: Kimbo Slice to fight Brett Rogers
Thanks for the tip cortes
June 5th, 2008 at 7:14 PM
no problem.. who do you think would win in that fight?
le batard told kimbo that he needed to be like liddell and stay off the ground and just fight people standing up and instead of agreeing, kimbo said from her on out his training will be 80% ground game and 20% standing up..
June 5th, 2008 at 7:15 PM
Anal Rapists in 6.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:19 PM
ronnie, you should send that out to the usual suspects – nice scoop
i think it should be 90-10 ground game
June 5th, 2008 at 7:19 PM
im going with 103-99 celtics in game one.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:21 PM
Come on people we all know the Lakers are taking this series, It’s just like having sex with Kobe Bryant. You can kick and scream all you want…but it’s still gonna happen.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:30 PM
yesssssssss
costco > walmart
dropped two bills at Costco last night … and that doesn’t include the pizza and churro i bought afterward
June 5th, 2008 at 7:37 PM
TBL, you ever been to BJ’s.. yes the name sounds sexual but it’s like costco and sam’s club.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:38 PM
it’s the baby bro of costco, right? who owns it? im really wedded to costco. what are you doing this summer man? dont you start school in the fall?
June 5th, 2008 at 7:41 PM

June 5th, 2008 at 7:44 PM
cortes you’re a youngin huh? Man and I thought I was young.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:45 PM
yeah bro.. any1 on here a texas rangers fan? can some one tell me why the hell they dont start salty every day at catcher? i drafted him in my keeper league and those asshole play him like twice a week.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:47 PM
dude, you’re GOING to be a senior in HS? man, you’re a lucky dog. geez. didnt discover the internet until the summer between sr yr and freshman yr in college. and that was just AOL … we’d simply go into chat rooms and raise hell
June 5th, 2008 at 7:49 PM
lol yeah you heard right. i remember the aol dial up days.. good god that sucked
June 5th, 2008 at 7:50 PM
the thing that sucked the most about those days? definitely the connection sounds…
June 5th, 2008 at 7:52 PM
can you believe that was just 13 years ago? I didn’t have a cell phone then. Not sure anyone did. That’s what’s scary about technology. Where will we be in another 13 years?
This is why i loaded up on Apple stock. And the new iphone comes out soon … so pumped, this phone i’ve got sucks ass
June 5th, 2008 at 7:53 PM
@TBL good choice by you. can’t go wrong with a macbook or iphone. not sure why anyone is still buying windows based computers at this point
June 5th, 2008 at 7:55 PM
I would love a round table format with TBL, sadly, on my salary, I might have to settle for a card table discussion
vaudeville humor
By the way, Elite MC scripted that nicely. They knew they didn’t have anyone for Kimbo that would have appeal, and that guy starts yapping right afterwards, so some people are familiar.. and he’ll be a can, i’m guessing.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:55 PM
yeah i know what you mean. iphone? man that phone sucks… so overrated. check out the sony ericsson x1.. that’s a phone!
June 5th, 2008 at 7:56 PM
has anyone else heard the actual audio clip from rogers calling out kimbo??
if you get a chance to hear it, listen in the background as one of kimbo’s people says “you a hater rogers!!” very funny. and the guy at the end who inexplicably says “ok enough with these stooooooopid media types”
June 5th, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Cortes, you’re right. I’m running windows XP, and I’m contacting Guiness to see if I’m set the record for most virus scans run in a 24-hour period. Perhaps I should change my surfing habits.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:58 PM
It was Baroni who chimed in later telling people to stop. Funny b/c Baroni talks more shit than anyone, and funny b/c he had two golf balls on his face.
June 5th, 2008 at 7:59 PM
@ cursed thats the guy who walked out in the red robe and had girls spritzing him correct? only to get his ass kicked.. you cant make this shit up
June 5th, 2008 at 8:03 PM
Jimmy Kimmel pre-pre-game? Lovely…
June 5th, 2008 at 8:04 PM
watching the ESPN preview … let’s be honest guys, the Lakers are not here if the Gasol trade doesn’t happen. end of story. he hasn’t even been mentioned!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:06 PM
Cursed, did you see the Torres/Maeda fight? Fight of the year or fight of the decade?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:06 PM
@clown. that fight was exceptional but the pulver-faber was better IMO
June 5th, 2008 at 8:07 PM
There may not be many certain things in life, but taking the over in any Rangers game is a LOCK!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:08 PM
cortes, that fight was mostly striking. T/M were pulling everything out of the hat.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:10 PM
yeah i guess since i havent been following MMA very long i enjoy the stand up fighting more
June 5th, 2008 at 8:11 PM
i will look into this ericksson business, but i really love the look and feel of the iphone. i have an itouch, which we got free (won it!) and it’s fun.
does anyone else laugh every single time they hear the term, ‘jiggle joint?’
June 5th, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Guys, I think that’s Erin Andrews on Kimmel with the Spelling Bee champ…
June 5th, 2008 at 8:12 PM
holy shit. everyone look at erin andrews WOW
June 5th, 2008 at 8:13 PM
Erin Andrews is showing cleavage, terrific formal wear.
Also Clown, I have not seen it yet, but people have been telling me to check it out. I definitely will.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:17 PM
TBL check your email, look for the erin andrews subject line
June 5th, 2008 at 8:17 PM
whoa
that pic is going up in 5 mins!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:18 PM
I’m clutch TBL what can i say
June 5th, 2008 at 8:20 PM
Lakers in 5.
And Apple products suck. Windoze rule.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:21 PM
Jay V = Steve Ballmer
June 5th, 2008 at 8:21 PM
And TBL…I see you changed your photo on your Metro column, you’re now wearing a suit, huh? Your idea, or the brass?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:22 PM
Jay V wishes more than you could ever imagine that I was Steve Ballmer.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:25 PM
ok, photo updated. im going to catch hell for this, damn you ribald commentators!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:25 PM
jay v – suit? huh? i think it’s jeans and a sport jacket with a button down. im 100% sure it’s no suit.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:26 PM
NBA Finals=BCS Championship
Celtics=Ohio State
Lakers=Florida/LSU
June 5th, 2008 at 8:26 PM
BTW Clown, Gonzo was dead on about Rollins not husting today…was at the game this afternoon, and made the same obseration…and this comes a day after his bobblehead night!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:27 PM
The lighting in that picture is bad. She looks sun burned. She must have gone tanning with Ric Bucher.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:29 PM
I wonder if it’s the same photo of TBL I showed last week. Looks like his head was photoshopped onto a nice outfit lol.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:29 PM
TBL…I could swear you had a tie on? Guess it wasn’t a suit, but I thought you had tie on. Maybe not, keep in mind my Metro reading usually occurs about 6:30 am.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:30 PM
Jay V. Hopefully J-Roll will wake up out of his coma. He’s been sleepwalking out there for the past month.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:32 PM
What time is the actual tip tonight?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:33 PM
Dontnomuch…even though I think the Lakers will whip the Celtics, I don’t like that comparison. A more apt comparison to Ohio State would be the Nets of 02 & 03.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:33 PM
you’re on the subway at 6 am? I actually have never seen the photo they use in the philly version … but i would assume it’s the same.
at any rate … cortes needs a photo credit, no?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:34 PM
yes i do!
June 5th, 2008 at 8:34 PM
You don’t want me posting that photo again Mister Raj.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:35 PM
Gonzo…one great thing about the game today…I caught a foul ball off the bat off Cole Hamels!!! My 2nd foul ball catch in my life, and you had to go back to 1992 for the first when I caught one off the bat of Marquis Grissom at Riverfront Stadium.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:35 PM
Well the Nets hadn’t won a title 4 years prior. People seem to forget about this tiny little fact.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:36 PM
No shit Jay? That’s awesome. I wonder if you were on tv. The game is on CSN now. go look for yourself.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:36 PM
I think you have to, Gonzo. I think I saw a tie in there last time.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:37 PM
Cursedcleveland…that’s fair…but the Celtics had not either.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:37 PM
Jay V – I caught my first foul ball at PNC Park a couple weeks ago. Another one to check off the “to do” list in life
June 5th, 2008 at 8:37 PM
Neither did Ohio St, Cursed. Yep, still bitter. Nope, not gonna get over it.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:38 PM
@Cortes – Macs might be better, but are they 3x better? A macbook starts around $1100. I’m typing on a prefectly good Compaq laptop that I bought for $400 at Office Depot.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:38 PM
Gonzo, definitely post that photo, so I can see whether I was dreaming or not.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:39 PM
yeah i’d say 3x times better, sounds about right.. i mean you buy a macbook and your good for 7-10 years with that computer no questions asked. you dont need to run anti spyware or pay 70 bucks every year for noton. its no hassles, do whatever you want on a computer
June 5th, 2008 at 8:40 PM
I gotta go look for it. But I know he’s wearing a sport jacket shirt and tie. Not really looking like a suit. More like somethin Larry David would wear if he was trying to be fancy.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:41 PM
TBL, the pdf link of your column and pic was definitely a suit. I think Gonzo posted it?
Btw, just when we didn’t think your roundup pics could get any worse, you went and tooootally redeemed yourself with that EA photo.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:41 PM
Never paid for Norton, actually. I usually clean it up myself, or pull down the version my wife gets from the U of MN. 7-10 might be pushing it though, just due how technology works.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:46 PM
I’ve always used avg for free..but now they’re going to start charging. Anybody have any suggestions.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Isn’t FOUR LETTER Radio doing the Finals? I think someone here said it was Tirico and Hubie doing the game.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Dell refurb > Macs
/when you’re poor like me
June 5th, 2008 at 8:48 PM
Hence the $400 Compaq, clown. I have too many other things to spend money on.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:49 PM
Cursed, are you sure about the elimination of AVG Free? Their pop-ups to upgrade are a bit misleading.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:51 PM
Costco is awesome. We go to Sam’s Club down at school, which is pretty solid as well.
Odds on what will happen at this Apple conference on Monday
June 5th, 2008 at 8:52 PM
link not working for me vegas
June 5th, 2008 at 8:52 PM
Who the hell needs a security program. All you need are Zone Alarm, AdAware, and Spybot S&D. All free.
Oh, and don’t let the missus touch your computer.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:53 PM
Vegas, I saw those already on Charles Barkley’s blog.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:53 PM
Really, cortes?
http://www.bodoglife.com/sports-betting/business-financial-props.jsp
Try that, but it’s working fine for me.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:54 PM
james taylor? really?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:54 PM
Haven’t hit the site, but I gotta guess the strongest odds are that Jobs is resplendent in blue jeans and block mock turtleneck.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
there, the 2nd link worked. .thanks
June 5th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
nothing gets you hyped for game 1 of the nba finals like a man and his guitar.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
+3 twelfthman–really? indeed…
June 5th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
I also bet on what color thong he’s wearing underneath said blue jeans.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
Vegas, when you’re driving, do you ever calculate the odds you’ll make 4 green lights in a row?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
3G iPhone better be announced on Monday. Apple rules. Typing on a MacBook right now.
C’s in 7.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:56 PM
James Taylor – wow, get Aerosmith, Dropkick Murphys or even the band Boston instead
June 5th, 2008 at 8:56 PM
+800 that you can pee on the 2nd gen iPhone to make it recharge? Should I put a couple of thousand on that one?
June 5th, 2008 at 8:57 PM
Anyone wanna play the “Who looks nervous” game? Always fun to overreact to players emotions before big games.! Paul Pierce was my pick.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:58 PM
dj mbenga is gonna get a ring. he’s following in SLAVA MEDVEDENKOs (said in Screamin’ A’s voice) footsteps. lakers in 6, although i want ray allen to get a ring.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:58 PM
Isn’t Boston’s place where they do the smoke introductions? Ugh.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:59 PM
@cursedcleveland: i bet its doc rivers. “OMG how did i get here?”
June 5th, 2008 at 8:59 PM
Celtics essentially coming out to a Justin Timberlake song railing on technology..hmmm.
June 5th, 2008 at 8:59 PM
haha, brian scalabrine looks a lot like tony allen.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:00 PM
TBL if you think decolletage sounds less creepy than cleavage, you’re wrong. You should man up and change the headline to “The Finals, or EA’s tits.”
June 5th, 2008 at 9:01 PM
dj mbenga saying tacos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1rZBxn3Zx8
June 5th, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Dangerous combo TBL, the word “suckers” with THAT photo
Mmmmmmmm
June 5th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
Still need pumping up? How about the best video montage on the interweb: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JFwaBWkpdcE
June 5th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
WTF happened to breen’s face?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
Who kicked Mike Breen’s ass?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:04 PM
Who hit Mike Breen in the face? Whats up with the band-aid?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:04 PM
He met Kimbo Slice outside the arena, and beat his punk ass
June 5th, 2008 at 9:04 PM
i think he just took out his eyebrow ring.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:04 PM
He cut himself shaving his unibrow?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:05 PM
+5 mike nyc
June 5th, 2008 at 9:05 PM
is it illegal to wear a tshirt under your jersey in the nba? someone should bring that from college to the L.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:06 PM
Geez I’m nervous. I hope Doc just sits down and shuts up during this series and lets my boys play, because no way can he carry Phil’s jock. I mean I like the guy, but come on. A tactician he ain’t.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:06 PM
Well Marv’s got his thing.. perhaps Breen likes to get a little physical, with weaponry
June 5th, 2008 at 9:07 PM
The coaching thing is so overrated, it’s not even funny. Coaches do their jobs getting their teams prepared. Both teams will be prepared… but at this point, PJ or Doc are not going to win or lose the series.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:08 PM
this new hulk movie is going to be a major letdown. and i really like ed norton too…lame.
yes i would wnba…yes i would. thats a terrible marketing campaign on their part.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Cursed, that video would have really pumped me up if it had shown raja clotheslining kobe.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
@cursed.. agree completely.. so is chemistry.. the 2 teams playing in the finals are one team who has been together for barely a season and another whose star player asked for a trade not once but twice in the offseaon.. fuck intangibles!
June 5th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
False. He wears no underwear.
/Dwight Schrute
June 5th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
guys, guys… i just realized something – erin andrews is hot!
June 5th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
the trophy in the middle of the court is heinous. we get it…this is the finals.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
Wow, which embarrassing Celtic fan sold those courtside seats right next to Doc.. to LAKER fans.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
I say that and I guarantee I would have sold my tickets to Nicholson for 35 grand.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
Thanks to Gonzo, here’s the link to TBL’s sweetass suite/blazer combo thing.
http://www.readmetro.com/show/en/Philadelphia/20080529/1/17/
June 5th, 2008 at 9:13 PM
(CONSPIRACY ALERT: this post was just put into moderation. What about now?) Thanks to Gonzo, here’s the link to TBL’s sweetass suite/blazer combo thing.
http://www.readmetro.com/show/en/Philadelphia/20080529/1/17/
June 5th, 2008 at 9:14 PM
tbl, you look so… byline-y
June 5th, 2008 at 9:15 PM
haha, I swear dude. it wasn’t me.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:15 PM
TBL writes for Metro? They give that shit out for free when you get off the subway in the morning. I’m going to have to start picking it up.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:16 PM
KFC, I just had soda come out my nose from reading your comment. Partly because it was hilarious, partly because of my cocaine habit.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:17 PM
That’s a bad habit, gonzo. Don’t you know soda weakens the bones?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:18 PM
@cursedcleveland
not just Laker fans, but Laker fans dressed like THAT
June 5th, 2008 at 9:18 PM
Gonzo, now you’ve got me picturing the Peter Brady volcano experiment. You sure your nose wasn’t packed with vinegar and baking soda? No? Definitely was coke? Oooookaaaay….
June 5th, 2008 at 9:19 PM
yeah i’m diggin that dude’s hat. they look so uncomfortable.
and yeah, 12thman, the trophy has to go.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:19 PM
TBL..you use your middle name too? Wow…you look like you are farting in that head shot.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:20 PM
Yeah. Wednesday or Thursday usually.
I missed the Breen moment early … what’s this about a busted grill?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:21 PM
RWH +1
June 5th, 2008 at 9:21 PM
why is vlad rad shooting the ball? who does he think he is, sam cassell?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:21 PM
Fantastic. Looking forward to it.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
@TBL: he had the smallest band-aid in the world over his eyebrow.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
na he had a cut above the eye, had a band-aid on.. not sure if any one else agrees but it looked like his left eye wasnt open completely like it had been hit?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
He had a banage above his left eye
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
I hate when Kobe does this – the whole, i’m-going-to-let-everyone-else-warm-up-and-get-hot-while-i-patiently-wait-because-i-know-i-can-take-over
it’s a bit arrogant.
WHOA, what is this movie with Jess Alba? Oh shit, Timberlake is in it? Forget it. But i guess this is why Mike Myers is on the cover the Esquire i just grabbed out of the mailbox. Weak.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
wow, make that bandage
damn drunk typing
June 5th, 2008 at 9:23 PM
love guru > zohan
only because
alba > entourage girl
June 5th, 2008 at 9:24 PM
every single one of the movies mentioned is part of the downfall of our society…every time I see the previews I die a little bit inside
June 5th, 2008 at 9:24 PM
Just when Maple Leafs fans thought it couldn’t get worse, here comes The Love Guru
June 5th, 2008 at 9:24 PM
Jordan would have never missed his first three shots. Kobe sucks.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:25 PM
KG could have a Duncan-like series if Gasol plays D this poorly
and thereeeeeeee’s Kobe
June 5th, 2008 at 9:25 PM
tbl, i know you’re not. a. fan. of sandler, but his supporting characters are always great. that’s usually why i enjoy his movies.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 PM
Refs don’t understand the rule…
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 PM
why do they have that stupid gold trophy shit at midcourt? def looked like an over and back … replays show otherwise
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 PM
If you want to see a good Sandler film, check Reign Over Me. It’s a drama and for the most part Sandler controls himself, although every time I hear the accent he uses in the movie, I think of Fatty McGee
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 PM
kfceater, including Spanglish?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:27 PM
the big Larry O’Brien trophy just confused the shit out of the ref at center court on that backcourt call.

June 5th, 2008 at 9:28 PM
sandler was cash $ on SNL, but he can’t carry a movie. he’s a career 2nd banana
oh shit, nice move by Ray Allen
June 5th, 2008 at 9:28 PM
Spanglish was a good movie.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
no, not spanglish. paz vega is hot. that’s the only good thing about that movie.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
I actually like seeing Jesus play well.. I’ve always liked him, and felt bad for him with his playoff struggles.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
Gonzo, not a chance.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
Ray Allen representin’ with the Iverson sleeve. His street cred just shot way up.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
sorry gonzo
June 5th, 2008 at 9:30 PM
it is realllll tough not to like Ray Allen’s stroke
June 5th, 2008 at 9:31 PM
Welcome Back Kotter is on WGN. That’s terrific counter-programming
June 5th, 2008 at 9:31 PM
Will there be any reason to go to the movies this summer after Batman?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:31 PM
Spanglish? are we really talking about fucking Spanglish? What’s next Click…sweet tap dancing Christ…fuck
June 5th, 2008 at 9:32 PM
TBL, please send a high-res copy of your Metro column photo over to CapeCodeLeagueJerk. I promise not to microsoft paint it.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:32 PM
Wow Tafoya’s face was NOT made for HD! Christ!!
Where’s EA when you need her?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:32 PM
@holden – i don’t think so… i’ve said on here before, the only things that look to me like they’ll be worth the price of admission are batman and the happening

June 5th, 2008 at 9:33 PM

June 5th, 2008 at 9:34 PM
Don’t sell yourself short. That was was tremendously weak.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:34 PM
spanglish, huh? haven’t seen. not really in the plans. just as an FYI, i will, at some point, be doing a movie post on Vanilla Sky. it’s a polarizing movie, but i enjoy it greatly (well, the conept, and the first 40 mins)
nice swat by Pau
too much handle my Rondo. i know he’s the PG, but you dont want that
June 5th, 2008 at 9:34 PM
John Clayton could beat up that joke
June 5th, 2008 at 9:35 PM
TBL…That Joke was AWESOME..high five
June 5th, 2008 at 9:35 PM
busted alley!
June 5th, 2008 at 9:35 PM
What Posey just did would have been a flagrant against LeBron..dragged him down just now.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:35 PM
im gonna keep an eye on posey-KB … i think posey is a dirty player and cocky, too … he got a little grabby with Kobe there
posey is a real big punk
June 5th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
Posey’s value takes a significant hit if he does crap like he just did to Kobe.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
now that’s funny. i may use that, hope you dont mind
June 5th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
i enjoyed everything about vanilla sky except kurt russel
is VS more polarizing than eyes wide shut?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
Cursed, Juan Epstein and the Sweathogs will be on the Silver Screen…
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780649/
June 5th, 2008 at 9:36 PM
I played B’ball against Posey growing up… taught him nothing he knows.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:37 PM
TBL..I couldn’t deal with Vanilla Sky…to me it had all the right ingredients and It just didn’t work for me…I would rather talk about that then Spanglish though
June 5th, 2008 at 9:37 PM
Posey means to much to the C’s to be doing that crap, let PJ Brown do that stuff. That’s where having a coach like Doc hurts them, Phil would not put up with that.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:38 PM
TBL, be my guest
June 5th, 2008 at 9:38 PM
Spanglish? You wanna talk about Spanglish? Spanglish? I mean listen, we’re sitting here talking about Spanglish, not the Lakers, not the Celtics, not a game, but we’re talking about Spanglish. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it’s my last but we’re talking about Spanglish, man. How silly is that?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:38 PM
although if YOU think it’s funny…

June 5th, 2008 at 9:39 PM
well done RKDS
June 5th, 2008 at 9:39 PM
Damn it, I’m late…and as for Posey, I fucking hate him. That said, I’ve decided to root for my money and go with the Celtics. HEAR THAT LAMOTHE?! ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

June 5th, 2008 at 9:40 PM
Dear Coach Jackson, my son Kobe will not be playing at full strength tonight. He misses his dog, who is back in Los Angeles. He should make a full recovery by game three.
Signed,
Kobe Bryant’s Mother.

June 5th, 2008 at 9:41 PM
my halftime assignment – fix the meet surround sound that i have. it’s sad, really – just two big ass subs (actually, 12-inch cerwin vegas that hit hard; they look like sorta that, but i bought them in like 1996) hooked up to the TV. one seems to be out.
i like to hear the bounce of the ball, that’s cool
June 5th, 2008 at 9:42 PM
for real?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:42 PM
What the hell does banquet beer even mean?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:42 PM
TBL, are they the subs you removed from your 1997 Mazda?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:42 PM
@Gonzo
When the fuck did Tom Brady find time to direct a movie?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Yep… he’s from Twinsburg Ohio, 15 minutes away.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
@ ill the cast of that movie is def star studded. And that not even counting the Coen brothers as directors.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
I just noticed that Groin. Hilarious. Perhaps Giselle is playing Mrs Kotter? That would make sense.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
at what point in the game does this start to get extremely physical? They’re almost obligated to based on history.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Grandma’s Boy>>>>>>Any Sandler movie after Happy Gilmore
June 5th, 2008 at 9:45 PM
yeah, that movie has to be silly.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:45 PM
cursed, you were like 160 when you interviewed Blanche. That means you were probably 140 in high school. Therefore, you didn’t ball against Posey. Shenanigans called, my friend.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:46 PM
best cohen brothers movie ever? whats your nomination
June 5th, 2008 at 9:46 PM

I gotta go with Big Lebowski
June 5th, 2008 at 9:47 PM
Ice Cube is supposed to play Mr Kotter. So right away, the movie is gonna suck. That’s the only actor named in the movie so far.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:47 PM
nice lebowski reference

Irish would be in love:

I got to play against Lavar Arrington and Brandon Short (2 NFL LB’s) in high school hoops, and got to watch Rasheed kill our squad when I was a frosh in HS.
Lavar was unfairly athletic (and he was only a frosh when I played against him as a senior).
June 5th, 2008 at 9:47 PM
but I am one of the 27 people that loved O Brother
June 5th, 2008 at 9:48 PM
the lakers have 24 points in about 15 minutes
they’re not ready for this kind of defense. every shot is tightly contested. i dont think the spurs played d this tight

June 5th, 2008 at 9:49 PM

Best Coen brothers movies: 1. Fargo 2. Big Lebowski 3. No country for old men
June 5th, 2008 at 9:49 PM
Not even a question…WE WANT ZE MONEY LEBOWSKI
June 5th, 2008 at 9:49 PM
Fargo was beast too.
Cassell can’t keep this up. He’s a disease to teams.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:50 PM
i’d say lebowski, no country, then fargo
June 5th, 2008 at 9:50 PM
i went to the same high school that mike napoli(Catcher with the angels) went to and my brother played on the same team as his..
June 5th, 2008 at 9:50 PM
@cortes–Fargo
June 5th, 2008 at 9:50 PM
Big Lebowski is the easy answer, but I’ll go Ladykillers.
Just fuckin’ with ya. O Brother, all the way. Great soundtrack as well.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:52 PM
IS HE AS GOOD AS MICHAEL JORDAN? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
Kobe did nothing the last three years, and now that he has teammates to help him, he’s all of a sudden close to Jordan. Could he get his team out of the first round? Gimmie a break. Mark Jackson is a fucking moron.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:52 PM
yeah agree with the 3 movies, i don’t know what order i put them in.. im usually in the minority on most discussions which would explain why my gut feeling was 1. no country 2. fargo 3.millers crossing 4. lebowski
June 5th, 2008 at 9:52 PM
I’ve never seen O Brother, but I don’t see how it could be Fargo. And that’s funny to say for me because the first time I watched the movie I didn’t really like it that much. It grew on me.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:52 PM
You guys never saw Miller’s Crossing?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Rothelishotdog…I got to play against Amos Zoeroue and Morlon Greenwood and Brandon Moore (Rob Moore’s Brother and former National Champion at Oklahoma) was my high school teammate
June 5th, 2008 at 9:53 PM

1 The Big Lebowski
2 O Brother Where Art Thou
3 Raising Arizona
4 Fargo
5 No Country For Old Men
June 5th, 2008 at 9:53 PM
miller’s crossing is exceptional.. that has to be in the top 3
June 5th, 2008 at 9:53 PM
haven’t seen miller’s crossing
June 5th, 2008 at 9:53 PM
Hard to argue with several of their films, except for Ladykillers. That was a big, steaming pile of Hef.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
poor hef
June 5th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
Mark Jackson always hates on players, finds the neg in any play.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
i just got the car like two months ago – it just has stock stuff. i may put in 6×9s, but that’s it. the car was free, doesn’t have power door locks. i call it the go-kart. great gas mileage, though
June 5th, 2008 at 9:55 PM
Raising Arizona is one of two films I can watch with Nicholas Cage and not feel that he is ruining the movie…8MM is the other
June 5th, 2008 at 9:55 PM

June 5th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
Garnett is one of the best big man jump shooters of all time?? C’mon Jeff.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
I got to play against Lavar Arrington and Brandon Short (2 NFL LB’s) in high school hoops, and got to watch Rasheed kill our squad when I was a frosh in HS.
Lavar was unfairly athletic (and he was only a frosh when I played against him as a senior).
Rothelishotdog…I got to play against Amos Zoeroue and Morlon Greenwood and Brandon Moore (Rob Moore’s Brother and former National Champion at Oklahoma) was my high school teammate
Oh yeah? Well I performed Ronny Turiaf’s heart surgery. Beat that, fuckers.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
TBL, Jordan would have done nothing with Smush and Kwame and injuries… That’s what Kobe put up with the last two years.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
TBL, go rent Millers Crossing. Great movie, just not in my Coen top 5
June 5th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
COME ON GUYS, nobody else is outraged at the Jordan-Kobe stuff? and im not even a Jordan guy!!
Q: Cortes, got any more Erin Andrews photos? Can you get a good screen grab from the game? We’re going to need another post
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
almost as fucked up as the movie Old Boy
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
I drove the car that Kobe jumped over
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
They filmed raising arizona up the block from my house.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
Never heard of Miller’s Crossing? Put it in your Netflix queue. You won’t be disappointed.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
no more andrews photos but ill see what i can do from the game
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
TBL..Amos was the Shit…two time player of the Year in Nassau County (not many guys do that)I also ran track against him..one of the nicest dudes…track meets are one big wait so we used to hang and shoot the shit
June 5th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
I feel like 8 MM was my biography (and Cage was not playing my role).
June 5th, 2008 at 9:58 PM
Rob Moore (if you are referring to the former Jets receiver) was no Al Toon to say the least.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:58 PM
@holden, you seen Blood Simple?
June 5th, 2008 at 9:58 PM
the site’s acting up for me like it did during the EXC fight
June 5th, 2008 at 9:58 PM
i hate Jordan and Kobe, so lumping them together is fine by me.
I wouldn’t even be watching the game if I weren’t at work and people in the room want to watch it. Only fair, since I made them watch the Stanley Cup last night.
June 5th, 2008 at 9:59 PM
TSP…that was the Rob Moore..and he will be the first to tell you that

06-07 lakers
90-91 bulls
hate to break it to you, but there isn’t a whole helluva lot of difference between the two
June 5th, 2008 at 10:00 PM
@ill Yeah. Goddammit it’s tough to narrow down their movies. Just say everything but The Ladykillers and leave it at that.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:00 PM
he actually was not that bad. As a Jets season ticket holder I have seen WAY worse over the years.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:00 PM
Miller’s Crossing is fantastic. I never understood the hullabaloo over Blood Simple, their debut film.
P.S.
Kobe is NOT as good as Jordan. Marc Jackson needs to just stop.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Who did Barkley take tonight and how much did he wager?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Hmm, how many games did Scottie Pippen miss that year, or Horace Grant?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 PM
TBL…there are two huge differences…Ho Grant and future HOF Scottie Pippen…and no Kobe is not Jordan…
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 PM
TBL, I gotta ask…did Kobe allegedly assault your sis or something? I’m just saying, cuz you really, really hate the dude.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Who did the Lakers have of Pippen’s quality? Or do you mean, other than Pippen not a lot of difference? lol
June 5th, 2008 at 10:01 PM
But how do we feel about the Clooney-Zeta-Jones catastrophe?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:02 PM
@kfc Must be almost as many people watching this game as watched exc
June 5th, 2008 at 10:02 PM
Do you think they still sell the game shorts from those classic Celts/Lakers games?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:02 PM
He said “on any given night”.. And that’s true. That’s not that outrageous of a statement.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
as a die-hard jets fan in the 80s, Al Toon was my favorite player. My 2nd favorite? Freeman McNeil. i was a big Rob Moore guy, too. Wesley Walker, Ken O Brien, Johnny Hector … loved those lovable losers
the lakers only have 35 points in 19 minutes! on pace for MAYBE 90
June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
Don’t stand on the tracks when Black Mamba’s coming through…apparently.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
@TBL: I don’t get pissed at that talk because I know who is the greatest of all time. I went to his basketball camp when I was 14 and I’m pretty awful when it comes to basketball. I have my team picture in my room framed with MJ and my coach. We went 14-1 and won the championship..not that anyone gives a shit. The camp was three days long, and Jordan drove to camp in: A Ferrari, A Lamborghini, and BMW Motorcycle. The only vanity plates I remember was the BMW: MJ 23
June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
when are they gonna start the sam cassell-jordan comparisons?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 PM

June 5th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
almost
June 5th, 2008 at 10:04 PM
I don’t think Kobe is better or the same as MJ yet… but he has the potential. He’s in his prime right now and will be for the next 6 years.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:04 PM
@kfc But we’ll probably see a better fight tonight
June 5th, 2008 at 10:04 PM
so did tbl and irish ever make their bet?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Mark Jackson needs to shut the hell up about this MJ – Kobe stuff.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Except for the pronounced absence of white men, this game is making me very nostalgic.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
wow crazy sequence
June 5th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Intolerable Cruelty isn’t horrible. It’s infinitely better than Leatherheads, just lesser Coens. Now Barton Fink, when Frasier’s dad is talking about “being a little bitch dog getting his belly scratched” and drinking himself silly, there’s some interesting shit.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Magic said that he thinks Kobe needs 4 more rings to be close to Jordan. Don’t worry TBL, he’s not getting those.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
for the Celtics that is
June 5th, 2008 at 10:07 PM
TBL…Freeman was the best. Was a huge Heath Shuler and Wesley Walker fan and of course loved TOOOOOOOOON. Klecko was solid as well. Could not stand Ken O’Brien I still have nightmares of him taking sacks.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:07 PM
I love the awkwardness when the crowd starts chanting “BULLSHIT” and the announcers just sit there not knowing what to say about it.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:07 PM
holden, I don’t think you count Euros as white men
June 5th, 2008 at 10:07 PM
I am in the middle of reading this for the second time (actually, I’m taking a break to read Liar’s Poker), it’s really fantastic. Some of the anecdotes of Jordan’s drive/competitiveness off the court are fucking brilliant.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Murdering the Celts with the 2-man game.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Jordan > Kobe
Pippen > Odom (Pip was not HOF at the time; i believe the year before it was the ‘headache’ game against Detroit)
Grant > Luke Walton
Obviously we’ll never know, but that team was all Jordan and some spare parts. And really, i dont hate Kobe, i just dont think that he’s in the GOAT discussion. Don’t think he makes his teammates that much better – hence the last poor three years – and we’ll never know because he won with Shaq and now he’s winning with a stacked team.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
clown, especially if you’re standing next to them
June 5th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
@Cursed: When Kobe can score 3,041 points in a season, ok. When Kobe can win 6 NBA finals MVP’s ok.
Even though I’m extremely biased, Jordan and Kobe are not in the sentence. Same Paragraph? Absolutely.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
id agree with the 4 more rings before hes pushin jordan…and up his average a few points…
June 5th, 2008 at 10:09 PM

Charlie Sheen + Michael Jordan = millions of STD’s
June 5th, 2008 at 10:09 PM
@TSP
Do you mean Mickey Shuler? As a Redskin fan I ask that you never type the name Heath Shuler again.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
He’s not in the discussion yet in my opinion TBL. But i’m saying the potential is definitely there. Didn’t Jordan leave the game at age 30 with three rings. Kobe is 29… anything can happen over the next 6+ years.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
no, he wouldn’t take lakers to sweep, and i think lakers in 5 is a possibility. we couldn’t find a middle ground
i can’t tell if Hulk looks good or not
June 5th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
No. That would be pretty clever though.
I would have some actual commentary on the basketball game, but Indians-Rangers is far more competitive.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
@ Holden…haha yeah I do, man I am an idiot. To think I had his #82 Jersey when I was a little kid. Goddamn Heath Shuler
June 5th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
@ holden, ditto that.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Oh christ, how many times are they going to show this security guy Denali commercial?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Mickey Shuler: definitely a better Penn St. tight end than Kyle Brady
June 5th, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Compelling. Idiot.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Scottie Pippen was only in the top 50 because of Jordan. Look at what that fucking crybaby did in 94-95 when the team was his to run: 22 ppg. That’s it. And sat out the finals seconds of a playoff game because Jackson called the final shot for Kukoc instead of him. He was a whiny bitch who owes everything to Jordan for what he got in return
June 5th, 2008 at 10:12 PM
Jordan didn’t even have vitamin water.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Someone wrote a book about Mike Mussina and Tom Glavine?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Mickey Shuler: probably a better QB than Heath Shuler
June 5th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Dr. C, agree and disagree. Kobe could have named his average this year, but then he would have gotten killed. I really thing Jordan’s high shooting percentage early in his career was a product of being a man amongst boys, something he wouldn’t have been in today’s game. Every team has a 6′7 guy (actually 3 or 4 of them, that can move). Back then, 6′2 guys who were slower than Jordan guarded him (i’m talking about the mid to late 80’s). Sure they could handcheck, but they couldn’t play zone.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
You can’t tell if Hulk looks good or not? TBL, I’m starting to question your taste in movies. I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt:) For the record, it will suck.

TBL..Pippen and Grant averaged more per game than Kobe’s next guy, Smush Parker…that Bulls team was more than Jordan and spare parts…the late 80’s teams are Jordan and Spare parts…by 91..it was all in place
June 5th, 2008 at 10:14 PM
yeah he follows them around for a year. pretty cool insight
June 5th, 2008 at 10:14 PM
+1 Holden
June 5th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
TBL watches Shallow Hal every month. that’s all you need to know about his taste in movies.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
And Jordan is the most polarizing player of the era, people either thought he was overrated or underrated. I think underrated. He was a better defender than Jordan and look at his year w/o Jordan, when the Bulls won 55 games. He was pretty good. He went 22/9/6 assists.. and did so shooting 50%
June 5th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
TSP, I assume you’re referring to Mickey Shuler, Sr.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
jordan wouldnt have missed that reverse
June 5th, 2008 at 10:16 PM
Although Mickey Shuler, Jr is fast becoming a crowd fav.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:16 PM
yes, bonehead statement on my part, Rex.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:16 PM
TBL, pre-order the Sex and the City blue-ray?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Rex…is he as talented as Dad??
June 5th, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Scottie Pippen was perfect for the triangle offense and his length and athleticism were incomparable during that time. Underrated, I say.

June 5th, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Play Rondo more Doc, you stupid fuck.
Cassell is d-u-n.
June 5th, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Cursed: Agree that Jordan could run past anyone and everyone then, but isn’t that what LeBron can do at this point? LeBron is just a freak of nature as Jordan was at his time (and not even at the prime of his game). Players in the league now are more athletic then they were then, but 37 ppg for the entire season. I don’t think anyone will ever come close to that again, just as no one will ever come with in a mile of Wilt’s 50 ppg. Every era is different, but this is not as far off with Kobe averaging 32 this year for the title
June 5th, 2008 at 10:20 PM
@clown, will I be rich now?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:21 PM
@ill
no, but you will now find Adam Sandler funny
June 5th, 2008 at 10:21 PM

June 5th, 2008 at 10:22 PM
TBL, what’s the comment record for one post?
June 5th, 2008 at 10:22 PM
Dr. C, I do agree about LeBron. The potential is all there. I’ve never said it wasn’t.

Watch Abre Los Ojos first, TBL. Way superior…
and no way is kobe better than jordan.. for one, jordan never played with a big man who had a post up game like pau..
