NBA Finals: Why Isn’t Anyone Using the Sky Hook?
NBA June 5th. 2008, 4:30pmWatching all these Lakers/Celtics 1980s games on ESPN Classic has us wondering: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA career was extended by at least four years thanks to the robotic consistency of the indefensible sky hook. When the Lakers captured the title in the Garden in 1985, Brent Musburger asked the lithe Jabbar – the series MVP, averaging 30 points per game – whether or not he’d be coming back for a 17th NBA season at the age of 38. Cap would play four more seasons, averaging double-figures in each of them.
If Dwight Howard develops one, can he play 20 seasons? Shaq has a baby hook, but uses it sporadically at best. He’d probably have to shed at least 50 pounds and incorporate a sky hook to milk out another three seasons. Will Tim Duncan learn one?

I finally saw Semi-Pro last night with Will Ferrell. It was a terrible movie, but I liked it. Funny introduction of the alley oop!

Too finesse.

After Roy Hibbert learns the hook, he will be the bestest center – EVAR!

Howard has developed something that resembles the beginning of a sky hook, but ends in an earth shaking dunk. A thing of beauty to be sure.

I cant see Dwight shooting a sky hook. Too soft of a move for a lean mean dunking machine like him.

Big Z uses the sky hook quite well.

List of things to improve for D-Ho
1) Not knocking up opposing teams cheerleaders
2) Free throwing shooting
3) Sky hook

Why no sky-hook? Probably the same reason Shaq refused to shoot FT’s “granny” style.

*free throw shooting

@clown- If Howard works on his free throws, he could be the leagues leading scorer. He gets to the line more than anyone in the game

If you’re going to be doing the sky hook then you’ve got to sport the goggles. That’s why. It’s not the sky hook, it’s the goggles. You’ve got to look deeper…

Tim Duncan’s patented shot is the kiss off the glass from the side of the lane.
Word has it, instead of a sky hook, he is working on three-point shots to further annoy Phoenix fans.

It’s not the 70s/80s anymore, people. Groupies don’t want to have coke-fueled orgies with some pussy who shoots a sky hook. And that’s what really matters.

TBL…are these the questions that you are pondering as you update you resume to send to the Gawker people?

The sky hook was only effective when the shooter is pushing the defender away like a Jesus of Latter day Saints leaflet with his off arm and the refs are on their knees swallowing more than their whistles (cough Kareem sucks).

@ Jack thats what its all about.

@ irish: Nevermind.

If D-Ho gets a sky hook and 80% on his free throws the magic would never lose a game…ever again
June 5th, 2008 at 5:40 PM
Yao would block D-Ho’s skyhook.

The Dream blocked Kareem hook-shot a couple of times…
But in Kareem early days THAT Shot was Ridiculous
(Just Ask WILT)… Or someone that knows Wilt Very Well
