Just a Guess, but ESPN Producers Have Had Enough of the Erin Andrews Worship
Baseball, ESPN, Video June 12th. 2008, 11:33amEmail, from a reader, at 9:23 this morning: “I like Sutcliffe, seems like a good guy, but if you can find it in the Cubs game last night Sut let his thoughts on Erin Andrews be known. It involved her outfit and the Windy City. His broadcast partner (O’Brien I think) quickly steered the conversation back to Sut’s battle with cancer.” So we yanked the video off Red Lasso and something became apparent: How quickly O’Brien and Sutcliffe veered off the topic of Andrews’ yellow dress.
This is fun frivolous stuff, but the score’s 7-0 and the spirits were dampened because Soriano had his hand broken a few innings earlier. We got a chuckle out of it. But how much did O’Brien want to steer the discussion away from Andrews? The look in his eyes said: “Uh-oh, we’re going to get reprimanded for this.” Again, just a guess.
As for Andrews … doesn’t that look like such a sweet gig?

June 12th, 2008 at 11:40 AM
it seems “sut” had to get going so the producers got the guys back at the subject at hand.
TRUST me, no one likes to pimp it’s own more than bspn.
June 12th, 2008 at 11:41 AM
the wordpress gods are sick of EA, not the bspn producers.

Sutcliff was looking for a little pre-chemo treat to keep him warm on those lonely days in the IV chair.
June 12th, 2008 at 11:43 AM
I saw that last night and thought nothing of it. Just banter, and if it involved EA that is allright with me.

Red Lasso is down more than TBL.
June 12th, 2008 at 11:44 AM
nothing is down more than TBL
ah, the “charmed” life of being at a one-stop shop.
Would i trade being owner and operator for just writing, like many of the other blogs? on days like this – which seem to happen frequently as the site grows – you’re damn right i would.

Do you guys think I’m the boy Erin was talking about?!?

TBL..I’d just have Hef take care of it…thats what I do
June 12th, 2008 at 11:58 AM
TBL, consider it a backhanded compliment that the server has been suckin’.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:07 PM
Sutcliffe is a creep. You could have wiped the drool off the side of his mouth. It’s comments like that – about the wind and her skirt and how players were probably watching her during BP that will continue to keep women out of sports broadcasting. He’s just an ignorant moron and while I wish him well as he undergoes treatment, I certainly won’t miss his dumb commentary.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:11 PM
what is with all the traffic today? TBL, you’re going big time!!
June 12th, 2008 at 12:34 PM
TBL, are the servers crashing because of increased traffic, or is it just shitty technology?
June 12th, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Erin Andrews post goes up, server goes down. coincidence?
June 12th, 2008 at 12:35 PM
a combination of both, friends. but we should be good.
but it looks like we’re about to move off our 3rd server in 2 years. ultimately, this is a good thing … except for the 47 people who emailed me pissed because they had to actually do work.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:37 PM

Sounds like someone just said, “Yes, I am interested in the Deadspin job.”

Everyone’s here for NBA Draft pick ‘em.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:41 PM
Sutcliffe is the man
June 12th, 2008 at 12:44 PM
Mike, that guy wrote that probably hoping that EA would stumble upon that site and profess her love for him. Either that, or he’s the boy EA was talking about, the very jealous boy
June 12th, 2008 at 12:48 PM
not for nothing, but didn’t pointing out how hot erin andrews is stop being cool or topical or whatever like six months ago? do people remark as to how fat chris berman is every time he’s on camera? some things are obvious enough without having to discuss them constantly. like my combination of boyish charm and rugged manliness.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Can anyone transcribe what was said for me? Redlasso hates me.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:51 PM
He said his new favorite color was yellow (’cause of her dress) and that he bet a lot of the players were looking at her during batting practice. Something like that.
Basically, he’s a huge creep.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:54 PM
What a douche missile. Can’t say I don’t want to see her outfit though.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:57 PM
I’m sure Shelley Smith and Pam Ward feel real sorry for EA.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
They weren’t changing the subject on the fly, that was all planned. I wish Sutcliffe all the best, but he’s AWFUL on telecasts.
June 12th, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Yeah, Sutcliffe is a douche. Erin Andrews is never objectified here.
June 12th, 2008 at 1:05 PM
dumb? perhaps.
accurate, yep.
vitale, herbstreit, musberger and lavin have all been guilty of drooling over her on the air.
June 12th, 2008 at 1:17 PM
Brent practically creams his suit every time he mentions her name.

Jimmy, you forgot about Pat White.
June 12th, 2008 at 2:36 PM
and bruce pearl.
June 12th, 2008 at 2:48 PM
Never heard of her.
June 12th, 2008 at 3:07 PM
Anyone else think Sut may have had a cocktail or two before/during the broadcast? Wouldn’t be the first time.
June 12th, 2008 at 3:11 PM
You could hear the dirty old man lust dripping from dave and sutcliffe.
And who’s this boy?! I swear it better be some Make A Wish action right there!
Although…last wish is EA in a yellow dress? How about a yellow bikini?
June 12th, 2008 at 6:05 PM
I lollerskated when I heard the Windy City line.
June 17th, 2008 at 1:19 PM
I don’t get it. I mean, he didn’t go full Ron Burgundy or anything. He was just letting us know sexy-time is aok.
And yes that was two dated pop-culture references in one comment.
