Will Jeff Van Gundy Mention the Donaghy Mess?
NBA June 12th. 2008, 6:06pm
Sadly, we don’t do pregame shows – that’s across the board: NFL, rehearsal dinners, red carpet at the Oscars – but it has been brought to our attention that ABC announcer Jeff Van Gundy didn’t bother mention the allege fixing of his 2005 NBA playoff game until halftime of Tuesday’s game. Can anyone verify that nothing was said in the pregame? Ah, who are we kidding – JVG is itching to coach again, and he knows that if he criticizes the league or the officials or David Stern, it’ll be a damaging blow to his chances. Which is why we’re still confounded as to why the Chicago Bulls felt compelled to pull the trigger and hire Vinny Del Fuego Negro.

JVG is also in bed with ESPN right now, which is another motivating factor as to why he didn’t say anything.

Did an interview with Mike Breen at halftime, you should really take this post down TBL. You’re only confirming Buzz Bissinger’s stereotype.

BMB – Yes, I mentioned halftime. What, you think that’s enough? A brief interview? He’s had two days to collect his thoughts. Hopefully, he can be eloquent tonight.

stan van gundy mentioned today on the le batard show that when these allegations came out his brother and 2 of his brother’s assistant immediately remembered a game in which doughaghy refereed that JVG had felt the outcome was “fishy” but stan wouldn’t tell what game..

JVG probably has been told to keep his mouth shut.

@tbl – you should definitely try and get an interview. Nothing better than hearing from a guy we’ve been dogging the whole playoffs. Maybe we can get some insight into his constant felating of Kobe.

JVG is no puppet! if he wants to say something he will!

If JVG does say something…his next gig will be on SNY.

I think you’re fishing here, TBL. That halftime interview was succinct and pretty much summed up his thoughts. He did say he felt he was right and didn’t toe any company line (and I really doubt that there was one in the first place, but thats just me). What would you rather have him do, go on a 10 minute rant?

I was half-watching PTI the other day while reading a magazine, when I heard Wilbon mention Vinny del Negro and nearly spewed my pop all over my lap.

If JVG dares to mention it, I think David Stern would have him coaching the Siberian Express when the NBA Expands to Europe.

In Game 3 you almost got the feeling a memo went out to NBA and ESPN staff to stress that “the aggressors” get the foul calls. That word was used so much, especially while Kobe was marching to the FT line. I’m stretching here… or am I?
It’s funny to watch the media and even Stern address all this… they’ve got all the telltale signs of lying as far as facial expressions go.
