High Drama in San Diego: Live-Blog Continued (Updating – Sudden Death)
Golf June 16th. 2008, 3:55pm
Bananas, folks. Rocco pulled his drive out of the fairway, and it may have landed in the bunker. Imagine the fear – Tiger eagled this hole two days ago, which means Rocco could salvage a par, and he’d end up losing.
Tiger grips it and rips it … into the fairway, otherwise known as Eagle territory. They’re calling this one of the greatest US Opens eva. Sometimes hyperbole will creep into telecasts – cough, JVG and Mark Jackson, cough – but this one’s been terrific. Rocco appeared to be doomed early on the back nine, but he clawed back like those pesky Pistons. There’s a damn good chance we could head to a one-hole, sudden-death playoffs.
Rocco gets out of the sand with ease, and he’s in the fairway. Problem is, if Tiger puts it on the green here, it’ll be terrible news for the old man with the quick wit. And really, do you expect Tiger not to plant this one 10 feet from the hole? As if it matters – he could chip the bitch in from 30 yards and still score an eagle … as Bill Raftery might say … ONIONS! Outstanding shot onto the green, and his leave is like a 20-30 foot putt. Rocco came up huge there, and it’s his to lose.
Longgggg putt attempt from Tiger … not even close. Wide ride and he overshot it for about three feet. Rocco hits this putt and he’s the champ.
They’re saying Tiger’s putt isn’t a gimmie, but he’s not bricking that. I think we’re definitely heading to overtime. Rocco’s got a slightly uphill putt … no. Wide left, not even close. Not quite a choke, though. So now if Tiger makes it and Rocco makes it, we’ve got overtime.
Tiger’s put doesn’t look terribly difficult, but he’s looking this one over as if it were the second move of a chess match. “You would not expect him to miss this” says the announcer, but as Tiger steps up to the birdie putt, a seagull flies overhead to disrupt things. Odd. An omen, perhaps? His father watching from above? Nah – his dad’s totally a robin. Tiger’s putt is good, and Rocco needs this one, or it’ll be a devastating loss. Rocco’s par-putt is from about three feet out.
Rocco’s putt is true, and we’re in double OT. They’ll take it to the 7th hole, winner take all.
4:16 – Updates will be few and far between because… well, the Romanians are restless today. Tiger is on the edge of the fairway and Rocco is in the sand (I think).
4:17 – Yup, Rocco is in the sand. Not to bad a lye/lie though. The shot he just hit into the grandstand though – that could be a problem.
4:20 – Tiger’s approach – “Get in the hole!” – is on the green. Ladies and gents, I think we have a winner.

Everyone and their mother must be watching this online…the video is moving with the speed of smell
June 16th, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Jesus… This is unreal drama.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:01 PM
Odds of Tiger making the eagle? 15-1? 10-1?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:01 PM
If Tiger puts this in…best putt ever?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:02 PM
Danny Noonan doesn’t think so
June 16th, 2008 at 4:03 PM
Close, but no.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:04 PM
if it weren’t for blogs, none us at work would know whats going on. fuck off Buzz!
June 16th, 2008 at 4:04 PM
If Tiger wins this I’ll be pissed, I’m sick of having him shoved down our throats.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:05 PM
The edge of my seat is nearly worn out.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Fucking “Billy Wagner” rears its ugly head when it counts…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:09 PM
fetch, just admit it. You hate all Cablanasians.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
Wow, I lost audio on the USOPEN.com feed, but gained video. Great couple of putts. Would have been a shame if Rocco missed.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
The back of fetch’s throat is about to be worn out because Tiger and his half-missing leg have got this…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:12 PM
OMG! Phil Mickelson just hit Tiger over the head with a chair! A real slobberknocker!
June 16th, 2008 at 4:12 PM
It’s a good thing they waited to play this later in the afternoon so people could watch it when they got home from work…
/end sarcasm
June 16th, 2008 at 4:13 PM
The espn360 feed is working absolutely pefect for me.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
If they can play about 5 sudden death holes ill get home in time to catch the end
June 16th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Yeah why is Tiger being shoved down our throats? He just wins all the time, stop covering it.
\Sarcasm.
Every male in my office, including the President just watched 18. Awesome.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:14 PM
imagine what the ratings could have been. way to go golf guys!
June 16th, 2008 at 4:17 PM
If TBL has server problems, I’m here for you.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
Holy Cow!!!!!!! Here we go…….
June 16th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
I work in a 30 story building and we have a TV/internet setup in the lobby. There were at least 25 people who came downstairs to watch 18, most of them sales people.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:19 PM
it’s too bad there’s no medium between the NBA, “Games will start no sooner than 9pm EST, regardless of please from the viewers to start even a half hour early” and the PGA’s, “Let’s play a playoff when no one can watch, except for people that work from home, housewives, and small babies.”
June 16th, 2008 at 4:19 PM
Tiger’s to win. Amazing day.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Rocco’s finished!!!
#14 for Tiger.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:20 PM
sportsgal, there are buildings with more than 4 floors?
/fetch
June 16th, 2008 at 4:21 PM
Golf nerds: is this better than Tiger’s showdown with Bob May in 2000? I say yes.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:22 PM
this is good
Rocco is falling apart
June 16th, 2008 at 4:22 PM
s1, absolutely.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:22 PM
yes, Better than Bob May
June 16th, 2008 at 4:25 PM
This is right up there with a Monkey humping a football in my book…and I love watching a monkey humping a football.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:25 PM
Rocco has a shot for par, but Tiger has 18 feet to finish it…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:25 PM
Yes, although they are different animals. Bob beat Tiger playing alongside him on Sunday instead of playing in front of him (not to take anything from Rocco.) Although the putts Tiger made on the 72nd in both events were the stuff of legends.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:25 PM
how many men working in an office, are actually working?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:26 PM
Oh hey thanks clown.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:26 PM
So, did tiger win?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
So glad I stopped watching… I seriously can’t handle another “Tiger is the greatest athlete ever” story. Greatest golfer ever? Yes. Greatest athlete ever? Fuck no.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
Rocco with one putt to extend it…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
WOW! Tiger came up 3 inches short and slumped to his knees. Clown, you can relate.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:28 PM
You GOTTA root for Rocco to drain this. To quote Jim Ross, “Don’t let it end this way! No!”
June 16th, 2008 at 4:28 PM
Tiger gets #14… What a gutty performance by both Tiger and Rocco. Call Rocco the People’s Champion… Call Tiger the GOAT.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:28 PM
TIGER WINS!!!!!!!!
June 16th, 2008 at 4:29 PM
sportsgal..before we bitch about overkill..lets actually enjoy the moment
June 16th, 2008 at 4:29 PM
Damn.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:29 PM
Thank you, Sportsgal.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:30 PM
Big shout out to The Money Line Journal guy for helping lose me some money this weekend.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Greatest athlete ever? Fuck no.
amen to that
June 16th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Tiger, you rule. kinda like Kobe.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
So glad I stopped watching… I seriously can’t handle another “Tiger is the greatest athlete ever†story. Greatest golfer ever? Yes. Greatest athlete ever? Fuck no.
For real, everyone knows Secretariat is the greatest athlete ever.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Rocco jumps 111 spots in the world rankings to 47. Nice move.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Rocco can always blame TBL for that image of Kendra staying in his head
June 16th, 2008 at 4:32 PM
Man, the last 15 minutes of the live-blog that are forever lost in the ether were fucking hilarious! Sorry you missed it. Ask a Romanian IT guy if you ever meet one.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:32 PM
Watched the whole thing and it was amazing. I was pulling hard for Rocco because he really is such a cool guy. Met him a while back. He put up a great fight. Damn shame he didn’t win, but he has nothing to be ashamed of. He gave Tiger all he could handle.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:32 PM
ran down to a bar to watch the end…that was pretty awesome.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:33 PM
For real, everyone knows Secretariat is the greatest athlete ever.
Richard Petty has something to say about that damn it.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:33 PM
Where’s the hate coming from? That was absolutely unreal. Dude doesn’t play a tournament in 7 weeks and wins the toughest test in golf.
His legend continues to grow, and I guess that’s why people hate. Can people not appreciate greatness when its happening directly in front of your eyes? The last 3 days of golf should be talked about for the next 50 years.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:33 PM
greatest athlete ever = pete weber jr.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:33 PM
best shit ever to get through a monday afternoon
June 16th, 2008 at 4:34 PM
seriously…boss invites the whole floor down to a bar to waste 45 mins. great shit.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:34 PM
@CRM
I saw it for second, then Billy Wagner sat on it.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:35 PM
He most certainly is the Greatest Athlete (Now) and quite possibly ever.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:35 PM
Rocco Mediate = Fraud
/TBL
June 16th, 2008 at 4:35 PM
greatest athlete ever: Doyle Brunson
June 16th, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Where’s the hate coming from? That was absolutely unreal. Dude doesn’t play a tournament in 7 weeks and wins the toughest test in golf.
His legend continues to grow, and I guess that’s why people hate. Can people not appreciate greatness when its happening directly in front of your eyes? The last 3 days of golf should be talked about for the next 50 years.
My thoughts exactly. I guess people are so used to oversaturation and hyperbole that when something really incredible DOES happen, people treat it no differently. This is the MJ flu game and MJ beating the Pacers in game 7 of the ‘98 Eastern Conference finals rolled into one.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Greatest athlete ever? You guessed it – Frank Stallone
June 16th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
Greatest athlete ever = Tecmo Bo
June 16th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
18 Majors
19 2nd place
46 3rd place
Jack Nicklaus will always be The GOAT of golfing
And unlike Tiger, He didn’t play against Wimps who shrink under pressure
June 16th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
CRM…Not only was Frank a great athlete..he was also a great singer…the ultimate double threat
June 16th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
How about – Tiger is the best an athlete has ever been at his respective sport.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:38 PM
@sterlin
You have to be kidding. Can he dunk? Can he run a 4.40 40? Can he run a sub 4 minute mile? There are sooo many things to “prove” athletic ability that he has not shot at. Don’t get me wrong he is amazing at what he does, but what he does is hit a little ball with a stick and that does not mean he is the best athlete ever.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:38 PM
Wayne Gretzky would like a word.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:39 PM
I wouldn’t qualify 2 people (somewhat understandably, we’re all entitled to opinions) feeling a little tired of non-stop praise as a huge amount of hate…
What you hatin’ on hate that ain’t there? You just looking for something to hate, I guess
June 16th, 2008 at 4:39 PM
11 of the 30 employees in my company were in the conference room watching on a 48 inch HD TV. Can’t beat that productivity.
As it ends, someone asks, “Who do we bill for this time?”
classic.
Oh and greatest athlete ever = that guy in your tuesday night co-ed bar softball that takes everything WAY too seriously.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:39 PM
So would Stone Cold Steve Austin.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:39 PM
Tiger’s gonna break Jack’s record for majors in the 3 or 4 years.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:39 PM
@CRM… That would be Jim Brown at Lacrosse
June 16th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
OK, so Tiger is really good at his sport, but it’s not really a sport and he’s not really athletic and there are other people who have played their sports just as well as Tiger Woods plays golf.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
Edwin Moses didn’t lose a race from 1977 – 1987.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
but does Tiger have Hansborough’s will and determination?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
The Rock > Stone Cold
June 16th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
ChiTown…i could take 30 minutes and 8 paragraphs telling you why you’re wrong but i won’t.
jack played in watered-down fields, you never saw guys like rocco mediate in contention. there was almost no international presence outside of seve ballesteros, gary player and a handful of brits. golf now would absolutely destroy golf back in jack’s era.
and last time i checked, 2nd place finishes don’t count as wins.

To add to your comment on GOAT… I think its this guy… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFzLuUzr8RQ
June 16th, 2008 at 4:41 PM
I think the problem with “The Greatest Athlete” is what are we defining as an athlete…if we use Maggs..literal thing I am sure some fucking decathlete is the greatest Athlete..is we are going for the looser version of that..more akin to a sportsman and competitor than we need to have Tiger in the mix…that’s why labeling someone greatest athlete is not a fair term we should stick to comparing people within their sport at least there is a comparable analysis
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
Stone Cold Steve Austin > Stunning Steve Austin
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
who cares? vernon davis can do all those things, but he still sucks at football.
golf is a sport, whether you like it or not…and MJ is still the greatest athlete ever, regardless.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
Excellent point. I’d love to see Tiger’s good knee vs. Hansbrough’s will in a decathlon.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
Are you people fucking insane? He had MINOR KNEE SURGERY 7 weeks ago, big fucking deal! This is golf we’re talking about, not football, basketball, baseball, hockey or soccer. I will give him the “Greatest Golfer Ever” title, but nothing more.
I seriously hate everyone today.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
Roman, you are absolutely correct. When I hear people say “Frank was the best crooner ever”, I just assume they mean Stallone.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
When they start allowing cameraphones in the gallery, then I’ll start considering “the greatest athlete evar” argument.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
@RWH: Plus the answer is just Jay Bruce
June 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
Why isn’t it good enough to just call Tiger the Greatest Golfer of All-Time? That’s a pretty amazing list of white men that goes back a long ways…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Will someone please get sportsgal her midol.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
jb just went there
June 16th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
@Wallys World: I’ve had guys call 3 seconds AND charges in the SAME pickup game. Needless to say I don’t go to that park anymore…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
Not that I give a shit about golf, but 2nd place finishes give an idea of how good someone is. Kind of like college coaches with Final 4 appearances.
So if Tiger isn’t even the best at his own sport, then he’s certainly the the best “athlete” ever.
For major sports, it’s Gretzky, Jordan and Ruth and that’s it.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
Same knee has had 3 surgeries, Sportsgal. He’s heading into Mark Schlereth territory.
Btw, Tiger just said this was his greatest tournament ever.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
wow, things escalated quickly.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
and a sock…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
No shit. I’m willing to create a Mt. Rushmore of athletes, encompassing whatever attributes, greatness, or sports you like, and he’s one of the four. The other three are Jordan, Ruth, and Gretzky.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
@spence… Mine was strictly off of compete-ing and in contention to win
I personally don’t have a problem w/ people saying Tiger is the greatest
He has truly earned whatever accolades that people Honor-him with
June 16th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
Sprotsgal..the guy walked 91 holes and played ultra competitive golf 7 weeks after knee surgery…its impressive…and before I die if I could her on song…it would be Frank singing Take Me Back…a do do do do..Take me Back
June 16th, 2008 at 4:46 PM

It was on my mind, but I know better…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:46 PM

June 16th, 2008 at 4:46 PM
@MikeNYC: SERIOUSLY? Babe Ruth? please tell me that was a joke…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:46 PM
Dumbest fucking thing ever said on television?
“How much of this she’ll remember first hand, we can’t say.”
She’s fucking 1, Bob
June 16th, 2008 at 4:46 PM
@sportsgal
I really agree with you. They are walking through some low cut grass, DAMN! so athletic. I think Tiger is the best golfer ever, noquestion, but I have never seen him run, jump or swim. I have seen him walk through very short grass many times though.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
really
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
Jermaine Jackson > Frank Stallone
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
who cares? vernon davis can do all those things, but he still sucks at football.
golf is a sport, whether you like it or not…and MJ is still the greatest athlete ever, regardless.
Golf clap for Spencer
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
or it tells you that he was facing incredibly thin fields.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
Philip Rivers had knee surgery then played in a football game in the same week, so I think he belongs on the sports Mt. Rushmore too.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
best ever football player: OJ Simpson
June 16th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
Yeah, Babe Ruth was terrible, I don’t know what I was thinking.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:48 PM
sportsgal- did you have money on Rocco?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:48 PM
Aren’t we all forgetting about TEBOW..
June 16th, 2008 at 4:48 PM
just don’t do that while Tiger is swinging, please

June 16th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
Good call guinnessgirl; Tiger wears Tebow undies.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
werd…
and for the record, jack is great. but tiger plays 16 events per year, jack played a lot more…more chances to end up that high.
they were both amazing, and it’s really just splitting hairs.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
come on MikeNYC we both know he was a great baseball player in an era which didn’t even allow an even field of competition. He would be your town’s garbage man in today’s world.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
Your right Mags and Lebron cant shoot -1 over 72 holes at Torry Pines…whats your point?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
Maybe not greatest athlete ever but certainly the most dominant player in the history of his sport.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:50 PM
Has anyone here ever golfed 18 holes 4 straight days and then 19 on the 5th? Then please don’t minimize how it’s probably hard to do in general, much less on a recently surgically repaired knee.
/opinion of a distance runner that runs 80-90 miles per week
June 16th, 2008 at 4:51 PM
+1 clown
Why can’t people make noises during someone’s backswing? Milton Bradley has to play the outfield while people pelt him with batteries and Tiger can’t handle a camera click?
Best athlete Kim Kardashian’s ass.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:51 PM
sparty- joke
June 16th, 2008 at 4:52 PM
irish, you had an argument though…
June 16th, 2008 at 4:52 PM
No, I didn’t lose any money on Rocco, I just get tired of having stories about the Celtics and Tiger and the Red Sox and Yankees shoved down my throat every two seconds. And I get really pissed off when I hear supposed sports “journalists” calling a golfer the greatest athlete ever. Give me a fucking break. Golf is the lowest sport on the “athletic” totem pole.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:52 PM

not saying it doesnt sicken me either, but the dude deserves it more than any other athlete today.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:54 PM
sportsgal you are being a hater.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:54 PM
Greatest athlete evar = Brian Boitano
June 16th, 2008 at 4:54 PM
Jack was a great golfer and could be a good guy for the game. Instead, he constantly complains about the advances in technology that he didn’t have. Remember when he broke out the wide toothed rakes at the Memorial, since he thought the players were too good from the bunkers?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:55 PM
Damn @Spence Killed-me with that Vernon Davis Smack-Down
June 16th, 2008 at 4:55 PM
I played 36 holes one day and it was pretty tiring, especially in florida during july. I couldn’t imagine doing 5 days worth with a jacked up knee without a cart..although the thought of winning money would be a great motivation..

Philip Rivers had knee surgery then played in a football game in the same week, so I think he belongs on the sports Mt. Rushmore too.
but Phillip lost.
and Ruth was not the best ever “athlete” in baseball. PUH-LEASE!
June 16th, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Neither is golf. There; I said it.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:57 PM
D-X > NWO
June 16th, 2008 at 4:57 PM
he complains because the great courses in american and scottish history are being rendered obsolete by technology. why should players shoot -20 every tournament? golf is a challenge, not a race, and jack is just protecting the integrity of par.
and the rakes were to keep golfers from bombing and gouging and playing “stupid golf.” bunkers are not a place to make a calculated miss, you have to think yourself around Muirfield, something the assholes at Augusta shouldve thought about instead of ruining their course with 500 unnecessary yards.
June 16th, 2008 at 4:57 PM
sportsgal,
what in your opinion determines the greatest athlete?
June 16th, 2008 at 4:58 PM
bruce jenner
June 16th, 2008 at 4:58 PM
@phat: exactly. I mean, I think it’s too much to say he’s the greatest athlete ever, but it’s also a bit much to sit here and act like it’s sooo fucking easy to play that much golf in 5 days. That could close to being as physically and mentally demanding than something like the NBA Finals, for all we know, with its crazy long TV timeouts and days between games. (I’m probably reaching here) But I mean, you’re lying to yourself if you think Tiger’s not athletic as hell. the dude’s in shape- have you seen his upper body?
/my first mildly gay comment
June 16th, 2008 at 4:59 PM
sportsgal-not to keep building an argument, but my minor shoulder surgery turned into me know being able to play baseball for 5 months. Everybody responds differently. I thought it was interesting that he said in his postround interview yesterday that he took a little something to alieviate the pain. I guess that’s cool in golf?
June 16th, 2008 at 5:00 PM
JB as long as your talking about 1997-1999 DX, not that lame ass version that came back a couple years ago.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:00 PM
I think the more important question to answer here is Who’s Now?
June 16th, 2008 at 5:00 PM
Phat, we have moved past that, we are trying to figure out Who is Titletown now.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:00 PM
Break the Walls Down!!!
June 16th, 2008 at 5:02 PM
nwilson,
one of the most famous HR in world series history, by kirk gibson, he was loaded on painkillers when he hit that.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:02 PM
please, Brooklyn Bralwer rules
June 16th, 2008 at 5:02 PM
Rocco Baldelli is a better athlete than Rocco Mediate.
1 man/5 tools/8 trips to the DL
June 16th, 2008 at 5:03 PM
I hate cursive and I hate all of you. I’m never coming back to school! NEVER!
June 16th, 2008 at 5:03 PM
damn. Sorry cbh, I won’t let it happen again.
@chicago: I’m with you. While we are here, I’d also like to laugh at anyone who says baseball and NASCAR arent physically challenging as well. With that said, it doesn’t mean you are a great athlete or even an athlete at all.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:04 PM
@1 Happy… OK you win this argument
No Athlete has EVER been through as much pounding as Kim K’s Ass
June 16th, 2008 at 5:04 PM
I will now root for Rocco Mediate in every golf event he plays in.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:04 PM
@sparty, but were in the steroid era, where you can’t drink a redbull and not be shunned.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:04 PM
@cbh yes thats the only D-X that matters.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:05 PM
but even with it as knowledge, does it change your mind about Gibby’s HR?
June 16th, 2008 at 5:05 PM
/fixed.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:07 PM
wait wait, which DX verison during that time, there were 2. with just HBK, HHH and Chyna, or DX with HHH, XPAC, and the New Age Outlaws?
June 16th, 2008 at 5:09 PM
Xpac…what a pussy
June 16th, 2008 at 5:12 PM
Oh yes, but only because I know how hard it is to hit a lowly 75-80 mph fastball after 3-4 pregame beers.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:14 PM
I would take the DX with Hunter and Shawn from that era, but I always have thought the heels were cooler than the faces.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:16 PM
I thought Kurt Angle was a great heel.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:18 PM
Thats why Stone Cold ruled. He was a face, but acted like a heel. Angle, though damn fine as a heel, was great as a face too, his goofiness was awesome.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:21 PM
nwilson, back to your surgery comment, are you as rich as Tiger with access to the greatest rehab facilities and doctors in the country? Because I’m pretty sure someone like Tiger Woods has the time and the money to focus entirely on rehab after minor knee surgery.
Golf is a mental game and requires skill, but it’s not on the same level as the four pro sports.
I can’t believe how many adult male commenters like wrestling.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:23 PM
Wrestling sucks.
I agree with you sportsgal about the athlete thing, but coming off of surgery in my mind after experiencing it, is a big deal. I never thought it was until last year. What Phillip Rivers did was amazing (even though I think he’s a complete waste of my time).
June 16th, 2008 at 5:24 PM
Hahah, sportsgal.
The greatest was that 97-2000 time period when wrestling was the new fad and everyone liked it. Kids were wearing wrestling shirts to school, and actually talking about it. For three years I was able to openly speak about it in public, then it was back to normal.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:25 PM
wrestling was my thing pre-puberty there was a of about 7 years of not watching it, and then in college i watched again.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:26 PM
cbh, you’re right, it was cool to like wrestling during that time. But the fact that people are listing names left and right AND know the wrestling terms “heel” and “face” is disturbing and sad.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:26 PM
yeah, little kids were giving out crotch shots all the time to each other….
June 16th, 2008 at 5:27 PM
sportsgal,
you know it all too, don’t try too hard to be elitist.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:27 PM
The Rock, Stone Cold and DX made wwf worth watching back in the late nineties.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:29 PM
don’t forget mick foley. the rock’em sock’em connection!
June 16th, 2008 at 5:30 PM
I watched when I was 13 for about a year, and then got tired of all the fakey mcfakey shit
June 16th, 2008 at 5:33 PM
Sparty, did you not see my balls-ripping comment? I will 300 your ass right off of TBL, I swear!! I’m not an elitist, but I sure as hell don’t know all of this wrestling shit.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:37 PM
jordan can’t be the best athlete ever, he couldn’t hit a curve ball.
June 16th, 2008 at 5:39 PM
Agreed. Wrestling stopped being fun when wrestlers became actors with real names and Hollywood aspirations. In the old days you cheered for the good guy and booed the bad guy.
/sitting in a rocking chair on the porch whittling
June 16th, 2008 at 6:15 PM

June 16th, 2008 at 10:26 PM
