The Lakers Need a Miracle (or two)
NBA June 17th. 2008, 10:29pm
We searched far and wide for the right photograph to capture halftime of game six of the NBA Finals, and this is what we came up with.
Do you believe in miracles?
Down 23, the Lakers will need a few force a game seven. As usual, the Lakers started strong, but quickly collapsed under the weight of the Celtics’ desire and Kevin Garnett’s clutchness. We recommend switching over to The Office. Michael is playing two women and Jim just told Pam he loves her. Great stuff.

Jim + Pam have ruined The Office.
I’m sorry but it’s true.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:31 PM
Damn, I was really hoping to kill 700 comments with a comeback.

TBL doesn’t trust Billy Wagner
June 17th, 2008 at 10:31 PM
Kobe needs to show up in the 2nd half, he actually looks scared. Garnett has been awesome, and what effort from Perkins.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:31 PM
oops
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
The greatest sporting event ever shouldn’t be compared with an NBA game.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Mike you damn fool, shut it
And Jim is dating Rashida Jones in real life? No way
for the record, the lakers have ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
TBL must have got a text message from Uzbekistandinova saying “Billy Wagner” was starting to smoke.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
i love the office jingle. i wish they would play more of that song.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Interesting fact – Doc Rivers has won a Coach of the Year award more recently than Phil Jackson. They each have 1.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
no way Mike, Pam and Jim were inevitable but it didn’t kill the show, I think it has worked
June 17th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
is this where we are talking about the Manuel/Reyes fiasco?
June 17th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
Kobe doesn’t look scared. I love how people assign emotions based on results. I also loved that Bill Simmons ripped on the Lakers for not helping their teammates up, which was a complete misnomer. They helped Fisher up when he dove for the ball out of bounds. I guess people just see what they want to see.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
BottomlessChips, that was not a Mama Rosa’s. This is the doughy goodness that is. Cover it in Sriracha and life is gooood.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
CRM, someone else had mentioned that.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
I’ll talk about it JWM – WTF happened? Caught him leaving the field
June 17th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
when the hell did Kobe turn into T-Mac?
bailing out the defense by shooting a whole hell of a lot of 3s and jump shots…
June 17th, 2008 at 10:33 PM

June 17th, 2008 at 10:35 PM

June 17th, 2008 at 10:35 PM
Grunge, what else is Kobe seriously supposed to do? There are three guys waiting in the paint.. he’s hitting his guys. They’re not making shots.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:35 PM
Why doesn’t Jalen Rose get more air time – dude knows his stuff.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:35 PM

BILLY WAGNER… it’s alive!! IT’S ALIVE!!
June 17th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
it pains me, but yes Jalen is better than anyone else other than Greg Anthony on the WWL.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Jason Witten > Jeremy shockey
June 17th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Andy’s debut was a strong one. What a dork.
Did i mention Rashida Jones is the hotness? I can’t believe she doesn’t have her own show. Gorgeous
Michael: “Can you tell who’s gay and whose not?”
DWIGHT: Of course.
M: What about oscar?
D: Absolutely not.
M: Welllll, he is.
D: Well, he’s not dressed in women’s clothes, so …
M: There could be others, I need to know.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
The only thing more surprising than a Lakers’ comeback would be if Mike Tyson showed up in the Celtics’ championship photo.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:38 PM
santana looks like he misses fried cheese curds…
June 17th, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Kevin Boss > Jason Witten
June 17th, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Kobe has definitely run out of gas, guys. With the breakneck pace of the NBA playoffs, I’m surprised he’s even alive at this point.

I hear ya Sparty – Greg Anthony is good too. I miss Kevin Fraser he was a good host for NBA 2nite or whatever they call it now.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Greg Anthony… the starting PG of the Greatest College Basketball team ever
June 17th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Rashida Jones had a show. It was kinda/sorta/a little funny.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
What’s the over/under on number of drinks TBL has had so far tonight?
June 17th, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Nick P, we got it the first time!
June 17th, 2008 at 10:41 PM

take a diffent angle…
actually use a pick…
why does he have to settle for 26 ft shots…?
but yeah, his teammates aren’t helping.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:41 PM
I never watch the Office episode in any order, i just catch them when they are on. I had never seen the casino episode and that puts this episode in a lot more context. i never knew this was andy’s first episode.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:41 PM
hawk – just three. if the game were good, more.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:42 PM
ChiTown- Greg Anthony graduated wayy before 2008
June 17th, 2008 at 10:42 PM
huh, I would have guessed higher. The Office lines skewed me.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:42 PM
I think not
June 17th, 2008 at 10:43 PM
Look at Kobe yelling at his teammates and shaking his head! Just embarrassing!
Wait, none of that is actually happening? I’m sure someone will say it did tomorrow..
June 17th, 2008 at 10:43 PM
The Cavs put up more of a fight against the Spurs than the Lakers are doing tonight
June 17th, 2008 at 10:44 PM
@fetch: 2008? That Buckeye team only won the NIT. If that’s your favorite, I can’t fault you. I’ll just chalk it up to youth, but there’s been better Bucks squads.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:44 PM

I thought 1999 Duke was the best ever. Wait, they lost the National Championship game?

June 17th, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Oscar: Dwight, no one else in this office is gay!

ugh, mark jackson. any GM would actually say, “all I gotta do is bring in 2 All-Stars to play with my other All-Star and I got a shot.”

Nick P, you don’t like Kobe. We all get it. Fortunately Kobe will help your boy LeBron get a golf medal this summer, instead of settling for the LeBronze!

June 17th, 2008 at 10:56 PM
So is anyone thinking Bynum would have made a difference in this series? I actually don’t. He would have brought them shot blocking in the middle..but it doesn’t solve the problem of perimeter defense or breaking the Celts down off the dribble. But who knows?
June 17th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
So have we nailed down a day for this summer when Kobe’s teammates are filmed in a parking lot asking for a better “next Jordan?”
I’ll say July 17th.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:57 PM

June 17th, 2008 at 10:57 PM

No way, sparty. The Rock, Stone Cold. 3 face of Mick. First DX. Bedpan McMahon. Taker and Mankind in Hell in a Cell. You are out of line, good sir!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:25 PM
Ray Allen and his sexy 3’s….that must be a playoff record for sure
June 17th, 2008 at 11:26 PM
When I was a kid, I went to my first wrestling show at the Richmond Coliseum. The only match I remember was Paul Orndorff and Jimmy Snuka vs. Paul Jones and Baron Von Raschke.
Christ I’m old.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:26 PM
AWA -
Yep. You are right. AWA = The Von Erichs (sp?). We got that on replay on some weird station at odd times. I believe all the Von Erichs are dead.
Diesel – Is he really? The Bears are fuked.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:26 PM
@clown: Sable, Val Venis, Mark Henry, …
June 17th, 2008 at 11:27 PM
Most true wrestling fans will tell you that the NWA was the best actual wrestling product, which is funny b/c it’s all fake, so who cares which actually “looks” more technical? The end of the Hogan era and the middle of the Bret Hart era was the real golden era in wrestling, IMO.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:27 PM
@clown
dont forget Kai En Tai trying to chop off Val Venis’s penis
June 17th, 2008 at 11:27 PM
But you saw the same guys fighting each week, or at least each month. You had a 3-4 month build to see guys go at it.
Lets not forget the number 1 reason the WWF as it was still called back then was better during those years: Miss Elizabeth, no one was ever better.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Hello, ladies!!!!!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:28 PM
Sparty, sadly you are correct. The show: “It’s Your Move”
Jason Bateman and his buddy “Eli” booked a huge band for their school and when they failed, they did a show using marionette skeletons playing instruments and I wanna say they played something like Shades of Grey.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Thats why Ric Flair going to the WWF was such a big deal.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
I can’t believe people actually watch wrestling
June 17th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
@sparty
Missy Hyatt didn’t do it for you?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
I can’t believe I started wrestling talk. My apologies to anyone not talking wrestling now.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
I’ll give someone my TBL guest post if they kill the next person to talk about wrestling.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:30 PM

June 17th, 2008 at 11:30 PM
I hate to interrupt the wrestling post here, but this is embarrasing for the lakers…play some defense
June 17th, 2008 at 11:30 PM
@Rex
at least you didn’t start NASCAR talk
June 17th, 2008 at 11:30 PM
I’m calling it right now. Celtics win. Book my it.
Anyone know the vig on this action?

June 17th, 2008 at 11:31 PM
Cursed -
The WWF had a more polished product. No doubt. The NWA had more completely absurd storylines. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It was all about entertainment. Remember the Saturday night TNT one hour shows. It was in some studio with about 24 audience members. Four Hoursemen. Arn Anderson. Tully Blanchard. Ric Flair. Dusty Roads. The Garvins. That’s where Hawk and Animal came out of. I’d rather be watching that than this piss poor excuse for a basketball game right now.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:31 PM
I haven’t watched any of the game. Has KG been pounding his heart a lot? Is he dominating in a blowout? Can we call him overrated yet? Is the answer to all three (now four) questions yes?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:31 PM
After his little vacation, Hef only likes the luchadors.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Elizabeth was hotter than all the chicks even when she was much older than all of them. She was hot as hell when she was in the NWO.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:32 PM
I would be embarrassed if I were a Laker fan right now. They need to at least put up a fight… This is awful.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Slurred typing… Book it + Book my bet = Book my it.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Whoa. Why the fuck does Hefler get a guest post?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
so is anyone actually watching the game anymore?
/searching desperately for Kobe on TV …wasn’t he supposed to be doing something tonight?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Hi. I’m a recovering crack head. This is my retarded sister that I take care of. I’d like some welfare, please.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
you can go ahead and call him an nba champion…the lakers should be dropped to the D league for how they’re letting this game finish…fuckin embarrasing
June 17th, 2008 at 11:33 PM
I believe it was offered in lieu of paying me my $30 itunes card for kicking the shit out of TBL in a bet.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:34 PM
We must be approaching Rosh Hashanah.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Ouch. TBL can’t come up with a $30 iTunes card?
CLICK THE ADS PEOPLE!!!!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Remember when the Celts looked helpless against the Hawks?? WOW!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:35 PM
By the way, Papa Shango was one of the coolest gimmicks ever! He had the power to start a fire in the middle of the ring, and turn the lights out in the arena!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:35 PM
remember when everyone though kobe was the best player in the league…
June 17th, 2008 at 11:35 PM
The D-Wade/Chuck commercials still don’t get old…
“Yo, D. I need some of those soft comfy NBA socks for my footsies…” Great stuff.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
That’s in September, dick. And I’ll have a lot of people to apologize too before I get right with the big 3 letter upstairs. I might have to set up a 1-800-OOPS-JEW like Stephen Colbert only you call me for an apology. That could work brilliantly.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
Sparty, I still do. It’s not like LeBron looked any better against the Celts.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
just forming some posts for tomorrow, that’s all
June 17th, 2008 at 11:36 PM
And we could play that game all day long. Remember when Duncan was the best player in the league? Oh yeah, he lost in 5 games to Kobe.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:37 PM
@cursed
then a few years later, he had the power to make all the local hos climb on board his train
June 17th, 2008 at 11:37 PM
By the way, if anyone wants to help me celebrate this year, I could use a new shofar.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:37 PM

“Elizabeth was hotter than all the chicks even when she was much older than all of them. She was hot as hell when she was in the NWO”
Most certainly. And she is dead now. Jimmy Garvin and her loved the smack and heroin. I had many a midnight dream about Miss Elizabeth.
–
And yeah, hijacking a NBA thread is bad voodoo. A thousand apologies. But, this game sucks. ANd Boston wins again. Here’s a tip to Wahoo McDaniels and I’m done with the wrastling talk. Enjoy the rest of this bs game.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:38 PM
Night Man, sneaky and mean
Spider says in dreams, “I think I love you”
You make me want to cry, you make me want to die
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you Night Man
Every night you come into my room and pin me down
With your strong arms you pin me down
And I try to fight you
You come inside me
You fill me up
And I lay calmly
Night Man
June 17th, 2008 at 11:38 PM
they could have done the ‘hey hey hey, goodbye’ chant in the 3rd quarter
why’d they wait until now?
And why does DOC have his stars on the floor up 37? Somebody’s asking to get hurt
June 17th, 2008 at 11:38 PM
The best player in the league doesn’t disappear from Finals games. He might shoot poorly, but he doesn’t pull a “Milk Carton Picture” game. 24 was absent after the first 14 minutes of this game. Inexcusable. Almost as bad as mailing in the PHX game 7 game a few years back.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:38 PM
The Ho Train was nice.

June 17th, 2008 at 11:40 PM
well done Rex, But I prefer Day Man, he’s a champion of the sun you know?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Dude, Rosh Hashanah is a week before Yom Kippur. You spend the whole week apologizing and then on Yom Kippur you get right with that guy who lives on the clouds. And you blow a shofar. Which is cool.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:41 PM
I love Phil leaving his starters out there to make them pay for such a lousy performance. It’s kind of an FU for making me look bad.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:41 PM
the only interesting thing, what the crowd will chant next… CHOWDA! CHOWDA! ERRRRRRA!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:42 PM
You realize that’s going to get fixed a lot, right?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:42 PM
They took you Night Man but you don’t belong to them.
They locked me in a room of darkness without your sexy hands
And I miss you Night Man, So baaadddd.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:42 PM
Wally, that’s such a ridiculous blanket statement. Do you remember LeBron last year against the Spurs? Do you? Everyone is entitled to have bad games and bad series… even the best player in the game.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:42 PM
where was this fire out of Odom in the 2nd qtr?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:43 PM
the game was still up in the air then TBL
June 17th, 2008 at 11:43 PM
If anyone has a problem with shofar blowing, they can come see me right now and I’ll set them straight.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Hey, English Major. It’s spelled, “chauffeur“.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:43 PM
What’s funny is, Kobe would have been better off having his team lose with him playing well in a prior round. Now for some reason, his “legacy” will be tarnished b/c of this series. Which is laughable.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:43 PM
I dont know whether to be happier that the lakers (lower case intentional) are being embarrassed, or that basketball is finally over and we can start the countdown to training camp…….
June 17th, 2008 at 11:44 PM
If anyone has a problem with shofar blowing, they can come see me right now and I’ll set them
straightStrahan.June 17th, 2008 at 11:44 PM
And like I said, looks like I was absolutely right about the Lakers supporting cast. Way too soft, way overrated, and can’t defend. Sure they can all score in regular season games when nothing is on the line.. they were lucky Kobe carried them to this point.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Kobe goes to high five Odom after he misses a free throw while they’re down 33. Damn, he’s a terrible teammate.
/using small sample sizes to critique how good of a teammate Kobe is.
//exact opposite of what others do to critique how bad of a teammate he is.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
anyone who thinks kobe is the best in the game after tonight needs to reconsider…like wally said the best in the game dont completely disappear and get beat by 40 points to bow out of the finals…and not to beat the dead horse but can you even imagine jordan getting beat by 40 in the finals in a deciding game?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
cursed – it’ll be alright. The Lakers will still probably win at least 2 of the next 4 titles. They have a good base.
This year was a total anomaly for the Celts. None of the big 3 got hurt like they usually do.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Don’t strain your arm patting yourself on the back.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
@wally… You are So Correct. He didn’t lose in the Finals with
The BULLS!!!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Did you see that defeatist look on Kobe with his team down 30? What a bad teammate? Jordan would never act that way down 30!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
per JeffJax and Wally:
losing in 6 > getting swept
June 17th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Am I the only one who thinks the NBA should eliminate at least half the timeouts for each team….
June 17th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Jordan would never
act that waybe down 30 in a Finals game!June 17th, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Jeff, when did Jordan’s teammates play that badly? When? It’s a bogus argument. They freaking played unbelievably. Can you imagine Pippen turning the ball over like Gasol and Odom.
Did Jordan’s Bulls ever play a team like that? With PP playing the way he did and Ray ALlen not missing and KG dominating inside and out?
June 17th, 2008 at 11:47 PM

LeBron > Kobe
/Yeah, I said it.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
@ cursed- I was just going to say everything you did. I’m the biggest MJ fan out there, but shit, he never played a team this good in the finals. AND his teammates were never EVER this fucking terrible.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
The guy on the Celtic logo > Kobe tonight
June 17th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
@cursed… Do you really think that Allen would light-up Ron Harper and Pippen would Straight CRUSH Pierce and MJ is Un-checkable
June 17th, 2008 at 11:50 PM

Good for KG, Allen, Paul Pierce, PJ Brown and all the old guys who didn’t have a ring.

I feel really good right now. It’s weird. I rooted against this team all year. I’m happy for KG, Allen and Pierce.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:06 AM
cursed –
My point is that when LBJ sucked last year against the Spurs or this year against the C’s in the 1st round, everyone knew he sucked because he was at the forefront of the game from tipoff to buzzer. Ditto for any other great player.
Tonight (and in that Gm 7 against the Suns), Kobe disappeared. He was a non-entity. He had virtually nothing to do with the outcome of that game. That should NEVER happen with the best player in the league, EVER. A bad game can happen. Letting the game go without getting in it is unacceptable.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:07 AM
NEW POST
congrats to the celtics
