Yardwork: Chris Rose Is Mentioned in this Post

Indians 7, Dodgers 2
C.C. Sabathia guaranteed FSN’s Chris Rose a home run Saturday, and the big block of cheese came through in the third inning with a solo shot. He also came through with 10 strikeouts in seven innings, but couldn’t reach a decision on the outcome of the game (*clever*). In the 11th, Cleveland had six singles, two walks and a sac fly to secure six more runs and a victory.
Cardinals 9, Red Sox 3
Dice K gave up seven runs in 1 full inning in his return from a rotator cuff strain, walking three and yielding six hits. Troy Glaus hit a second inning grand slam off reliever Chris Smith; he’s posted eight homers and 15 RBI in his last 20 games. By the way, I mentioned yesterday that the Cards Friday night win “salavaged the series”, and that’s only because I figured getting one win in Boston with their present lineup would have been acceptable.
Reds 6, Yankees 0
Cincy has taken the first two of the series after the Yanks had won seven straight. Brandon Phillips had two RBI and two hits for the Reds, and 22 year old Daryl Thompson made his debut with five shutout innings, hours after ending up in Brooklyn thanks to some faulty subway navigating. With Thompson, Volquez, Bailey and Cueto, the Reds have plenty of young arms for Dusty Baker to ruin.
Angels 6, Phillies 2
Vladimir had two homers, and Erick Aybar had one as well. I’m wondering why Erick feels compelled to add the extra consonant to his name. Is he really that special? E-R-I-C or E-R-I-K is not only accepted, it’s the norm. But E-R-I-C-K? What audacity.
Brewers 3, Orioles 2
This is a fun interleague series, and one that had no national interest when the schedules were created: two young teams, two teams fighting to stay in postseason contention, and two teams with ties to St. Louis. The Orioles, of course, were once the St. Louis Browns and the Brewers were victims of the 1982 World Series at the hands of the Cardinals. Interestingly, I’m writing this from St. Louis and let me tell you, that Arch is AWESOME.

So now Boston is looking to salvage the series today, right?
