The Roundup: Kobe Hits Cabo, A Point Guard Raps
Baseball, College Basketball, ESPN, End of Days, Media Gossip/Musings, Music, NBA, Race, Video June 24th. 2008, 7:59am
Every night Ivanovic wins at Wimbledon, we’ll open with a photo of her … instead of discussing the LA Times thing further, simply do a google blog search and you’ll see some interesting takes, including someone who wrote something that looked on-point, but then deleted it … Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr sunbathing somewhat topless qualifies as NSFW … Latin players are all over MLB, but where are they in the college World Series? … horribly gross and very sad … we should know about our second livechat tomorrow, and it may happen Thursday, or we’ll push it until after the holiday …
TJ Ford, probably on his way out of Toronto. (My Hog Town)
DMX, arrested for not having a valid driver’s license. (Miami Herald)
Tennessee’s new point guard, straight outta juco, is not half the rapper Shaq is. (You Tube a reader may have seen it at Loser with Socks?)
ESPN’s Jemele Hill talks about the whole Hitler/Celtics thing. (Fanhouse)
So who is the better D-lineman on the FOX NFL pregame set, Michael Strahan or Howie Long? (SI)
Kobe in Cabo with his wifey, whose backside is looking Kardashianesque. (Faded Youth Blog)
Arizona recruit Brandon Jennings apparently is quite serious about Europe. (CBS Sports)
The Dutch are preparing for end of days in 2012 – we mentioned this in November – so start stockpiling the reserves now. (UPI)
Tiger tried to party in Vegas, but his knee wouldn’t hold up. (NYDN)
Evan Longoria or BJ Upton might have jumped on this. (Rays Index)
Happened late last week and never got around to it: Johnny Lee Miller having to apologize for his comments about Rocco was a sad state of where this country is. Yup, went there. If we say Tavaris Jackson looks like our exterminator or Adam Morrison our plumber, is that wrong? (Orlando Sentinel)

TBL – Don’t care to spend a great deal of time on this again today, but…where was the post you speak of? I’m just interested, and don’t have time to page through all of the google results.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:09 am
“And foreign players often lack the appropriate transcripts, grades and test scores”, and ummm, don’t speak english, kind of important for college.
If your wife’s ass is that big, I’m pretty sure its legal in California to bang a cheerleader.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:09 am
tbl – i’m with 412, don’t have a lot of time today to find what you were speaking about. can you point us in the right direction?
June 24th, 2008 at 8:25 am
I think if you’re Kobe its legal to bang a cheerleader, even if you’re wife’s ass looks like this, http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTb_lS52BIgJAAYJyJzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTBwdnA4NGZ2BHBvcwM1BHNlYwNzcgR2dGlkA0kwMDFfNzA-/SIG=1mksosbku/EXP=1214396626/**http%3A//images.search.yahoo.com/images/view%3Fback=http%253A%252F%252Fimages.search.yahoo.com%252Fsearch%252Fimages%253Fp%253Dbig%252Bbutt%2526fr%253Dyfp-t-501%2526ei%253Dutf-8%2526js%253D1%2526x%253Dwrt%26w=425%26h=321%26imgurl=cdn.ugoto.com%252Fpictures%252Fdoes%252520this%252520%252520%252520car%252520make%252520my%252520butt%252520look%252520big-0df.jpg%26rurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.ugoto.com%252Fpictures%252Fdoes%252520this%252520%252520%252520car%252520make%252520my%252520butt%252520look%252520big.html%26size=32.6kB%26name=does%2Bthis%2B%2B%2Bcar%2Bmake%2Bmy%2Bbutt%2Blook%2Bbig-0df.jpg%26p=big%2Bbutt%26type=JPG%26oid=b6df71016c5dbe3c%26no=5%26sigr=12qb44hoc%26sigi=12m2ead6q%26sigb=12ov3l0ct&tt=12643

+1… great morning comparison.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:27 am
Hardwood Paroxysm with a good read. I’ll try to find what you guys seek.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:30 am
The Johnny Miller issue is proof that things are haywire. I heard his comments on NBC, and thought nothing of them. Miller was just trying to say Rocco is an “everyman”, not an Italian incapable of playing high level golf.
Just ridiculous. I think sometimes people complain just to make the news.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:31 am
GYD – Indeed.
in defense of Kobe’s wife, she has had two kids
June 24th, 2008 at 8:32 am
I heard the Johnny Miller quote while watching live and it never crossed my mind it would be considered racist. Almost like the Imus remark made about Adam Jones when he asked what color he was, and when his producer said he was black, Imus said, “Well, there you go.” But Imus was referring to why the media was blasting him all the time and not because he was black and in trouble.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Strahan is on the FOX pregame show? Damn, missed that news. I’m not anti-Strahan (he’s a closeted homosexual, but people’s personal sexual preferences are nobody’s business but their own!), but was perfectly fine with the group they had. And, I do think Howie Long was a better player.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Kobe’s wife:
$8+ Million ring = Taking-it in the Butt on the regular
June 24th, 2008 at 8:37 am
I wish Johnny Miller would have released a statement saying: “Give me a fucking break. Grow up you idiots. I didn’t say anything wrong.” Or something to that effect. One day that is going to need to happen. Someone is going to have to stand up for common sense and not apologize for any statement they make that might rub someone the wrong way.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:38 am
I’m pretty sure Adam Morrison and Randy Johnson changed the oil in my car this Saturday.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:39 am
I hope that woman is a better tennis player than Kournikova, I could use some more of those pictures.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Johnny Miller,
Have you lost your goddamned mind?
/Will Leitch
June 24th, 2008 at 8:42 am
I can’t speak for The412, but I know for sure that Randy changed my brakes yesterday. I think I saw Morrison at the carlot across the street. He plays basketball well but he can’t sell cars for shit!
June 24th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Here’s a simple yet poignant take on the situation. Me and Pedro Down By the Ballpark
June 24th, 2008 at 8:47 am
that’s the one – you can see his original take (which appears to have been deleted on a google blog search). Oh, and i saw the Dan Shanoff “take” too. If you can call one line a take.
I haven’t heard from that guy in ages. We used to swap emails all the time – seemed like a nice fellow – and then the SI thing came out and he vanished. Not a word from him since.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Maybe he’s a proponent of gun control.
/clown, where ya been?
June 24th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Toronto would be tough next year if that trade worked out. A healthy Jermaine O’Neal with Mr Cottenelle Tissue. That is a scary combo right there
June 24th, 2008 at 8:52 am
Next time you mix “topless” and “NSFW”, I expect to see some decent size boobies. Thank you.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:52 am
The Shanoff “take” could have been summed up in two words: me too! Great writing, Dan. You actually make a living at this?
June 24th, 2008 at 8:53 am
@CRM: clown and RexKramer are vacationing in San Fran together. they said something about going shopping.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Made true
June 24th, 2008 at 8:56 am
No comments about the ‘end of days’ tag?
Movie post and political post coming later
apologies in advance
June 24th, 2008 at 8:58 am
are you insinuating you can wipe your ass with Chris Bosh?
June 24th, 2008 at 8:59 am
@TBL – Since Jesus likes to read and post on here, I hope he gives us a heads up on when the Rapture is going to be. In this case, Jesus > The Dutch.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:59 am
A political post and a movie post in one day? Have you lost your goddamned mind!?
June 24th, 2008 at 8:59 am
No apologies needed, TBL. It’s your fucking blog. Post whatever the hell you want.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:00 am
This is Dan Shanoff’s awesome response to it. Must have taken him all freakin day…
June 24th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Shanoff = More irrelevant than [something irrelevant].
/Don’t feel like thinking.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:02 am
TBL – when you post your movie review…does that mean that I should assume it’s the same opinion that Will Leitch and Dan Shanoff have? You are the Deputy Speaker for all sports blogs.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:03 am
@nick p,
it’s ok…thats about the same effort shanoff puts into his blog.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:03 am
On the “Me and Pedro Down by the Ballpark” post…anyone know how to find the cached version?
June 24th, 2008 at 9:05 am
@spencer- screamin A called him that during the Orlando series
June 24th, 2008 at 9:06 am
@atl: No, no, no. You’ve got it backwards. Leitch is the Blogfather (brilliantly coined by hef) so if TBL writes it, he has already run it by the Editor himelf.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:07 am
I don’t know if his comments are on a different site or what, but he has a grand total of 0 on his last 5. Shanoff is the man.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:07 am
It’s not cached, atl. It was deleted too fast.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:08 am
I should clarify – not technically a movie review, but rather a “discussion” (read: Poll)
I still, however, find it odd that people hate Vanilla Sky. I vowed to one commenter I’d see the original before doing a post on it. Fact: I had just moved to New Jersey out of college and i went to see this movie, solo, on like a Tuesday night. I think i went just to see Penelope Cruz, which is obvious, and i ended up really liking the movie.
as for 2012 … will don imus still be employed?
June 24th, 2008 at 9:09 am
I think Shanoff’s is confusing a blog with a Twitter feed.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:11 am
@TBL: Do you find the end-of-days guys and messiahs interesting? I think they’re fascinating. Nightline had a program about the Siberian messiah. And ABCNews.com had a slideshow of the self-proclaimed saviours. I’m thinking about becoming one myself.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:12 am
Vanilla Sky could’ve used more Cruz, and much less Cruise.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Shanoffs blog was attacked by a bunch of guys who were pissed when he didn’t link up to him. Shanoff promised he would link to anyone that linked to him. He broke that promise so they went after him. They would rail against him constantly, and posting such things as Easterbrooks TMQ and entire books from the Bible. which on Blogger would interrupt any discussions on his posts. So he eventually locked the comments, and an offshoot site was created for his commenter’s, and you needed approval like you do Deadspin. Now with him working for the TSN, it makes it even more of a clusterfuck.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I’m baffled as to who actually listens to Don Imus when there are so many better choices of things to listen to in the morning: Zoo Crew FM Djs who ‘rock’, NPR, car horns… I’m not joking. Those are all better choices than Imus’ dentured, slurring vocal hackery.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:18 am
To be fair, The Daily Quickie was a must read.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Only. If. There. Was. Nothing. Better.
Now. TBL’s. Round-up. Is. The. New. Morning. Must. Read.
/Shanoff impersonation…
June 24th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Also, only 13 days until we either destroy the earth or probably find the “God Particle” with the Large Hadron Collider!
Plan accordingly.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Thanks for the Cliff’s Notes
guess this is what i miss when i don’t read other blogs regularly.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:24 am
dan shanoff is a jerkoff of the highest order…his only real opinion is weather or not he needs to beat it to tebows Heisman highlights for the 1000th time
June 24th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Why spoil a good thing?
I can say that it won’t be this year, but at the rate you people are going, we are thinking about moving teh rapture up a few millenia. Oh, and don’t believe everything you read from Indo-cultures about the end of days.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:28 am
RE: messiahs
Pretenders, every last one of them. Not Chrissie Hynde good, either. Just wannabes.
Though to be fair, if I came back to the world at this time, I’d be locked up or on a reality show. I don’t know if that qualifies as progress.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Great film. I think a lot of people went into it completely ignorant of what it would be about and thought “Cruise and Cameron Crowe…Another feel-good Jerry Maguire movie!”.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Last comment (I have some, ahem, appearances to make this week. You get the idea – tacos, water stains, etc.).
I’m happy to see that the “blogosphere” quickly degraded to the High School cafeteria seating arrangement. It’s amazing that John Hughes was so prescient.
And Jason – stay strong, brother man. Don’t let the kewl kids get to you. Keep working out and stay focused on the prize. The TBL-mobiel is dying for a tape deck.
Click those ads, people! Even I was generous enough to click on the ads – which caused some problems with the IT staff since the Son of Man shouldn’t be looking at Chinese ladies, if you catch My drift.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:33 am
One more – I though that ring was a “I didn’t rape that white girl” gift.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:34 am
who is always sending links to Taylor Swift? She’s on the Today Show right now, if you care.
Also: Good call.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:35 am
I think people also didn’t like Vanilla Sky because it was confusing as hell to follow the first time.
After multiple viewings on HBO I finally understood and then liked it.
Imus won’t be employed by 2012 but I actually believe him this time. I heard his explanation and thought he was bull shitting but then actually listening to the tape I think he might be telling the truth. Either way he was an idiot to interject race into anything during the times we live in now.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:36 am
thats ancient history, kobe has been able to transition from “im sorry for adultery” to “i get to bang you in the butt now”
very impressive
June 24th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Awesome.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:43 am
Alas, my Doomsday-related comment about the Large Hadron Collider firing up is being moderated into irrelevance for multiple links…
June 24th, 2008 at 9:45 am
That. Writing. With. A. Period. After. Every. Word. Makes me want to track that douche bug down and stab him through the ear with an ice pick…you are not talented, your are not irreverent you are a filty rat stinking Hack cocksucker who always annoyed me.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:50 am
@August: when you get “comment awaiting moderation,” fire TBL an email and he’ll clear it up for you.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I can also help with comment related issues.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:54 am
TBL is usually busy working on policy for the rest of the ’sphere
June 24th, 2008 at 9:54 am
i always thought jesus had a sense of humor even though my grandmother did not.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:09 am
meh.. it was little too nerdy to try too hard for, I just have fascination with large-scale science experiments that have a small, but real, statistical chance of forming a black hole on the French-Swiss border… 13 days till it’s activated.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:18 am
What can I say – I love to laugh.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:20 am
I think the Discovery (maybe Science) channel is doing a couple of shows on the LHC. I also find it interesting, 6 billion, years of work, so we can see some “dark matter”, WTF is that and why does it matter. It seems very ridiculous and wasteful, hopefully we aren’t destroyed in the process.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:31 am
@coop: the idea is that it will physically confirm some of the principals of theoretical physics and massless particles… especially the Higgs boson “God particle”. It’s wild because the scientists are just like ‘well, lets do it and see what happens’.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:57 am
I was a very loyal ‘daily quickie’ reader. Very sad to see it go. Simple, short, and covered most everything the night before. Why that was stopped is beyond me.
@coop and augustwest, you have me interested. Thanks for filling the rest of my morning with worthless reading and puzzling.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:02 am
@ coop and augustwest. Ok, maybe not the rest of my morning because I don’t understand a word of that garbage. So basically they’ve suckered lots of people and organizations into giving them 5-10 Billion dollars to shoot off an electric thingy to see if it does something to something else that we can’t see? Nevermind I don’t really need to know. I’m sure it’d just piss me off if I did.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:11 am
5 minutes between interest and disgust, my work here is done.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:16 am
+1 coop… lol
June 24th, 2008 at 11:17 am
But if this stuff interests you guys and floats ur boat then good for you. I’m just getting a little unflattered by us spending millions to dig for dirt and ice on mars when our economy is in borderline trouble. Me and the cost of science are really starting to pull at each other lately.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am
I saw a program, read a few articles, thats as far as im interested. I get the gist of it but think its a waste. Those atrophysicists are full of shit if you ask me, they like to talk out their ass about universes billions of miles away like they’ve been there.
June 24th, 2008 at 11:28 am
RE: The movie post. If you say that you saw The Love Guru and liked it, I’m through here.
June 24th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Shanoff is just jealous because TBL has, you know, actual readers. I could launch a blog tomorrow and have more readers than that guy inside of a week. No, seriously. His site’s alexa is in the 300k range, which means he basically visits his own site and maybe once a week a relative will stop by. I bet when he left ESPN.com he thought he’d launch a blog and be the next Bill Simmons or something. I used to enjoy The Daily Quickie when he wasn’t playing instant historian, but what a loser to comment on this whole situation as if he’s relevant.
June 24th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Oh, and about Johnny Miller, at first I was shocked he would apologize because he’s such a straight shooter (I used to golf against his son in high school all the time – the guy is just no bullshit, exactly like he is on TV). Then I realized he probably went, fuck it, not worth the trouble – apologize and move on.
