It is? He’ll be 31 when the season starts, he averaged 3.5 ypc in 2007 and 3.6 ypc in 2006, and he carried over 720 times from 2004-2005. In other words, he’s not breaking down, he has already broken down. He’s washed up.
Larry Johnson is next. I give him until after this season.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:48 PM
Mila Kunis ftw
July 7th, 2008 at 3:49 PM
tell me i am wrong, please. but someone just told me that the announcers for the NBA summer league are referring to the new Oklahoma City as the Bombers. this is way wrong.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:49 PM
he misses Willie Roaf and Will Shields…Brian Waters (Univ. of North Texas alum…WHOOHOO) can’t block everyone.
the next GM who gives a big money contract to any RB should be fired.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:49 PM
Chris Broussard, who started at the Plain Dealer, listed two teams in position to grab Maggette. Those two teams were New Orleans and Orlando.
Dont you think the Plain Dealer would read his stuff
July 7th, 2008 at 3:51 PM
i call bullshit. what a PR nightmare thatd be.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:53 PM
irish…PD probably just stirred it up themselves. we need all the good press we can get in cleveland, what with CC leaving and LBJ’s doomsday departure on the horizon.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:53 PM
Every team wants Maggette.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:55 PM
is “Bill Plaschke” the new super cute name for this bullshit excuse for a server?
not letting this go. how the hell can you make work days pass without a blog to look at every once in a while
July 7th, 2008 at 3:55 PM
TBL, no worries, no one takes Fox News seriously at this point.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:57 PM
@spence,
thats what i figured, that is why i am wanting confirmation.
July 7th, 2008 at 3:59 PM
I was waiting for the Olympics to say that Michael Phelps is the best athlete in the world, but alas Mike Freeman did it for me.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:00 PM
The New York Times would never be involved in any questionable reporting. That just doesn’t happen.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Has MikeNYC read the NYTimes article?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:01 PM
@fetch: or Katie Hoff…
July 7th, 2008 at 4:01 PM
I give Larry Johnson until October this year. The Chief’s have no QB and Herm is the coach. He’ll have 200 carries by the sixth game.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:03 PM
ah yes the ole ‘the nyt isnt clean either!’ rebuttal
defend this please which is the basis of the article
July 7th, 2008 at 4:04 PM
I read it, Rick. A bunch of limp-wristed journalists crying about not having their phone calls returned. Gripping stuff.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:06 PM
Fox News: where intellectual honesty, independent thinking and personal accountability go to die.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:08 PM
i will give foxnews some credit at least they dont try to hide the bias of their talking head shows. while cnn runs lou dobbs as ‘independent,’ maybe independent in that he thinks republicans are too nice to brown people
July 7th, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Was O’Reilly’s lufa incident involved?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:10 PM
also isnt cnn the network that has glenn beck? or headline news, whatever the hell he is on. that cocksucker is as rightwing as anyone on foxnews. cnn has definitely tried to appeal to fox’s audience.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:10 PM
sparty, I’m not sure if you were mocking my Phelps choice or not with that comment, but in the chance you were being serious, I will say Katie Hoff won’t even come close to the haul Phelps will take home.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:10 PM
Does TBL try to start ish like this? Kobe v. Lebron. Libs v. Fox News. At least there is always a clear cut resolution at the end of all the bickering.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
Oh yeah, and didn’t O’Reilly bitch about his picture in the Al Franken book being doctored? Didnt he sue? That fuck will sue anything that moves.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
5 reasons on why Maggette needs to sign with Orlando
1. Dwight Howard
2. 2 spot is wide open
3. Leastern Conference
4. his parents live in Central Fl
5. No state tax
July 7th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
Fox News: “Barack Hussein Obama” I love how they use his full name all the time.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
while cnn runs lou dobbs as ‘independent,’ maybe independent in that he thinks republicans are too nice to brown people
Funniest/truest shit I’ve heard in a long time.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:13 PM
@fetch: i was serious. I am on the Phelps bandwagon as greatest athlete alive. Katie Hoff is crazy good too.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:13 PM
6. long summer after hosed by detroit.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:15 PM
“Limp wristed journalists.” Wait and see whose phone-calls are returned when the White House is painted black. Fox News = irrelevant.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:16 PM
Established. Fox has questionable journalistic standards. But when will anyone on the left admit the bias of every other major network (not justifying the distortion–that’s some sick stuff there). Let’s start with NBC/MSBNC shall we….. And we’re back to the Olberloon defenders.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:17 PM
Don’t get me started on Fox News. It’s amazing that they stoop that low.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:17 PM
people liking fox news, thats their own decision, but i dont think anyone can honestly say that foxnews isnt biased. i mean when one of your anchors becomes the press secretary, come on. sure cnn may have a general liberal bias (albeit mostly morons over there) and msnbc.. doesnt matter, but its not like fox is indepedent in any way shape or form
July 7th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
LeBron>Libs
July 7th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
If there is one thing you can count on from folks on the left, it’s identity politics. You have to hand it to them, they have it down pat.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
CNBC, only channel worth watching.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:19 PM
That girl with TO is smoking.
I agree that Fox News biggest snafu is calling themselves fair and balanced. If they didn’t have that motto people wouldn’t take such issue with them. However, conservatives have one network, while every other station is liberal so I don’t see why liberals get so worked up about Fox News.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:21 PM
are you trying to tell me dobbs doesnt think mccain’s immigration and trade with latin america policies are weak?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:23 PM
Some of you guys defend liberal rags like the WaPo to no end, but this is pretty terrible.
An article about Obama’s spiritual journey with no mention of Jeremiah Wright.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:26 PM
/fixed
July 7th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
Fox News is fair and balanced because they have an Alan Colmes for Sean Hannity. They always have someone there to represent the left in any panel discussion. Contrast this to the way MSNBC will trot out liberal after liberal after liberal.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
Purdue Matt – have you found those weapons yet? Have Iraqi oil sales paid for the war? Do you pay American Taxes? Do you own a car or a house?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
The NYT commenting on someone else’s journalistic integrity? High comedy!
July 7th, 2008 at 4:27 PM
@spencer- i got room for you on the bandwagon. You will need a new team to root for in two years after Lebron leaves.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:28 PM
the best part of this, is that Peter King is technically on vacation. but any chance to mention Brett Favre + coming back, that’ll get his fat ass sweating back to a computer.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:29 PM
Honestly, I get 99% of my news online (yes, including a stop to the NYT every day) so I cannot comment specifically on Dobbs, though I do know his main schtick is immigration.
My point is that if someone believes in protecting the borders from illegal immigration, they are automatically labeled as hating on “brown people.” I mean, it couldn’t possibly have anything to do with economic impact or law enforcement concern.
Along the same lines, if somebody dislikes Obama’s liberal politics, well, it can’t be about his policies, it has to be because he’s (half) black.
Identity politics. It’s how liberal politicians operate, they’re masters at it.
John “Two Americas” Edwards, anyone?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:30 PM
Soapnet, only channel worth watching.
I josh. Just representin’ the estrogen voice here.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:30 PM
hmmm, oil prices drop after the July 4th weekend….
July 7th, 2008 at 4:30 PM
The bias doesn’t bother me because I know MSNBC and CNN have their biases as well. The thing is, Fox News photoshopped pictures of two reporters and made them look like freakin Frankenstein. It’s one thing to critique, but that’s just unethical. There’s a right to critique and a wrong way. Fox News chose the wrong way.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
It’s funny to me how liberals focus so much hate on Fox News. Yes, Fox news leans to the right and their morning show is an embarrassment but every other network leans to the left. Now an ultra liberal paper like the New York Times writes a hit piece on Fox News and you treat it like it’s the sermon on the mount. Not a hint of bias anywhere to be seen and 100% true.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
J2B…don’t hate on Peter King, he’s a badass at what he does and he gave a helluva commencement speech at my sister’s graduation from Ohio U.
and yes, there was a favre reference in the speech. so he has a mancrush, what’s so wrong with that? id gladly lay my head on phil’s mickeltits if i could hit a 40 foot flop shot and hit a 325 yard drive.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
This is why I only get my news from Al Jazeera and TMZ
July 7th, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Matt you’ve said this multiple times now and you know it’s laughable! Colmes is a joke that noone respects in terms of intellectual ability, but he’s the only liberal on the station. MSNBC has Tucker Carlson, Pat Buchanon and Joe Scarbrough on for many hours everyday.
Plus the Left vs. Right shows like ‘Santorum’s Cumguzzler’ and Colmes are useless and have never enlightened a single person ever because they are just bitchfests.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Do they still show that one news show where the anchorwoman is topless?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:34 PM
@clown-NY Post online. Nothing but A-Rod and Madonna on the homepage all weekend long and into today.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Swimming is definitely more of a sport than golf, so Michael Phelps is more deserving of Greatest Athlete honors than Tiger Woods.
Has anyone here read Confessions of an Economic Hit Man?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Anyone calling Fox News fair and balanced is either dumb, or lying to themselves.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
Did T.O. pick her up on the Bang Bus?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
July 7th, 2008 at 4:39 PM
what would an NFL/NBA player have a better chance at being successful at…swimming or playing golf? there we go.
Tiger > anyone NOT named MJ
July 7th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
spencer…just saying that coming back from vacation to report a story on Brett Favre, AGAIN, is pretty laughable.
give me phil’s game and wife as hot as amy and i’d gladly do the same.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:41 PM
No personal attack ever fed a hungry child.
/Bill Clintoned
July 7th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
How does other athletes having a better chance at being successful at golf make your argument spencer?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
a swimmer was more successful at the NBA-Tim Duncan.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:43 PM
August–reality check to your facts. Scarborough is a RINO. Buchanan is the crotchety old righty-made to look stupid and Tucker lost his show so that that fugly Chromagnum Man can have his 6 o’clock show. They are all tokens. It’s quite clear MSNBC has no proclivity properly represent both sides.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
An athlete would absolutely have a better shot at being successful at golf than at swimming. There isn’t a single pro athlete out there that could train enough to get to the level of Michael Phelps or Ryan Lochte or Aaron Piersol.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:44 PM
This just in: America wages war against aggressors (Fox and Friends), Lonely American Dead as Result of Liberal Ignorance in SouthEast Florida (Shepard Smith) Dow and Nasdaq suck because Liberals Suck (Cavuto).
July 7th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
A few thoughts:
Identity politics: you can trot out John “two americas” Edwards, but liberals can trot out Karl “can’t think of a clever nickname” Rove who, not only put identity hits on liberals but did the same damn thing to ppl in his own party (McCain in SC). Its politics as usual, not liberal or conservative politics, just politics.
NYT is one of the better spots to get news, really, it is. Their Op-ed department is fairly balanced (for every Dowd there’s a David Brooks. Sure some like Krugman go overboard but I’ve always felt that they are balanced out). And their reporting is generally informative and well-founded. On the whole, its a very intelligent newspaper, liberal, conservative or whatever.
Anybody who really gets all their news source from cable has to seriously reevaluate things. Any station that can do round the clock coverage on missing blonde girls and exploit general fears to engender ratings will always be suspect in their reporting. To me at least.
As for O’Rielly or Olberman; give me a cogent, well thought out op-ed piece (from the left or the right) any day than some meandering BS from a cable talking head.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
i have no idea. cut me some slack, ive had a bullshit day.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:46 PM
But it’s more than 1, thus making my point.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:46 PM
spent the last few hours on the phone with worthless tech support, so sorry for the lack of comments, and doubly sorry about the server issue. there are the trails and tribulations small business owners must go through.
for the 905th time … should be cleared up tonight
July 7th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
TBL needs to have an impromptu car wash to raise money for a new server. And if that doesn’t work, we could always donate blood and semen.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:50 PM
/Stars slow clap
+1
July 7th, 2008 at 4:50 PM
Lacey, Joe Scarborough got a 95 rating (out of 100) from the American Conservative Union, signed the ‘Contract With America’ and was pro-life… sounds like a big ole hippy-dippy liberal to me.
July 7th, 2008 at 4:51 PM
A car wash like in Dodgeball?
July 7th, 2008 at 4:53 PM
speaking of semen. the owner here is selling his Jeep Liberty Renegade, it sits out front of our shop. One of the techs here comes inside to tell me a used condom was thrown on the windshield. fantastic!
July 7th, 2008 at 4:53 PM
@ mike
i get that, im just saying in dobbs’ case the only thing making him different than republicans is that he takes a more hardline stance on latin american affairs, for better or worse (i agree with him on trade, not immigration) but that doesnt make him an independent. and during his show there is a little ‘independent’ logo on the bottom corner the whole time
July 7th, 2008 at 4:57 PM
Bikini car wash!!! I bet a lot of you guys look hot in your bikinis!
July 7th, 2008 at 5:05 PM
I’ll need a boob job before I go out in a bikini.
July 7th, 2008 at 5:10 PM
August, if you try to see that show through a conservative lens, you’ll know that Joe isn’t what he seems. At least not since he started the morning show. All he does is talk about his man crushes for people in the Obama camp. Like most of the MSNBC bobbleheads, he’s left the reservation. But since you’re all about ratings, care to discuss what really matters–that Barry is rated the most liberal of all Senators in the current lot. Damn it, I’m on the wrong blog here!
July 7th, 2008 at 5:44 PM
All he does is talk about his man crushes for people in the Obama camp.
Have you ever looked in their eyes? Sooooooo dreamy…
July 7th, 2008 at 5:48 PM
Nah, I’m not an idiot Obamanite that’s transfixed by his meaningless talk of hope and change. Empty Suit.
July 7th, 2008 at 5:54 PM
‘Empty Suit’ > ‘A Suit With Everybody’s Hand Already In It’
July 7th, 2008 at 5:59 PM
Someone that’s done something more than remove asbestos > Change We Can Believe In
July 7th, 2008 at 6:18 PM
Just a question but as a prominent politician can you go back and check out his voting record?
July 7th, 2008 at 6:24 PM
Not sure what you’re referring to, but I think the best site for voting records is here. Not that anyone wants it, but I have all sorts of goodness as to where he’s been and what’s he’s been saying lately. Good reading.
July 7th, 2008 at 6:39 PM
If a tree fell on Fox News and everyone was killed, would anyone care?
Just saying.
July 7th, 2008 at 7:51 PM
My point was all the ‘talk’ by both candidates does not have to be meaningless as you say, when we have empirical facts (voting records) to check the basis of talking points vs reality.
