Fox Sports Hops in Bed with the Florida Gators
College Basketball, College Football July 15th. 2008, 2:10pm
Professors in Gainesville are going to love this one: as budget cuts roil the University of Florida … the Gators athletic program is rolling in the dough thanks to a lucrative 10-year, $10 million deal with Fox Sports.
The Jacksonville Business Journal speculates that this all but ends the hope of the SEC Channel, which would have surely brought $$$ and more exposure to some of the lower-rung football teams. Yeah, as if Urban Meyer cares.
And just because … Tebow and Andrews, and Tebow in Crocs. These never get old.

I posted this yesterday, and it’s definitely a blow to the SEC.

Notre Dame finds their contract cute.

Your post confounded my tiny brain. A 10 year, $10 million deal is peanuts. It is a 10 year, $10 million per year deal.
Of course, my mind is fried because of staring at the computer screen waiting for your server to allow me in.

the difference being notre dame football has a massive fanbase that largely still watches even when they suck ass, and people will watch them to see them lose when theyre sucking ass as well.
florida basketball is always going to be the second most popular sport at their own school, i dont really think many people outside of gville care

i think it’s premature to say there will be no sec channel. note that the big ten channel is partially owned by fox. and that’s also why it got placement on the basic tier on directv.
also, if there is an sec channel it could negate the florida deal. for example, the bucanneers signed a deal with brighthouse networks cable for a 24/7 buccaneers channel. the nfl nixed the deal when the nfl network was born.
i don’t think one (florida deal w/fox) has much to do with the other (proposed sec channel).

Holy crap that’s a $100,000,000 contract! Big fucking difference between 10 mill and 100 mill… Fox got sodomized sans lubricant on this one, IMO.
(for those who don’t know, sodomy is code for… butt sex)

i just read the linked story. this is an
. sun sports (nee sunshine network) has had the rights to gators athletics (as well as florida state) for years.
the author clearly doesn’t know this. sun sports has broadcast taped games and some live games as long as i’ve known they’ve been around.
apples and oranges comparing this to a proposed sec channel. this is no different than comcast chicago having rights to taped delayed illinois sports.

so august is okay with being sodomized as long as theres a liberal application of lube
