It’s On: Gregg Doyel vs. Greta Van Susteren
Media Gossip/Musings, NFL July 21st. 2008, 2:00pm
Media fight! Lame. But highly comical. Gregg Doyel of CBS Sports (seen here with a Mohawk), in a column Sunday about flip-flopper Brett Favre, claimed that the Packers QB “… has gone on the attack, using a gullible friend at Fox News …” and of course that zinger was directed at little ol’ Greta following their oddly-timed interview last week.
Sunday, on her blog (!?!), Van Susteren lit into Doyel for not calling her to inquire about the definition of “family friend” and claimed that she’d only met Favre twice prior, both in a professional setting. Who knew that Greta was an avid CBS Sports website visitor?
Doyel, a one-time TBL interview subject, quickly responded today on his blog, calling his new enemy “Van Gullible” in the headline. Later: Greta Van Grammar. We eagerly await the latest from the 54-year-old Wisconsin native.
It doesn’t quite the panache of Whitlock vs. Lupica, or Mariotti vs. Telander, but there’s still hope.

Greta Van Susteren? Is she the blond at Fox News or the blond at Fox News?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:04 PM
Van Grammar? I know Doyel can come up with something better without getting fired.

This is all part of Scientology’s plan to recruit a big time sports star. They failed with Beckham and now they are after Favre, thus the Greta interview. Favre obviously will be a Redskin this year. Xenu demans it.

Greta Van Favre Interviewer is more like it.

Then shouldn’t the Browns trade Stallworth to the Skins?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:10 PM
Shh, people who aren’t at level two can’t know, otherwise they’re vaporized.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:13 PM
Doyel’s soul patch is so hip and gnarly – I think I’m gonna yank it right now!
July 21st, 2008 at 2:21 PM
“Then shouldn’t the Browns trade Stallworth to the Skins?”
Does Stallworth dabble in the Nut Cult as well?

Roman better really like Kevin Boss now. No playoffs for the Giants, this just firms it up even more for me, hahahahahah.

@ KC: I’m looking for it, but can’t find the link. Simmons had an article posted about him in the Boston Globe during Super Bowl week about how weird and odd he is because of the Scientology thing. For the life of me, I can’t find that link.

cortes…just saw that…it sucks…It will not effect the record of the World Champs (11-5 mark it down) but I love that guy…Jay (where are you buddy) will love him, he just doesn’t know it yet
July 21st, 2008 at 2:26 PM
cbh..you can’t have the argument that the Champs are not going to do well if Shockey is a distraction and then say that they suck because he is gone…
July 21st, 2008 at 2:26 PM
Nowhere on the internet cortes
July 21st, 2008 at 2:26 PM
nevermind
July 21st, 2008 at 2:26 PM
i love shockey.. another great cane..giants will miss him.. 9-7 for the g-men, and barely miss the playoffs

I’ve been on her show more times than Brett Favre, but he’s won more Super Bowls than I, so he’s got that going for him… Knowing GVS a bit, every time those clips were replayed across the media, I couldn’t help but wonder how he ended up on her stage as opposed to an actual sports journalist. Seems that Jeremy Schaap would have been more appropriate and wouldn’t raise any questions. Favre just seems incongruous to her daily staple of missing Aruba girl, Paparazzi issues, and Brad Pitt’s kids.

Irish, I like you, but I will be avoiding you on that day. I don’t think we should talk, I will say mean, nasty, terrible things that I will later regret.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:27 PM
Hahahha, damn you for having a good memory Roman.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:27 PM
Shockey’s going to be taken high in FFL drafts now in that pass-happy NO offense. Drew Brees is going to love him.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:32 PM
Wow. Glazer says the Gmen tried to get Miami involved to end up with Jason Taylor
July 21st, 2008 at 2:33 PM
@rocketsfan- i was just looking at the scheduling. USA has a couple warm up matches before they bury China.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:34 PM
RocketsFan – Are you implying you’d root for China over the US simply because Yao is playing for them?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:35 PM
instead of throwing all that money at rick reilly, why doesn’t espn invest some money in actual reporters? jay glazer breaks more stories than everyone at the WWL combined.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:36 PM
Taylor would have been a nice replacement for Michael Gheyan.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:36 PM
rick reilly needs to be shit-canned already. his british open material was 100% junk.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:36 PM
@roeth- i bet some Mavs fans would root for Germany
July 21st, 2008 at 2:37 PM
his british open material was 100% junk.
agreed. that shit made me nauseous. who finds that dork funny? people over 50?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:39 PM
Irish – I hope not. I’m a huge Pens fan, but there’s no way I’d ever root for Canada over the US in the Olympics simply because of Crosby (and that included when Lemieux played)
July 21st, 2008 at 2:41 PM
what’s this? on the telecast? i didn’t even notice…that’s crazy.

nice having to reference two opposing websites in your post. espn.com is now a blog with a huge payroll. they break less news than deadspin.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:44 PM
Screw that: when Pau played for Spain I’d root for them to get eliminated ASAP before he got hurt… of course then he got hurt, missed pretty much a whole year, and the Grizz plummeted back to the NBA basement.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:45 PM
I love how ESPN never uses external links.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:47 PM
“who finds that dork funny? people over 50?”
Yes.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:47 PM
au contraire. they have a link to nick bakay’s fantasy thoughts on nfl.com. that page probably gets less hits than TBL’s espy red carpet post.
July 21st, 2008 at 2:51 PM
@Rumeal: How dare you!

July 21st, 2008 at 2:55 PM
No, not at all. I want to see Yao play well so I don’t have to read any articles about Yao being “owned” in the Olympics or how much he sucks. He’s only at 80% recovery right now, and it takes a full year for this injury to fully recover. So he’s going to be off in Beijing and the opening to the NBA season.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:02 PM
RocketsFan: it’s 2:00 Central, and Yao still sucks.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:15 PM
Van Grammar? Really. Come one.
Do I have to keep doing this: fighting on the internet is like competing in Special Olympics. You may win, you may lose, but you’re still retarded.
Geesh.

And as always, Clown with the funny.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:18 PM
Clown is upset that Joker upstaged him this weekend.
July 21st, 2008 at 3:28 PM
This dude is an idiot to pick a fight with Greta Van Whatshername. Even if he was right, he’d still come off looking like a pussy.
