The Redskins vs. the Washington Post (Again!)
Media Gossip/Musings, NFL July 24th. 2008, 3:20pm
The second comment on this post at the DC Sports Bog correctly summarizes what you are about to read about the latest kerfuffle between the Redskins and the Washington Post: “You will have more freedom in Beijing when you cover the Olympics.”
The jist: If TV stations go to Redskins Camp and collect video clips, and then make said video clips available to all on their website (hence providing the embedded code) the Redskins will not allow you to use the video. Not the TV station – the Redskins! It is not an enviable position to be in if you are the TV stations – they have to cave to the Skins, because the team is bigger than the Orioles, Wizards, Nationals and Caps combined. And it’s definitely not a good spot to be in if you’re the Washington Post.

there’s a reason Dan Snyder’s Skins make more money than any other NFL team…he’s shrewd as a mofo.

at least their over-the-top control freakedness is offset by their not-at-all racist name, so they’ve got that going for them…

the team is bigger than the Orioles, Wizards, Nationals and Caps combined
DC United is bigger than the Nations.

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand the popularity of the Redskins? I’ve never met one real life ‘Skins fan and yet they’re like the 3rd most valuable team…what gives?

go to d.c. sometime. it’s like the tide is to alabama. it’s not a sport, it’s a religion. i spent a few weeks there in college one summer and i’ve never met people so into football like redskins fans. i thought pittsburgh was crazy about the steelers (it is) but not like washington is to the redskins.
just from my experience, the cities/fans most psychotic about their team:
washington/skins
wisconsin/packers
pittsburgh/steelers
buffalo/bills
dallass/cowboys
cleveland/browns
tampa/bucs
chicago/bears
kansas city/chiefs

For what it’s worth I’m a Cowboys fan living in Lincoln, NE and I actually know a handful of ‘Skins fans.

Haha. Good stuff. Skins fans are like Nascar fans. They’re are a shit-ton of them but they’re rarely seen or heard.

Tailgating at FedEx Field is glorious, watching the game there is glorious, everything else, parking, stadium, getting to the stadium, food and beer prices, atrocious.

I also would like to point out the fact he quietly made fun of what he apparently likes to call “Dallass”…
And no I’ve never been to DC before but now I’m not sure I want to…oh and FYI the biggest thing in Chicago is by far the Bears. Cubs/Sox biases aside – Bears are Chicago’s team.
…sorry Sky but it’s the truth.

That photo is making my eyes hurt, but I think the blurriness is helping out that front row.

Sylvia Fowles heard that, and she’s knocking at your apartment door as I type this. Hide. Fast.

cbh49er – Damn straight. Born and raised. Getting all geared up for Big Red. Have a bad taste in my mouth from the last few years.

Their fans annoy me on talk radio, and I live among them. When the team is doing well, you think they are the greatest team ever. When things go bad, it is like the end of the world. It seems there is never a middle ground. And forget about trying to find coverage of other teams on the radio or TV, its ‘Skins 24/7. Even Brian Mitchell brought up the fact the fans need to stop acting like their last SB win was recent, it was 1991!
All that coverage is very deserving of a team that last was a big deal in 1991. (sarcasm)
