More Significant July Baseball!
Baseball July 28th. 2008, 6:00pm
Last week it was Phillies-Mets (New York 2-1), this weekend it was Yankees-Red Sox (New York, 2-1), and beginning tonight, it’ll be Cubs-Brewers, with the NL Central lead on the line. The pitching the next two nights should be sublime: Lilly vs. Sabathia, followed by Z vs. Sheets. (Tickets are still available!)
Bleed Cubbie Blue is calling this the biggest Cubs’ series with a division rival in five years, which seems somewhat dramatic since it still is July and the two will play six games head-to-head in the final two weeks of the season.
Another team worth highlighting: the AL West-leading Angels, who are on the road in Boston for three starting tonight, followed by four in the Bronx. If the team with the best record in baseball wins, say, five of seven on the road, will they become the World Series favorites?

i can’t wait to go to the last 2 games of the season. there will be no more exciting baseball all year.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:09 PM
brewers > cubs.

benji – how good at tix? I’m eager to see photos …
July 28th, 2008 at 6:19 PM
2nd level right above home plate. right under Eucker. i had tickets to tonights game but i have been coaching softball with my friend for his nieces team and the final game and pizza party is tonight. i’m not happy about this.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:25 PM
@benji-
Admittance of coaching girls’ softball in which none of the girls are your kids is license for losing the man card for a lengthy period. Especially when said coaching job prevents going to HUGE baseball games in July… Wow.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:27 PM
@ fetch
opinion > fact
July 28th, 2008 at 6:29 PM
WW – While I don’t think I have the patience for softball, one day, I wouldn’t mind being an assistant coach on my kids’ rec league team.

Is Sabathia due for a letdown? 6-8 with a 3.83 with the Indians and now 4-0 with a 1.36 with the Brewers? He isn’t going to go undefeated and pitch complete games every outing is he?
July 28th, 2008 at 6:37 PM
@ Mikeychx While he won’t go undefeated and pitch a complete game every start, his Indians’ numbers are bloated due to a truly awful beginning to the season. Also, when he is on a roll, it usually lasts for a while. Well, at least to the post season.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:40 PM
@wally: they weren’t going to have a team if we didn’t coach the team. and he’s my best friend and he’s married and we never get to hang out so i figured it was a time for us to chill. that sounds gay too. but the niece has a hot single mom which was my real reason for agreeing to coach. i am pissed about missing the baseball game tonight though.
TBL, do you have a kid or were you thinking future?
Mikey, he was 0-4 with a 13.something ERA in April. So, he was 6-4 with like a 2.4 ERA until joining the Brewers.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:40 PM
Who outside of LA thinks the Angels are World Series favorites?
July 28th, 2008 at 6:43 PM
I do Fetch. I love their pitching.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:59 PM
im just north of LA do i get a vote?
July 28th, 2008 at 7:17 PM
Mikey, do you actually live in Aneheim? That would be funny.

More significant baseball: White Sox vs Twins for 4 games in the Metrodome
Twins perspective here
July 28th, 2008 at 8:20 PM

July 28th, 2008 at 8:23 PM

tbl -
I was being much more of a smart ass than being truthful… I coached a little league team for a couple of years in my early 20’s. And, I would definitely be a part of my kids teams if they want to play.
benji –
You almost buried yourself, but came back with a vengeance with the MILF call. That is as good as it gets and may be WELL worth missing a July baseball game!!! You can learn a tremendous amount from those with experience!!!
July 28th, 2008 at 8:36 PM
Wait are you suggesting we exchange words? Fuck no
/kidding as well
July 28th, 2008 at 8:37 PM
Just thought I should clarify, that’s more significant meaning additional significant not greater significance
July 28th, 2008 at 8:39 PM
no no, it’s greater significance.
July 28th, 2008 at 8:41 PM
Okay, three comments in a row from me, if me and Fetch can get along, Mikey, I’m sure we’ll be okay especially considering I don’t really give a damn about the Cubs and I megaloathe the Twins
July 28th, 2008 at 8:42 PM
hey i megalothe the white sox so we’re even. By the way, does the use of megalothe mean you watch Scrubs?
July 28th, 2008 at 8:44 PM
i dont take you for a guy that would trade your 2005 WS to prevent the Cubs from getting one
July 28th, 2008 at 8:51 PM
YES! Scrubs indeed. I adore that show, got into to like a year and a half ago.
that’s about right mikey. I’m mostly indifferent to the Cubs. I technically root against them when the Sox aren’t doing particularly well, but that’s only because I don’t need to hear people talking crap. I’m from the NW suburbs, so I was in Cubs territory and was vastly outnumbered.
Oh and Fetch, I hate Span
July 28th, 2008 at 8:56 PM
jeeves jeeves jeeves, obviously I don’t think Span can keep this up, but I’m glad he’s finally playing well. Although I definitely don’t agree with Joe Sheehan when he said Span wasn’t a good centerfielder. And Scrubs is probably my favorite show ever, maybe you’re not such a bad guy afterall even though you’re a Sox fan.
July 28th, 2008 at 8:58 PM
Scrubs just may be my favorite show that is still running. I don’t know if it can top Seinfeld, but it recently has topped the Office for me. I think the Office has it’s moments of funnier jokes, but Scrubs make me laugh more consistently.
The Twins should play Redmond and Tolbert against the Sox; they’ll get their firsst homers of the year as well then. 4-0, bugger
July 28th, 2008 at 8:59 PM
no kid, just thinking future
wow, Dice K got roughed up tonight. My boy Kotchman just went yard!
July 28th, 2008 at 9:01 PM
Jeeves, Tolbert is injured, but Adam Everett could be back soon, so that’s something to watch for. Yay small market baseball.
July 28th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
Jesus, I know you’re out there. Please let Konerko re-injure his wrist or his oblique—-he is killing this team and Ozzie doesn’t have the nuts to bench him.
July 28th, 2008 at 9:14 PM
Oh man ssimac that would make me so happy. That feeble check swing ground ball DP just changed me from let’s give him a little more time to bench his ass.
I never understand how home run calls are overturned. Ok, yes, I think Dye’s homer was foul, but what changed that made the umps change their minds?
July 28th, 2008 at 9:59 PM
getting interesting. Red Sox mounting a comeback as tying run comes to the plate in the 8th.
brewers erupt for three on Lilly in the 6th …
July 28th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Tanner Boyle thinks Rickie Weeks is bad with the glove
July 28th, 2008 at 10:45 PM

July 29th, 2008 at 12:13 AM
Huge series opening win for the Cubs. Nice to see the big hitters come through when it counted and Marmol close the door in the 9th. Tomorrow night should be spectacular with that match up on the hill.
July 29th, 2008 at 12:53 AM
@ ssimac, seriously.. someone needs to throw him one inside and break his arm. I’m really sick of his lack of production and his stupid shoulder shrugs.. maybe I’m just bitter at tonight’s brutal showing.. or maybe Konerko sucks..
