Pack to Favre: Here’s $20 Mil, Stay Home
NFL July 31st. 2008, 1:45pm
The Packers have offered the already-wealthy Mr. Favre $20 million to not appear at training camp and stay retired. (Could have sworn we just saw an ESPNews blip that claimed Favre has chartered a plane to Green Bay, but we can’t find a link.) Boy, $20 million to stay home? Favre’s got to be in the .001 percent of people who wouldn’t jump at that.
The Commish is supposed to get in the mix tomorrow if Green Bay can’t settle this, and maybe that’s why the Packers are supposedly entertaining the idea of sending Favre to the Vikings or Bears, two teams with depressing QB situations. We find that impossible to fathom, but hey, whatever.

Please Goodell, make it happen that Favre is in a Vikings uniform on Monday night at Lambeau, would be the greatest sight ever.

Jackson in Monnesota is NOT that bad of a QB. He has a great line and a hell of a runningback, he will be better than advertised this season. Fantasy Sleeper alert.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:54 PM
Florio is stalking Favre. It’s getting a little creepy, I must say.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:55 PM
Agree with Mags (!) re Jackson. Look at his final 7 games from last season, those are some respectable numbers. He’s not a world-beater by any means but I’m interested to see what he’s got this year.

Manny deal is all-but dead.

@cbh49er. I think I am with you on that one. Being a Viking fan from Wisconsin I can not think of anything more that would piss off every family member that I have. I would love that shit. At first I wasn’t real big on seeing Favre in a Vikings uni, but the more I think about how much it would piss all uncles off, I love it.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:56 PM
ESPN also just said that he’s drinking sparkling water and eating cashews on this plane, and that he scratched his right butt cheek before takeoff.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:56 PM
consider me passed out. dude can’t complete passes in 7on7 drills…not saying he wont be good down the road, but not this year.

+1 for the name Lance Briggs and another +1 for the comment.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:57 PM
Since he’s being advertised as utter dogshit this season, there’s a chance that you’re right. I wouldn’t draft Tarvaris Jackson if I were in a 30 team league.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:58 PM
@lance:
Jay Glazer is now reporting that it was the right cheek, and that it was Deanna who scratched it.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:58 PM
A lot of non-viking fans think t-jack is going to be good. I think this is coming from opponents who would much rather see him on the field than someone who can actually complete a pass. From what I watched last year, he can not do this successfully.

As a Viking fan, I think having Favre in a Viking jersey would be the greatest thing ever. Make no mistake, the Vikings suck and will always suck. They won’t win the Superbowl with Favre or any other quarterback for that matter because they’re the Vikings and, yes, they suck. I just want to buy my daughter a purple Favre jersey to see if my father-in-law’s head explodes.

Gotta be frustrating Hef. You were soooo close.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:03 PM
Yes, God cares that a Marlins fan who chose the team because he liked the color teal doesn’t get a selfish superstar on his team. It’s in the bible.

To cbh49er: You are too kind sir. Today’s my first day, and I gotta get my comment-legs going. The Favre thing was just set on a tee for me. ESPN really needs to give it a rest; I’m tired of “Recycled Brett Favre Highlight Reel” and “FAVRE-WATCH” being put ahead of MLB and NBA trades on the nightly sportscenter. Can someone in Bristol also unplug the red telephone “FAVREline”. I mean seriously, they turned this guy into the Britney Spears of the sports world.

St. Bear: There’s a new testament now?
July 31st, 2008 at 2:10 PM
if Favre goes to another team, he’s their fucking player from now on. he better not think about going into Canton as a Packer. Wear purple and horns in Canton you fucking jackass.

July 31st, 2008 at 2:11 PM
I would just like to offer my services to Mr. Favre – I will accept the money and remain at home on his behalf, all I need is a signed power of attorney and we’re good to go.

@ Hef – You would like it. There’s a nice story about a Jew in there.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:14 PM
groin, I agree that Favre isn’t enough to get them to the SB, but you have to admit that it has been a few years since we were excited at the start of the season and I haven’t had my hopes dashed by them in a long time.

Nothing bad happens to him I hope. Is he one of those tough jews like on the news?
July 31st, 2008 at 2:16 PM
Does that $20 mil include some kind of excuse to consume large amounts of narcotic pain relievers? No, then farve wants to play again.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:17 PM
There’s no way the Packers would trade Brett Favre to the Bears. I don’t know why these sports writers even put that shit in their columns.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:18 PM
You mean the Hebrew Hammer?
July 31st, 2008 at 2:18 PM
Is there a difference between Hef and Frienldly Hef? Perhaps that should warrant a TBL Q&A post.

‘98? You’re still crying about ‘98? My childhood was ruined when Sammy White almost had his head taken off by Jack Tatum in Superbowl XI. I’ve endured many more seasons of bad Vikings football than you have and I’ve come to realize that they’re never going to win a Superbowl. Favre would at least make for a fun season.
