USA Hoops 114, Turkey 82
Olympics July 31st. 2008, 10:15am
We watched with one eye while listening to Pam Anderson tell Howard Stern how she talked to her kids about the infamous tape, and here’s our take on the 114-82 US victory:
* Not enough defense from the USA in the first 15 minutes
* Late first-half run helped USA spring to nice working halftime margin (54-37)
* Much prefer CP3 at point to J Kidd
* Kobe seemed to dominate at both ends, and led everyone with seven assists
* LeBron led Team USA with 20 points, ‘Melo had 17, and Dwight Howard had 15
* Even though D Wade looks chubbier with the bald look, his game looked like the 2006 version, and he had the dunk of the game on a fast break
Next tune up: Lithuania, tomorrow morning, 8 am.

I hope that doesn’t become a bad habit.
Much prefer CP3 at point to J Kidd
You’re just saying that because well…you have a brain and are using it.

Glad to hear D Wade is returning to form, even if he did shave his dome.

@ KC Res. I used to listen to Stern when I lived in Denver. But now I’d rather listen to Johnny Dare.

@Irish, If the Olympic Bball games in China are anything like the ‘02 World Cup in Korea, the games will be really early in the morning.
Jason Kidd is old enough to remember seeing Greg Oden play.

Aren’t most cable companies and Satelite networks having the Olympics On Demand. That will be cool. I know Cox has been advertising it.

Why have I not seen anything up here about this quote yet:
“I understand what Yao said, but I’m still ghetto,” Artest said, according to the report. “That’s not going to change. I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he’ll understand what I’m about.”
July 31st, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Loosely translated: “I don’t understand what the fuss was about. Black players attack fans in the stands. That’s what we’re about.” – Ron Artest

Sarah Michelle Gellar is a twig, she used to look good before she started looking like every other anorexic actress in Hollywood.

Brett “the hitman” Favre offered 20 mil by the Packers NOT to play…
/end threadjack
July 31st, 2008 at 10:52 AM
Speaking of Brett Favre, are there any SI subscribers here? Peter King wrote a piece on that douche bag, and I couldn’t even get through it. I had to stop reading when I saw this quote from Deanna Favre:
“You’re a football player, you need to play football.”
Hi, Deanna? Where were you 3 months ago when the Packers offered your husband a 2 year deal TO PLAY FOOTBALL and he wanted to retire?
July 31st, 2008 at 10:54 AM
This whole thing makes no sense to me. If they think Favre is so great and they can’t release him so he can sign with the Vikings then why fuck don’t they start him?
July 31st, 2008 at 10:56 AM
cbh, that is the same opinion of every Packers fan. for some reason, this management is committed to Aaron Rodgers this year.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:57 AM
So he can play another year and then go through this retirement saga all over again? At some point the team is going to have to start a QB other than Favre. What they should do is bench Favre and only play him if Rodgers sucks.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Happy St., I just like that Yao and Scola are text messaging each other about this trade… and yet not including McGrady in the discussion. Quite humorous.
Artest is going to be a beast next year.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:59 AM
Poz had a nice Farve piece yesterday.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:59 AM
If they don’t want him to play for there team they should send him to another team. Something doesn’t seem right to me about basically forcing a guy not play football.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:01 AM
agreed, when i heard they offered him money not to play, i threw up in my mouth a little bit. that is the ultimate “if i can’t have it, no one will” childish move. and my second thought was that can’t be legal. would the league even allow that to happen.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Why should they do him any favors when he totally fucked over the team by retiring and then a month before camp decided he wants to play again?
July 31st, 2008 at 11:02 AM
/another Favre threadjack
the Packers are now considering trading Favre within the division…
/have fun with that one
July 31st, 2008 at 11:02 AM
It’d be one thing if they forced Favre to retire, it’s an entirely different thing when Favre did retire, they made changes to reflect that he was gone, and now he’s trying to force them to give some other team in their division a better chance at beating them? They’re totally within their rights to say, “fuck you and the horse you rode in on”
July 31st, 2008 at 11:06 AM
Also, keep in mind the Packers were trying to trade Favre to Tampa or the Jets and he says he’ll refuse to play there. Brett Favre thinks he should have total control of the Packers and their decisions just because the fans love him. He’s an asshole.

/no one gives a fuck about favre
end threadjack
July 31st, 2008 at 11:11 AM
If there is one thing I do know about this whole Favre thing it’s that Aaron Rodgers is SOOOOOOO fucked. He can’t come away looking good unless he wins the super bowl next year and that isn’t happening.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:13 AM
no reason to end that threadjack, NickP
July 31st, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Who does team usa play next?
July 31st, 2008 at 11:14 AM
So does that mean NickP qualifies as everyone?
July 31st, 2008 at 11:14 AM
August, in his own mind he qualifies as everyone.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:26 AM
@sportsgal
problem is, he DOES control the situation
July 31st, 2008 at 11:28 AM
@jb- Lithuania Aug 1st
July 31st, 2008 at 11:37 AM
The nerve of Favre having the audacity to change his mind on retirement. I mean “normal” people don’t do that on a day to day basis.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:40 AM
I think the Favre thing is covered way too much but I definitely care, he is still a top 5 QB.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Brady
P. Manning
Brees
Romo
E. Manning
Palmer
July 31st, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Favre is definitely better than Eli and I would put him over Brees as well, maybe even Romo who I haven’t completely bought into yet.

Is this game televised tomorrow morning?
ESPN?
