I’d pay that much if it meant I could bring Harry Caray back to broadcast games pitched by CC Sabathia, but for the Cubs? That’s as many dollars as customers served at McDonald’s. Fanhouse is on it:

Cuban is reported to be the top bidder, at nearly $1.3 billion, but the auction will begin soon, after the applicants and their bankers delve further into the assets books.

“The Cubs are an amazing franchise and brand,” Cuban wrote in an e-mail message. “I think the owner of any major sports franchise has two jobs: first, it’s to work hard to win a championship year after year, and second, to be the caretaker of the franchise in the community.”

It’s obvious Cuban is going to be the top bidder, but that won’t guarantee him the team. It would be up to Bud Selig and the rest of Major League Baseball. That means NO, even though Major League Baseball is lacking poorly dressed owners, so in a way, Cuban as Cubs owner would be celebrating diversity. I’d like to see it, to be honest. Does that change your mind at all, Bud?

No?

You suck.
