The Bloodbath Continues: USA 106, Germany 57
Olympics August 18th. 2008, 12:45pm
Some tournament this has become, huh? Two days after destroying Spain, LeBron (18 points), Dwight Howard (22 points) and the gang pulverized Germany from the outset, surging to an 18-3 lead and cruising to its fourth easy triumph. For the second game in a row, the Americans put to rest any worries about their perimeter shooting, making 11-of-26 three’s.
The quarterfinals begin Wednesday against Australia, a team that played the Americans close two weeks ago, and that was without star center Andruw Bogut. A USA victory would mean a semifinal match against Argentina or Greece.
Team USA’s awesome four performances in Beijing has prompted to the inevitable – could these guys play with the original Dream Team? (Short answer: Sure!) Dan Wetzel is right that Magic, Larry, Stockton and Laettner weren’t in their prime … but he’s also right that Ewing, the Admiral, Barkley and Mailman would overwhelm Bosh, Dwight Howard and Boozer.

August 18th, 2008 at 12:51 PM
let me continue this…
CP3 > lebron
August 18th, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Bosh > Howard
August 18th, 2008 at 12:52 PM
I love the article over at the wwl that basically says, the USA team could very likely be beaten by the Aussies. Dude, your american. Don’t be writing garbage about us being beat. Join in on the Patriotism for once…
August 18th, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Prince > Boozer
August 18th, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Why is it unpatriotic to argue that the US team could lose? That argument is over. It’s not 2001 anymore.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:55 PM
god damnit hef…this isn’t fucking liberal fag-ville, this is fucking AMERICA. we’re bigger, better, badder, um…better, and god damnit, if you ain’t with us, you’re against us.
TERRORIST!!!!!!!!!!!
August 18th, 2008 at 12:55 PM
I just don’t like to see them write that after a 50 point win. I’m all wrapped up in being rah rah for America right now then I read that crap. Write it the day before that game.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:55 PM
From the looks of the last post Barkley could out-party every member of The Redeem Team.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Well said Spence. I think Hef lives to close to the border down there…
August 18th, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Watching them play on the same team, it seems fairly apparent that Lebron > Kobe.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:56 PM
he also can’t beat a 65+ year old man in a race down a basketball court.
advantage…redeem team.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:57 PM
Barkley > Costas
August 18th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
That would make me a gun toting conservative. I also used to live near the Canadian border…maybe that’s what made me not hate foreigners.
/USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!
August 18th, 2008 at 1:00 PM
Coach K > Chuck Daly
August 18th, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Chuck Daly > Coach K…….I change my mind on this every minute…
/sarcasm

1992 Dream Team > 2008 Dream Team
August 18th, 2008 at 1:08 PM
The ‘92 team was pretty good, but I think everyone is forgetting about ‘00. Air Canada > Everybody!
August 18th, 2008 at 1:08 PM
Can they win the Gold first before the comparisons to the ‘92 team start?
Thanks.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:09 PM
Just like WWII all over again. Take that you rat bastards!

How come there were a lot of Olympic posts leading up to the olympics, but then only posts about Men’s BBall, and the occasional Phelps post since the start?
August 18th, 2008 at 1:11 PM
Spence: I watched that race in person. Barkley smoked him.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:11 PM
spence: He beat Bavetta in the race! Granted, he fell down, but he won.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:11 PM
1952 Olympic B-Ball Team > Dream Team
August 18th, 2008 at 1:13 PM
Stockton was 30 during the Olympics. That’s right smack in the middle of his prime.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:13 PM
so my memory is hazy…fuck all of you. he’s still obese and cant hit a golf ball…so HAH.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:14 PM
Redeem Team would be Angola’d.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:14 PM
whoa, SG, how’d you pull that off? do tell!
August 18th, 2008 at 1:15 PM
why wasn’t KJ on the Dream Team?
August 18th, 2008 at 1:16 PM
So who’s left? Argentina? Is that the last hope for everyone hoping that the US fall off?
August 18th, 2008 at 1:16 PM
lebron > MJ
2008 team in a landslide.
/ok, i don’t really believe this
August 18th, 2008 at 1:16 PM
“Magic, Larry, Stockton and Laettner weren’t in their prime ”
Laettner had a prime? maybe in college.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:17 PM
He couldn’t miss his girlfriend’s Homecoming dance?
August 18th, 2008 at 1:18 PM
i know the US has shot well from beyond the arc in the last couple games, but Bird and Mullin would rain 3s all day.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:19 PM
@sparty: But Kobe is the best defender EVAH. Mullin wouldn’t get a shot off.
/sincere
August 18th, 2008 at 1:19 PM
I know they play different positions so they have slightly different roles, but I also think it’s evident that lebron > kobe.
also, my favorite player is now bosh. d00d isn’t the best but he’s fun to watch.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:21 PM
Did I miss the Gold medal game?
August 18th, 2008 at 1:22 PM
The ‘84 team was pretty badass and coached by the General. Barkley and Stockton both couldn’t even make the team.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:23 PM
What a good teammate – Kobe has really helped bring the best out of James. LeBronze has made great strides since 2004.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:23 PM
Wow. That is some diction.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:25 PM
Kobe’s playing the role of wily vet to a T, all the way down to his below-the-net athleticism.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:25 PM
I’m just glad Kobe is on this team, there’s no way they win without his missed dunks and bricked 3’s. Luckily its been decided that Kobe is the best, otherwise people watching may have been confused.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:31 PM
I haven’t been a fan of the NBA since the MJ-as-a-Bull era ended, but the redeem team is making me want to start watching basketball again. Well, at least watch the playoffs again.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:31 PM
What better way to pad USA’s rebound stats? Like I said – great teammate.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:33 PM
a missed shot is to rebounding what an assist is to scoring…
why didn’t i realize this sooner? kobe’s the best.
August 18th, 2008 at 1:39 PM
How soon we forget about NBA refs and their
awesome!awful officiating…August 18th, 2008 at 1:42 PM
I’m anxiously awaiting cursedinclev to show up and tell us that we have to stop actually watching the games, duh, and just remember that Kobe made it further in the playoffs this year.
August 18th, 2008 at 2:05 PM
Wade > LeBron. It is so obvious since we’re using just the olympics as a basis.
August 18th, 2008 at 3:19 PM
CP3 > Stockton
August 18th, 2008 at 3:52 PM
Wade > LeBron. It is so obvious since we’re using just the olympics as a basis
+1 Darrell
I see the comment section was turned to shit real quick on this one
August 18th, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Don’t be an idiot. You like this because you’re watching basketball. The NBA is some strange form of idolatry that happens to occur on a basketball court.
