Lee Diekemper, briefly, on this weekend’s slate of games, which feature no ranked-on-ranked action.

No. 8 West Virginia @ East Carolina, ESPN, 4:30 p.m.

How much of a fluke was the East Carolina win over Virginia Tech last week? If ECU pulls off another upset, it goes to the front of the line (that includes Utah, BYU and Fresno State) as top BCS busters. The “winning” coach may receive a hug from a sweaty Holly Rowe.

Oregon State @ No. 19 Penn State, ABC* 3:30 p.m.

Following the weed incident this week, JoePa was heard muttering something about Eliot Ness, the always dangerous “Website Mob” and John Cappelletti. After watching Penn State dismantle Coastal Carolina on The Big Ten Network, it’s almost heresy to suggest that Penn State’s weakest defensive link are the linebackers. Oregon State gave a game away to Stanford last week. Let’s hope JoePa doesn’t take a swipe at Stacey Dales like he did two years ago to Bonnie Bernstein and an ESPN cameraman at halftime.

Mississippi @ No. 20 Wake Forest, ABC* 3:30 p.m.

Some analysts projected Wake – not Clemson – as the top ACC team. A lot of so-called experts are jocking Mississippi this season with Houston Nutt. Could this be the ACC-SEC showdown people expected from Alabama-Clemson? No word if Nutt will miss pregame warmups feverishly texting female news anchors.

Cincinnati @ No. 4 Oklahoma, ABC* 3:30 p.m.

The Big East may not be such a beast. If it is, a convincing win over a middle-of-the-pack Cincinnati team would look good for the Sooners. No matter the outcome, expect Bob Stoops to cry about something … the shade of green on the field perhaps?

Stanford @ No. 14 Arizona State, FSN 10 p.m.

Stanford could become last year’s Arizona State by beating this year’s Arizona State. Already with a win to open the season over Oregon State, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has a chance to upstage his brother, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
