It’s pouring outside, so we’ve been watching multiple college football games today, and tracking more on the net. Madness, people:

BYU 28, Washington 27: A horrible referee call may rival the Oklahoma-Oregon snafu from a couple years ago: The Huskies scored a TD with three seconds left, and after QB Jake Locker dove into the end zone, he popped up and tossed the football in the air. A flag was thrown! Unreal. Washington had to attempt a 35-yard xpt, and it was blocked.

Ole Miss 28, Wake Forest 30: Well fell in love with Ole Miss during this game, but Wake’s QB Riley Skinner led a solid 2-minute drive and Swank nailed a 41-yarder with :08 left as the Deacons survived at home. Jevan Snead, the guy who lost a QB battle to Colt McCoy and left Texas, was magnificent for the Rebels, throwing the go-ahead TD with one minute left on fourth down – seemingly scrambling forever – and we’re eager to watch Houston Nutt pull some upsets this season. A WF loss would have almost surely meant no ranked ACC teams this week, which would have been awesome.

San Diego State 13, Notre Dame 21: Three minutes left in the fourth, but Irish QB Jimmy Clausen had an uneven afternoon UNTIL THE FOURTH QUARTER, when he threw two TD passes (three overall) as the Irish avoided an embarrassing loss. (two TDs, two ints – one in the end zone, and one that wasn’t his fault), and win or lose, the kid’s going to be scrutinized for struggling For three quarters, the Irish struggled mightily to move the ball against a defense that gave up over 400 yards last week to Cal Poly.

Colorado 31, Eastern Washington 24: Colorado trailed by a TD with three minutes left, but scored and then immediately had a pick-6 to seal a shitty afternoon for the Northwest. With that offense, the Buffs are going to catch somebody napping later this year.

ECU 24, West Virginia 3: Still in progress, but The Pirates are the new South Florida. Proving last week’s triumph over Virginia Tech was no fluke, ECU destroyed the shell-shocked and defenseless Mountaineers. Skip Holtz will be mentioned for any major college openings next season (Iowa? Florida State? Penn State?) and we’re already projecting a massive ECU feature in USA Today this week.

Oklahoma 52, Cincinnati 26: Still in progress, but not in doubt. Sam Bradford threw for nearly 400 yards and five scores and the best offense in the country rolled up 600 yards against an experienced Bearcats secondary.
