EliteXC: Heat Live-Blog
MMA, Television October 4th. 2008, 9:00pm
Welcome! Thanks for joining us tonight. We should be in for a fairly good show. I might type in the third person tonight. In addition to my typing like a typical blogger, we’ve got two of the absolute biggest and least-accomplished names in Mixed Martial Arts on display tonight.
The recently disrobed, first lady of MMA, Gina Carano and former homeless guy/porno shoot body guard, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson.
The latest, most disappointing news, is that Ken Shamrock apparently fell down a flight of stairs and dislocated his hip. I made the hip part up, but the fact remains: Ken Shamrock will not be fighting Kimbo Slice tonight. This has caused quite a bit of disappointment in my living room as we were all looking forward to this fight. The biggest loser in all this, is Patrick Imig, who poured his little blogger heart into Shamrock’s professional wrestling retrospective.
The replacement for Shamrock has yet to be announced. Supposedly they’re going to take someone from the undercard. I hope it’s Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. If you remember, she’s the one who was mercilessly beating the ass of another girl during the last CBS card. She thought the referee was stopping the fight because it was such an impressive beat down, so she ran across the octagon and jumped on top of the cage to celebrate. After a few moments of elation, she realized that the fight was still going on and immediately went back to kicking the other girl’s ass. Hopefully, her fight finds it’s way onto prime time tonight.
Speaking of prime time…
We have 5 fights with 100 possible minutes of fight scheduled. The telecast is scheduled for 120 minutes.
Shamrock looks like he got a pretty nasty cut. The guy replacing him is… well, let’s just say his name is tough to spell. As soon as I figure out who he is, I might post it here.
We’re nearly 10 minutes in, and the fights haven’t started.
Frank Shamrock just called his brother out for possibly ruining the Shamrock family’s legacy. You can tell Ken is the adopted brother in the family.
The fact that there is currently enough time for the fights to run back-to-back-to-back and just end in time for the evening news doesn’t concern anyone. Except me. I freaking love the evening news.
I apologize for referring to the EliteXC ring as an Octagon. There are like 13 sides or something here. I’m not sure what that is called.
I wish my name was ninja.
Ninja is getting his ass kicked. Hay-maker after hay-maker. Wow.
Oh, here’s tonight’s lineup:
- Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. Ken Shamrock
- Champ Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley (for EliteXC welterweight title)
- Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson
- Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobold-Gavin
- Benji Radach vs. Murilo “Ninja” Rua
You’re currently watching Benjie Radach punch Murillo Rua in the face.
This is some good old fashioned wrasslin. I think the fact that both of these guys are out on their feet has something to do with the fight slowing down.
Our first Jason Mewes sighting of the night. Zack and Miri make a Porno looks good.
Radach is a hero. And he just knocked out Ninja Rua for the 4th or 5th time tonight. This time it’s official.
Woman want to open up a can… when they’re cooking. (My roommate said that – I stole it.)
Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobold-Gavin
Kobold said she wanted to break something beautiful tonight. Well, she certainly couldn’t do that if she fell down.
Kelly Kobold has aged well for a 25-year-old, eh?
Email from Stephen in parts unknown:
a 13 sided polygon is a triskaidecagon. I commented that too, but feel free to mention how awesome I am / how awesome my blog is.
Actually, it’s from fetch. He lives in Canada or some shit. I guess I’m supposed to mention MLJ, but I’m not going to.
Sorry for the lack of updates during the Carano fight, but my wings just got here. And the fight lasted about 4 minutes.
Back to the wings.
Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson
This ought to be quick. Arlovski is an animal and Nelson is… chubby.
Seriously, Nelson is fat. Arlovski should win by the time this posts.
Guess not. Boooring.
Bryant Reeves has really let himself go.
Tito Ortiz sure looks sharp. He ought to beat the shit out of a couple people in XC beforehe gets a title shot and gets destroyed.
I can see it now: Ortiz-Shamrock IV on UPN!
Yet another ass-kicking. Arlovski looked good. This definitely worked out well for EXC. A top fighter came in and put on a decent show. (When he didn’t have a fat guy laying on top of him)
Now it’s time for the second of the three main events. Woo!
Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley
The Dodgers just took a 2-0 lead against the Cubs. Is it safe to assume that any team that traded for Manny Ramirez would make the World Series this season?
Jake Shields is EliteXC’s first real star. Let’s see if that lasts.
Good hustle by Shields. Obviously he’s been told to hurry the fuck up. We’ve got the evening news on deck!
Before this gets going, what’s the over/under on number of minutes before Tina Fey shows up on SNL tonight? I’m going with .1 minutes.
I’ve just been schooled – Frank Shamrock is also adopted.
Shields was dominating, but not really doing any damage. Hey – it’s Kimbo! Yes, that is what’s up.
Hulk and Brooke Hogan are in attendance. Is it weird that I made them sound like a couple?
And Shields wins.
Time for Kimbo. Nice. I’ve been waiting months for Kimbo Slice – Seth… McFarland?
Kimbo Slice vs. Seth Petruzelli
Frank Shamrock just said EXC would have a new superstar if Petruzelli wins. Or, they would have one less star. Same thing…
Was Rocky Balboa some sort of underdog?
What a beard. And the complete horse shoe… what a look.
Is one of his… breasts(?) shaved?
If Bozo the clown had cornrows…
How do you get the nickname, “The Silverback?”
KIMBO SLICE IS DEAD!
EliteXC is done. Kimbo Slice is done. It’s over. It’s all over. Dana White is smiling, MMA fans are laughing.
Kimbo Slice is who we thought he was.
Petruzelli is now the biggest name in…just kidding. He’s still a nobody. Keep your eyes open for Ortiz-Shamrock 4! Coming sometime in 2012!
Well, good night everyone. Drive safely. And enjoy Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin on SNL tonight.

I’m sorry, this isn’t the middle of the summer. Kimbo blew it in his last fight, Brock Lesnar took his MMA buzz. With playoff baseball and college football on, this will only get “commercial peeks”.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Cubs game is much, much, much more important to me than any stupid event Gary Shaw Inc. puts on.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
what is going on?
How was he gonna fight with 6 stitches on his eye?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
I just gave it a “please don’t give up a Grandslam to Prince” peek. Think I’m done with that.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:10 PM
Cubs sucking is like the cowboys sucking: they will draw thier home cut of playoffs and nothing else.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:12 PM
frank shamrock: what a great heel
October 4th, 2008 at 9:13 PM

I guess this shows whether people read the entries before commenting on them.
Gina should have come out in her Gladiator outfit.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:44 PM
oh…and duckworth is as dead as a doorknob pal. travis henry might as well be as well.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:45 PM
(Sigh.)
October 4th, 2008 at 9:46 PM
CRM- It’s a triskaidecagon
October 4th, 2008 at 9:46 PM
hahaha. Thanks denver
October 4th, 2008 at 9:47 PM
Denverpilot – I think that was reported here. (This is where I would put the link to this post)
October 4th, 2008 at 9:48 PM
didnt see it crm. cheers!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Just got here. You guys hear Shamrock’s out?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:55 PM
Duckworth died? again?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:55 PM
I think Gina’s got this one wrapped up.
October 4th, 2008 at 9:55 PM
He did?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:56 PM
CRM, aren’t you supposed to answer your reader e-mails, a la sobel?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:57 PM
does “what a fight” equals “what a one sided ass-whipping”?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:59 PM
Shamrock’s out? Where’d you hear that?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:00 PM
Gamboa is fighting on HBO at 10. I think that’ll be a much better fight. Don’t miss it.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
NickP – That fight’s probably not going to start for at an hour though, right?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:03 PM
Probably. I’m not sure what the undercard looks like.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:04 PM
They just interviewed Chuck Liddell on ESPN. He really wants to outdrink Chris Spielman, apparently.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Thank you, CRM. You’re an honorary Canadian for the night.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Shamrock looks pretty old and washed up now. With his WWE/f background, are you sure hit didn’t try to cut himself on purpose to build drama and a fixed Kimbo win?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:07 PM
Fedor is going to get as much screen time as any of the fighters tonight on the card.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:09 PM
L
October 4th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
oops
Gina less attractive than normal
October 4th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
“L”??
October 4th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Less attractive how? She has a fat lip and a swollen eye?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
does he need to get a special mouthpiece to accomodate the fangs?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
I think I’d rather watch the Dodgers eliminate the Cubs than this fight.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Haha that guy is so fat it’s funny. What the fuck how do you fight like that?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Is there more to ultimate fighting than 2 guys rolling on the ground on top of each other? I’ve tried to give this sport a chance and this is all I see every time. I guess this just isn’t my thing.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Damn, Mizzou hasn’t had a three and out ALL SEASON. Shit.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Texas has allowed 1 rush yard and there’s less than 8 minutes to go in this game. “Upset Special” my ass.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Lets see is Harden has any walk problems tonight. He has been walking people like crazy. All that said, Harden is the guy you want on the mound in a must win.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:23 PM
MIZZOU vs. OK State next weekend at Faurot Field is gonna be a good one.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:24 PM
@ nwilson: You coming down here for Texas-Missouri the following weekend?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:26 PM
Mizzou is unreal on offense — it’s too bad I’ve had to realize this while laying money on NEB +10.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:26 PM
random fact of the night: Ron Darling was a dual major in French and Southeast Asian history.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:29 PM
Guess we won’t be hearing any “Go Cubs Go” chants tonight. What a shame.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:35 PM
praying for a limbo rout and Wisconsin and a solid uppercut
October 4th, 2008 at 10:36 PM
@Lance, I was scheduled too, but my grandfather just passed and I wouldn’t feel right about it. Colt vs. Daniel will be as good as that matchup could possibly get right?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:37 PM
TBL – iPhone’s keyboard not treating you well tonight, or have you dipped into the painkillers again?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Replace Colt with Sam Bradford and Daniel with Todd Reesing.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
something about a one loss team makes Reesing not as important anymore.
/had too
October 4th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
I’m sorry about your loss wilson, do what you gotta do man. Hopefully the game will be a back-and-forth offensive battle, a-la cowboys-eagles was on monday night a few weeks ago.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
I took Missouri, and I felt like that was stealing before the game started. Beliefs confirmed.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:41 PM
haha cmon now, nwilson. there are a couple more coming, they still have to play Oklahoma.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:44 PM
I actually can’t believe MU has a couple of stops tonight. Impressive. I guess. Nebraska has a good qb, but he’s too antsy.
.11 left, I see another score coming.
@Lance, we can only hope.
@fetch, I fear Texas.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:46 PM
Damn
October 4th, 2008 at 10:47 PM
These next two weeks are going to be beyond tough for Texas; Oklahoma is always a challenge, and Missouri scares me. Hearing the numbers that Chase Daniel is putting up this season worries me.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:49 PM
really, nwilson? I’m not too afraid of Texas to be honest. If they beat Oklahoma or play them tough we’ll see, but I think OU is head and shoulders above everyone else right now.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Whats crazy tonight is MU is running at will. 5+ a carry probably
October 4th, 2008 at 10:49 PM
I’m watching “Rude Boy”, a documentary on “The Clash”. If any of you guys or girls come down to Austin, visit Waterloo Records on 6th and Lamar. Amazing record selection (lots of vinyl too), a wall of music DVDs, and they often have bands play right in the store.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:51 PM
I love the set up though. MU beats Texas (in a close one) and OU runs the table, back at the Big 12 Championship. I will have a ticket this time. You know what they say about beating somebody 3 in a row. Wait, that’s in one season. Damn.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:52 PM
I love how an EliteXC live blog turned to college football talk. Sorry Ron.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:53 PM
did osu just get screwed? it looked like the receiver fumbled the ball on the end around at the goal line. the ball roller thru the end zone. isn’t that a touchback for osu?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:54 PM
His knee was down first. Otherwise, it was a TD.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:54 PM
LanceBriggsLambo – No worries here.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:54 PM
I miss Joe Strummer.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:55 PM
sweet braces, Frank Shamrock.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:56 PM
just to continue this from the other thread to answer questions
i was bet that i couldnt eat only peanuts for seven days straight. the stakes were that if i win i get to punch my roommate in the stomach and one of our friends buys me a burger king king costume. if i lose i have to adopt the pirates as my baseball team.
youre goddamn right i did. 24 hours strong right now. i fucking love peanuts, i eat the shells too.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Was Death Magnetic any good?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:58 PM
I wonder if Fedor will be back.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:01 PM
Pryor!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 11:01 PM
@LBL – I love it.
@GSG – That’s still up in the air.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:01 PM
i wondered how the comment total doubled in just a few minutes. should have known it was thread hijacking. :>
/time for main event
October 4th, 2008 at 11:02 PM
“The Silver Back”. The nickname just screams Kimbo.
/mildly racist sounding.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Pryor was the man on that drive.
Hartline owes Robiskie one taint licking for falling on that fumble.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Finally, Pryor does something good.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:03 PM
I can’t root for anyone that has random patches of neon pink in his hair…unless they’re in some british punk band.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:03 PM
Hartline/Robiskie both suck. They shouldn’t even be playing.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:05 PM
why did kimbo shave HALF of his chest?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Why does his only have one patch of chest hair?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:06 PM
He wanted to shave a landing strip
October 4th, 2008 at 11:08 PM
@CRM: Pitchfork gave “Death Magnetic” a 4.9 (out of 10), which I guess means they took a step in the right direction compared to St. Anger (they gave that a 0.8), and while I don’t always agree with the hipster pricks that work at pitchfork, at least they know what they’re talking about.
I don’t understand what has happened to Metallica in the past 10 or so years, but I’m reluctant to go near them. Your two cents would be appreciated here.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:08 PM
OK someone needs to answer two questions…why the pink hair? and why does Kimbo only have one little patch of chest hair?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:08 PM
THe Hulk might start fighting to pay that alimony
October 4th, 2008 at 11:08 PM
omg
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Wow…14 seconds?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
That wasn’t a waste of time at all.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Bullshit
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
KIMBO’S DONE!!!!!!!!!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
Thanks CRM
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
KIMBO IS DEAD
October 4th, 2008 at 11:09 PM
CRM is crying right now.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:10 PM
FRAUD
October 4th, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Gus Johnson should have really chosen to slip out of the building and away from EliteXC instead of yelling BELIEVE! and what not.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Well that ends that experiment.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:10 PM
take down that ref, kimbo!
October 4th, 2008 at 11:11 PM
I’m almost not afraid to see Kimbo in a dark alley!
/would still shit my pants
October 4th, 2008 at 11:12 PM
KO’ed in 14 seconds by a dude with pink highlights in his hair.
/Kimbo Slice’s career.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Kimbo its not all good.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:14 PM
well, it was likely the last CBS show anyway.
what a way to go out
October 4th, 2008 at 11:14 PM
@Mike NYC – I’m laughing my ass off.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:15 PM
OSU stole a win, Kimbo got pwned, and now I get to watch the Cubs get swept.
Good times. Good times.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:15 PM
It’s all good!
/I won, right?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:16 PM
Who knew there was glass underneath that beard?
October 4th, 2008 at 11:16 PM
sport of the future my fat black ass
October 4th, 2008 at 11:16 PM
I put the movie on pause on saw the highlights, and the other highlights. Insanity.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:16 PM
We still gonna have the afterparty! Holla at your boy!
Kimbo must get his loss recovering tips from Chuck Liddell.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Somebody is gonna get shot at the afterparty.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Nice Tampa.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Stole a win?
Check out the dude’s wiki page. It keeps changing.
Currently his method of victory is:
October 4th, 2008 at 11:24 PM
General public to Kimbo..”You were who we thought you were”
Thanks for playing Kimbo, you’re 15 minutes of fame is up.
Back to boning Reality King groupies
October 4th, 2008 at 11:25 PM
Kimbo is now known as Kimbo “What a Joke” Slice…
October 4th, 2008 at 11:27 PM
P.S. That wasn’t Brooke Hogan, I believe that is Hulk’s new lady friend who oddly looks like Brooke Hogan. Google it, they’ve been together for some time and the media says it’s creepy too.
