JD Drew Has Done This Before
Baseball October 4th. 2008, 10:56am
For all his faults as an injury-prone player, J.D. Drew has had some big hits in his day. Last night, Drew corked a two-run homer off Francisco Rodriguez in the 9th to give the Red Sox a 7-5 win and a 2-0 lead in the ALDS. It wasn’t the first time Drew hit a big-time home run off a big-time pitcher. In the 2001 NLDS, Drew hit an 8th inning homer off Curt Schilling to snap Schilling’s shutout and force a 1-1 tie. The Diamondbacks went on to win with two outs in the 9th to take the series, but Drew’s homer gave the Cardinals a real chance to take the series.
During Game 6 of the ‘07 ALCS, Drew hit a grand slam off Fausto Carmona in the first inning to set the tone for the rest of the series. And just three months ago, Drew hit a two-run homer off Edinson Volquez in the 7th inning of the All Star game. The AL would eventually win 4-3, which could actually prove to be important for the Sox going forward.
And in the event you haven’t watched TV or picked up a newspaper, the Rays took a 2-0 lead in their series with a 6-2 victory.Â

Is your headline a battlestar galactica reference?
/It’s okay, you can admit it.

Imagine if the Red Sox with J.D. Drew play the Dodgers with Manny in the World Series. That’d be a little strange.

i really don’t want the red sox to go the world series but it will be fun to watch if they play the dodgers.

That would be very interesting to see.
And no, Hef, I’ve actually never seen what you speak of; but seeing as I admittedly watch professional wrestling, I’m sure I’d be able to enjoy it. Maybe. Possibly.

does imig stand for anything particular?

I’d like to see Drew stick it to the Phillies just to see if they’re over it yet.

Hef, not than anyone is counting, but it looks like i might go 4-for-4 in my first round baseball predictions. Not that it means anything, of course. How are your picks looking?

TBL, have you ever done live-betting on WSEX? Made the Sox game even more interesting last nite.
October 4th, 2008 at 12:32 PM
TBL: 3-4. Didn’t pick the Dodgers.

No one asks me for my predictions? Assholes. Just kidding, but I’m 3-4 as well, but like a dumbass I picked the Brewers.
October 4th, 2008 at 12:47 PM
I’m 0-4, but I never wrote my picks down so I can’t prove it.

I’m 4-0. I also warned of the Fannie and Freddie disaster 17 years ago.

It would have been funnier if you had said 9 years ago when the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act repealed the Glass-Steagall Act which regulated financial services.

When Drew is healthy, he hits. It’s always been that way.
