Cops Rough Up Brandon Backe at Wedding Reception
Baseball, Tasers October 7th. 2008, 1:30pm
What is the deal with rowdy wedding celebrations? Perhaps we’re not running in the right circles, because we’ve never seen a brawl or police at a wedding. Remember the bride who was tasered at her wedding earlier this year? Houston Astros pitcher Brandon Backe went to a wedding last weekend, and the after-party took pace at a hotel bar. Yada, yada, yada … Backe was kicked and punched in the face by the boys in blue, one guy was tasered and handcuffed, and there’s even insane video of it!

I’m blaming Bud Selig for this one as well.

I read about this in the Chronicle and I couldn’t understand why anyone would be having their wedding in Galveston. That place was hammered by Hurricane Ike.

I just watched the video on this, and that guy screaming after he got tassered is still ringing in my ears.

I’d expect this kind of language (and fighting) at Denny’s but not here!

I’m guessing the cops were Astros fans?

First there is a wedding (rarely any cops involved), then there is a reception (slightly higher chance of poilice involvement but not much), then there is “the after-party took pace at a hotel bar”. Now if you have to “after party” the wedding reception, you may have a problem and I don’t think it is un-reasonable to think the cops would probably show up at some point or another at such an event.

Don’t mess with Texas.

Also, it is nice to see Houston’s channel 11 news team ripped its set from Extra. FTW?

One of my cousin’s had a wedding where a couple got into a fist fight on the dance floor then the cops were called and the fight went outside where all the guys were trouncing the guy who was beating his GF on the dance floor and ended with the another guest taking off his shirt and jumping in the Cop car and slowly rolling it out of the parking lot waving and yelling…I don’t think I have to say he got arrested. It was fucking embarrassing as hell…My cousin is no longer married to the guy. Those people were their friends and not my family…I am sure clown will make jokes to the contrary

Remember when Backe got in the Pujols’ face before a game, pissed the Pujols off, then the Pujols went yard twice in the game? Again proving, don’t piss off the Pujols.

Maggs, you watch Extra?!
October 7th, 2008 at 2:14 PM
I meant Entertainment Tonight. And, no I don’t have cable or a television. I am the most pessimistic person you have ever met.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:16 PM
@maggs- i dont think you are. I was making in fun of the person who said that to you. I actually like what you have to say on this site

Judging by his reaction to giving up 10 runs to the Cubs earlier this year, this does not surprise me
October 7th, 2008 at 2:16 PM
Thats why I watch Channel 13

@irish
Yea I know, Mizerle’s comment was the single gayest moment ever on this site.

Damn video won’t work for me, missing out on good lunch time theater
October 7th, 2008 at 2:28 PM
Maggs, I beg to differ. Two guys on here were having a discussion on where to have their weddings yesterday. That’s WAY gayer.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:28 PM
@Billy Buckner- I was just going to mention that. Obviously, the guy not only has anger management issues, but really shitty judgement on top of that.

@sportsgal
I am glad I left that comment-versation when I did. It seemingly got MUCH gayer once I left and the “men” started defending their wedding plan talk. Oh Gawd.

A friend of mine was at a wedding this summer and told me this story. His drunk cousin was pissing in the urinal next to the groom at the reception. For some reason, his cousin decided to say to the groom, “just so you know, you’re the only guy here who hasn’t had her yet”. As you might expect, this did not sit well with the groom and the fight was on.

Backe will forever have a free pass in my book – in the two best baseball games I ever attended, he was pitching (Game 5 v. SL in 2004 and Game 4 v. SL in 2005)
