Confine Your Political Thoughts to This Space
1-liner, Politics, Video October 8th. 2008, 8:45amThat One: McCain was on the offensive, and a couple times, even funny! Clearly, he doesn’t like Barry, as evidenced by the non-handshake at the night’s end. Tom Brokaw was in control of the debate last night in the same way we could control our bowel movements the last time we went to Tijuana. And for Brokaw hilarity: Bukkake.

And for
Brokawoverall hilarity: Imagine McCain doing a jumping jack.October 8th, 2008 at 8:49 AM
What does “that one” mean?
October 8th, 2008 at 8:49 AM
mccain needs a hair transplant!
October 8th, 2008 at 8:51 AM
Who cares if they didn’t shake hands? I don’t shake people’s hands I don’t like. For example, when I got fired on Monday, I didn’t shake my boss’s hand; I just glared at him, as if to say “you freaking idiot. You trained me for 3 weeks, let me try this job for 1 week, and then decided I wasn’t very good at it. Sure, you may give me a great reference on my resume, but your still an ass hat.”

Maybe we can all just agree this race is all but over and move on to discussion another inevitable Philadelphia heartbreak? Series starts tonight, right?
October 8th, 2008 at 8:53 AM
cracker jack: McCain’s signature line from last night.
“You know who voted for the energy bill? That one.”
Rockets: Played hoops last night. The other team bitched and moaned and two guys fouled out and it was tense at times. At game’s end, we still did the ‘good game’ hand slap. These are professionals running for the highest office in the land.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:54 AM
no. phillies series starts thursday.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:55 AM
TBL: I know he said it. I’m wondering what he meant by it. Seemed very condescending at least.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:55 AM
@TBL- Ron Artest looked good. How bout Jamison on the Wizs? he got hurt
October 8th, 2008 at 8:56 AM
I don’t care for McCain, but they did shake hands. It was when Brokaw told both of them that they were in the way of his teleprompter.
October 8th, 2008 at 8:58 AM
i thought mccains signature line was “my friends” x about100
October 8th, 2008 at 8:59 AM
What happened to the one minute time limit they were supposed to follow? If they cannot follow that simple rule, what makes me believe they can lead our country
October 8th, 2008 at 9:00 AM
TBL, fair point, and I hadn’t thought of it in that sense. I was thinking (maybe media creation) that they need to act like they like each other and such. Like the question being asked if Hillary and Bill are trying/helping Obama enough. That’s what I meant.
@Irish: Any interest in a Fantasy NBA?
October 8th, 2008 at 9:00 AM
@TBL — Fair enough. Political talk all day!
@clown — You are correct, sir. Even so, it was still a weird moment to watch. McCain tapping him on the back, then not looking at him when Obama turned. At this point, I think it’s obvious McCain DESPISES him.
Which will make it more enjoyable when he has to call him Mister President.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:02 AM
i did enjoy watching mccain wander around the stage when he wasn’t talking.
overall, I didn’t learn anything new during the debate, but Obama was stronger and more forceful than McCain on national security issues, which surprised me. McCain sure has some hate for Obama…
and on a side note, Cindy McCain wouldn’t even touch the Obama’s afterward, and the bugged out of there within a minute while the Obama’s talked to everyone and took pictures with them, thought that was a cool gesture.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:02 AM
Bukkake? That link was misleading.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:04 AM
Kind of reminded me of Brodeur not shaking Avery’s hand after that Rangers/Devils playoff game last year.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:04 AM
It seems to me that a lot of points were left on the table. The townhall format is good because it gives a good sense of the average American’s concerns, but I felt that the 1 minute follow-up questions should have been 1 minute rebuttals instead. That would have helped it go a bit smoother.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:04 AM
McCain is a little racist. That whole “Gold Plated Cadillac” thing was weird and after he said it he looked a little guilty.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:04 AM
Agreed Tampa Bo. Sadly misleading indeed.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:05 AM
@Rocketsfan- thanks for asking but i am already involved in one
October 8th, 2008 at 9:15 AM
Irish – listening to local radio this morning, the Jamison injury doesn’t sound real good. If he misses signifigant time, my boys are fucked.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:15 AM
@Tampa Bo — I think he might be a little racist, perhaps. He was definitely condescending to the black guy early in the debate who asked a question about the bailout.
“But you know, one of the real catalysts, really the match that lit this fire was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I’ll bet you, you may never even have heard of them.”
Yeah, John. I’m just stupid common folk who can barely read.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:18 AM
Can somebody bring a sign to the next debate that just reads: I LIKE POLITICS!
October 8th, 2008 at 9:18 AM
Sportsdork-Thats Oliver real stand up kid.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
if they magically do one in cleveland, i’ll volunteer, Mags.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:20 AM
YES Mags. Love it.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:21 AM
that was one of the funniest signs i have ever seen…I like baseball…too good
October 8th, 2008 at 9:23 AM
TBL — Excellent call on Tom Brokaw’s level of control last night. I almost felt bad for the guy.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:25 AM
Brokaw was a dick last night.
how many syllables does the word “news” have, Tom?
October 8th, 2008 at 9:25 AM
GREATEST SIGN EVER.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:28 AM
@maggs- the Magic just picked up ReDICKs option to stay with Orlando. He gets paid $2.8 mill to ride the pine
October 8th, 2008 at 9:29 AM
irish…you see any highlights from the blazers game? fuckin’ oden looked beastmode.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:30 AM
@spencer- sure did. He looked good but it is only preseason. Dwight Howard had 8 blocks the other night, but you didnt hear me yapping about it(i just did)
October 8th, 2008 at 9:30 AM
true. but when mccain tapped him on the shoulder, obama turned to extend his hand, and mccain offered up his wife’s instead, and then did the Top Gun turn and burn.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:31 AM
shhhhhh! post coming.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:31 AM
that’s because it’s commonplace for dwight to do that…give oden some time, he’ll be d-ho west.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:31 AM
aight…we’ll cut it out, TBL.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:31 AM
shhhhhh! post coming
oh god. let the hype machine start
October 8th, 2008 at 9:32 AM
Oden can hit ‘em lefty or righty.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:33 AM
Didn’t they shake hands while standing in front of the Brokaw’s monitor? They came together right in front of the camera and you could see Brokaw’s face between their shoulders. The way they motioned toward one another, it looked like a handshake.
But, yes, McCAin did blow off Obama afterwards and instead Obama shook McCain’s wife’s hand.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:34 AM
true. but when mccain tapped him on the shoulder, obama turned to extend his hand, and mccain offered up his wife’s instead, and then did the Top Gun turn and burn.
Then he acted like oh look at this fucking guy he wont shake my hand.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:35 AM
Oden can hit ‘em lefty or righty
good for him. Lets see him play one full season, maybe two full seasons in a row.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:44 AM
There was a debate last night? How did Palin do?
October 8th, 2008 at 9:57 AM
I wonder how Joe Six Pack felt about the debate. Golly jee!
October 8th, 2008 at 10:16 AM
More winking please!
October 8th, 2008 at 10:19 AM
McCain funny? If you consider lame attempts at humor and transparent disdain funny… I guess.
Each time McCain attempted to go on the offensive, Barry quickly and efficiently stunted him. Game over, man, game over.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Obama is favored, but it’s hardly over.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
I wish one of the town hall members would have had the balls to say, “Candidates, I’m about to ask you a question, do you think you can answer it first before you start bashing the other candidate?”
October 8th, 2008 at 11:34 AM
McCain came across as a bitter old man. This is his last shot at being the Prez., Bush screwed him over 8 years ago and now this election is slipping away….he is bitter.
The McCain’s made a swift exit while the Obama’s took pictures with the crowd and shook hands.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:03 PM
You cant let those common folk touch you, you have no idea the diseases they are carrying.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:24 PM
you need to look more at the state by state numbers to get a better picture of where this election is
October 8th, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Obama is favored, but it’s hardly over.
I’ll pay attention to national polls after we abolish the electoral college.
