Brady Quinn Stumps for John McCain
NFL, Politics, Video October 9th. 2008, 11:00amJoe Thomas, too. But are they too late? Depending on what poll you want to believe, this battleground state may not vote the same way it did in 2004. Anybody know if Tim Tebow has plans to try and change the mind of Florida voters? Polls can be deceptive, and we put very little stock in them, but apparently, McCain could use the help of the State’s prodigal son. Probably won’t happen this week, what with the LSU game on the horizon.

I always base my vote on what celebrities and athletes endorse. They know so much more than I.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:03 AM
Oh, boy — this is going to get ugly.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:03 AM
The Republicans suddenly have a shot at the gay vote!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:05 AM
CRM beat me to it.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:05 AM
Quinn threw a hail mary for the McCain campaign, only for it to be intercepted somehow by an LSU defensive back.
/reach.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:07 AM
must continue to stay out of political arguments…must not make statement…must not…
aw fuck it…
DAMNIT JOE, YOU’RE SMARTER THAN THAT…

October 9th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Paying Quinn to stump for McCain. Yet another dirty tactic from the left.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
a pink elephant? thats a bit on the nose dont you think?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:09 AM
DS – Now that’s funny.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:09 AM
Brady Quinn usually stumps for younger fellas.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:09 AM
Will NickkkP follow the Global Icon’s favorite?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:10 AM
Brady Quinn saw all the old white dudes and assumed he was supporting the Lemon Party.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Seriously, will Brady Quinn be involved with anything successful in 2008?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
poor McCain. Obama gets Agent 0 and Greg Oden and Mac gets stuck with Brady Quinn. Tough month for gramps.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Gods- That Palin quote by Arenas was funny as shit.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:13 AM
Brady fucking Quinn is the state’s prodigal son? Fuck outta here.
Clown: No.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Maybe I’m not politically engaged enough, but who are the people who attend campaign rallies? I guess I should be as pumped up about a candidate as I would be for my favorite team. But watching and listening to the crowd reactions–screaming, over-laughing at jokes, etc.–it reminds me of Fight Club. And this is on both sides.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:14 AM
But McCain has Jon Voight’s LeBaron!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Cheer up John;I guarantee 95% of the PGA supports you.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I’ve often wondered this myself. They always take place in the middle of the day on weekdays. Do people honestly take off work to go see stump speeches we’ve heard over and over?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:15 AM
That’s must be why Quinn is still on the bench: his playbook is actually full of back issues of the National Review.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
That > That’s
October 9th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
Fixed
October 9th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
And really, this scene should have ended with Brady stripping down to a G-string and attempting to give a horrified McCain a lap dance.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
I wish the “cheese doodle” hecklers went to campaign rallies.
“Hey McCain! Just slap that cunt man! YAAAAAAA!!”
That would be awesome.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Maybe I’m not politically engaged enough, but who are the people who attend campaign rallies?
Nutbars who usually decided which way they were voting decades ago. Especially by this point, they’re just preaching to the rabid choir on both sides.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Also heard on the radio that Iceland’s economy is in a meltdown. Maybe we’ll be getting some Icelandic mail-order bride ads soon.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:19 AM
“Do people honestly take off work to go see stump speeches we’ve heard over and over?” gimmea
Yes. KCMO has been a hot spot for the candidates to get to since Missouri is a toss up state. I’ve had coworkers take time off for Barry, Sarah, and Johnny Mac. I do not understand it either. One gal went to see Barry but was worried about crowds and traffic. So, I pulled up the youtube and told her to watch the same speech she would see if she went. She watched and went anyways. She said it was 90% the same. He just changes the local issues to fit the town he is in. This is the same with Johnny as well I assume.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:20 AM
probably…what with numerous financial industry sponsors, they’ll want their endorsements and tourney purses intact.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:22 AM
I read a blurb in Sports Illustrated last night about the kid who created this site. He’s a stat nerd who has been called the Bill James of politics.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:24 AM
theoretical question.. How much closer would this race be right now if the Republicans had nominated Romney?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:24 AM
Tampa: it was awesome. I wish more athletes would actually voice their opinions. Who wouldn’t want to hear what Pacman thinks about the impending recession? I can hear it now, “does that mean that I can’t male it rain on the VIP? That’s some bullshit playa!”
October 9th, 2008 at 11:25 AM
theoretical question: If Jesus came back and ran on the Republican ticket, even then could you really vote republican after what has happened in the last eight years?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:26 AM
I mean things are looking soooooooo good right now. The country has never been better if you ask me. It is a Swiss fucking watch.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:29 AM
How much closer would this race be right now if the Republicans had nominated Romney?
Not much better unless he had the balls to defy his entire party’s line on the economy, and we never saw that in the debates.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Theoretical question: what happens if somehow, someway, the Dems actually blow this one? Do they just disband the entire party and start from scratch?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
Jesus is an independent. so, your theoretical question is unpossible.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:30 AM
ahem, Don’t mean to Sportsgal ya TBL
Prodigal son, from the Apple dictionary:
a person who spends money in a recklessly extravagant way
a person who leaves home and behaves in such a way, but later makes a repentant return
Quinn and Tebow? Nah. Maybe Lebron when his contract runs out with the Brooklyn nets and he returns to lead the Cavs to a title as a 40 year old?

SG-That guy was on Colbert yesterday and he said the Rays are going to win the WS.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Sportsgal..really you just heard about 538? He also happens to be the Bill James of baseball, if that makes any sense.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Well even if they lose the presidency, they are still gaining a majority in the senate and the HoR, so it wouldn’t be a complete disaster.
But back to my question.. neither Obama nor McCain have wowed anyone on the economy (And McCain’s newest “buy up home mortgages plan is the worst of both worlds. Let’s help out the corporations that did this and increase government’s role in the free market).
I know if Romney were in the race I would take a good look at him and might actually vote for a Republican, depending on what his plan would be.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
Tampa, I so hope he’s right.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:37 AM
If McCain had picked Romney as his VP, this race would be neck and neck. Nobody cares about Religion or Gay Marriage or abortion now. That’s all trivial shit. Now that there are real issues, both of these guys look WAYYYYYYYYY out of there element..

MikeNYC-Obviously the Boston Harald is ran by FoxNews.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:39 AM
Yes because I vote for people, not parties. I agree with Dems a lot more than I agree with Republicans, so I normally vote left. But I tend to be more conservative in economic issues, and with the climate as it is right now I could have been persuaded to vote republican given the right candidate.
I also tend to think our government works best when the President is being held in check by the House and Senate. I don’t like seeing the same party in control of all three.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Jesus had the power to stop this mess and he didn’t.
So fuck Jesus.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:40 AM
@sportsgal: About the election or the world series?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:42 AM
And yes, Fetch, that was the first time I’ve heard of him. I’m not a stat nerd like you and Nick P.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:43 AM
@gal: You’re a anti-stat nerd, which is even worse. Take your hands off your ears.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:44 AM
@MikeNYC: That Boston Herald article only cited one poll by Zogby, a pollster whose results haven’t been too accurate. Take a look at all the other polls first.

October 9th, 2008 at 11:48 AM
@mama: What’s the clip? Blocked at work.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:48 AM
Awesome pull mmonast
October 9th, 2008 at 11:49 AM
WTF, that’s the second time my comments haven’t shown up.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:49 AM
WHAT???? Blocked at work??? IF you watch Seinfeld you know what it is
October 9th, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Palin could possibly tolerate that
If they’re lucky.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Devil?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
What’s the clip? Blocked at work.
People in line for a McCain/Palin rally say absurd things like Obama is a terrorist because of his name.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Bingo
October 9th, 2008 at 11:54 AM
thanks august…who would have thought a little hate mongering and inciting crowds with inflammatory speech would have this effect…hey it isnt like people are screaming “kill him!!” about obama at palin rally’s now
oh wait, whats that you say:
glad we cleared that up
October 9th, 2008 at 11:56 AM
RE: mmonast’s link
Does anyone else think that clip is good enough reason to support increasing voting restrictions?
October 9th, 2008 at 11:58 AM
The most important part of this election (for entertainment sake) is to get Al Franken elected. He’s gone from 13 points down to 7 up in the last 2 months. I’ve always said we need better comedy writing at capitol hill.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:58 AM
@iggy – Both
@mama – Actually, I still care about gay marriage, abortion and keeping religion out of politics, but those issues are taking a back seat to the economy, the tax plan and cutting health care costs for me at the moment.
I’m liberal and plan on voting for Obama, but I truly wish McCain would have done a better job during the last debate explaining his platform. Aside from his “buying up mortgages” plan (awful idea), I didn’t get any new insight on his tax plan, his plans to reduce deficit spending, or his ideas for lessening our dependence on oil.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:01 PM
That video is pretty disturbing.
Come on, mmonast — you’re going to editor yourself on this one, right?
October 9th, 2008 at 12:02 PM
The Palin/McCain supporters sound like Cub fans.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Well at least McCain still has his expertise on international affairs and how a Commander in Chief should act towards other countries…. Ooops
October 9th, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Don’t believe that poll. It included something like 45% democrats and less than 30% republicans. Even other pollsters were laughing at it. No way Franken gets elected. Minnesotan’s have a rich history in electing liberal crackpot (Klobuchar) and one republican who used to be a democrat (Coleman) to the senate.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:05 PM
has this gotten ugly yet? can we please keep it clean while i go and look at a cheap used car? i should be back in 2 hrs.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:05 PM
MikeNYC does have a point there. I thought the ‘Kill him’ line was pretty obviously aimed at Ayers when I saw the clip, but isn’t flippantly calling Obama a terrorist also a tacit desire to kill him? I mean, I think most of those people would say yes if asked if they’d kill a terrorist themselves.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:07 PM
Let’s not be naive and pretend like the only whack-jobs are McCain supports…
October 9th, 2008 at 12:08 PM
mike u dont think what they are doing is inflammatory? why else now have the GOP began to again bring up his middle name? Or how about the Republican Party of PA sending out a press release titled “Barack Obama: A terrorists best friend”
these aren’t intended to inflame? c’mon i know you are hard core GOP but even you gotta take issue with these tactics
October 9th, 2008 at 12:10 PM
absolutely not, both side has its crazies
October 9th, 2008 at 12:11 PM
I pulled a groin, what poll are you referring to? And to say “no way Franken gets elected” sounds like you’re flatly ignoring every poll that’s been out over the last month. He may not win, but to assert that there’s “no way Franken gets elected” seems a little stubbornly ignorant don’t you think?
October 9th, 2008 at 12:12 PM
Every soul brother from Dipsee Do to Slappy Thurman be registerin’ to vote. Ain’t even funny.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Mmonast — actually, I thought you were directly referring to Palin’s speech. Apologies. I don’t see the point in using his middle name, though it is a little amusing to see how bent out of shape people get about it, and I’m pretty sure I’ve used it on here myself to get a rise out of a certain Michigan fan.
Ayers is fair game, however. There’s no doubt about that.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:14 PM
and i dunno august, that line came after palin made the connection to obama…could go either way. the secret service thought enough of it to investigate.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:17 PM
no worries mike…and i agree the ayers thing can be talked about, as can keating 5, although i believe the k5 has a little more relevance in terms of whats going on now.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:19 PM
If McCain goes this route he lost already. No one wants to hear this shit. He needs to focus on the feature and the economy.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:20 PM
@cursed. I’m referring the the Star Tribune poll from last week. I see there are a few others now showing Franken in the lead but I’m still not buying it.
I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life. We like our divided government here and that has always meant having one democrat senator and one republican who used to be a democrat. I stand by my comment that Franken has no chance.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:21 PM
The K5 is way more relevant.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:23 PM
October 9th, 2008 at 12:25 PM
the point is to make him sound dangerous, terrorist’y, and not american
its pretty obvious
October 9th, 2008 at 12:27 PM
I meant me, personally.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:28 PM
@ SportsGal… You misinterpreted what I said about abortion, gay marriage, etc… Those are issue that affect maybe 1% of the population, therefore irrelevant to most people. Repubs hang onto that stuff too much. They lose elections b/c of that. You think rural people are going to vote Dem now b/c a repub will legalize gay marriage??? Legalize everything as far as I’m concerned.
/Anyone who is a career politician is a complete moron.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:29 PM
gotcha–i agree its stupid mccain spoke out about it a few months ago…will he do it now?
October 9th, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I don’t see the point in using his middle name,
You’re kidding, right? I don’t remember anyone using the middle names of Kerry, Regan, Dukakis (sp?), Dole, Gore or Clinton over and over.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:48 PM
Mama, all I’m saying is those issues are still important to me. I still care about getting someone in office who won’t elect a supreme court justice who will want to overturn Roe v. Wade and will seek to give equal rights to same sex couples. But I care more about hearing the two candidates’ stances on the state of the economy, their tax plans, and what they want to do with health care.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:50 PM
TBL not generating the comments he would like.
Throw up a political post.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:51 PM
who won’t appoint a supreme court justice
/fixed, though I agree with almost everything you said
October 9th, 2008 at 12:52 PM
but what about ayers!!!you know him and obama sat on the same board once!
October 9th, 2008 at 12:54 PM
@SG, Agreed
October 9th, 2008 at 12:55 PM
It’s not anybody’s fault but your own if you don’t know this by now. How long have these two been campaigning for? And no single person/administration is going to “fix” the economy. If you believe one of them will wave a magic wand and all will be okay, you’re wrong. The market fixes and breaks itself.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:55 PM
@Sportsgal, Do you know what the result of overturning Roe v Wade would be?
October 9th, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Groin – While I _really_ hope that Frankin does not get elected, the cards are starting to line up in his favor. Coleman’s constant negative ads, Dean Barkley pulling in many of the Coleman voters (me included) and the fact there are a huge number of people in this state who would vote for the Democratic candidate in this election no matter what. Could be an interesting 6 years around these parts.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:57 PM
Please no abortion debate
October 9th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Not a debate August, I just want to find out if she knows what would happen if the decision was overturned.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:00 PM
Constitutionally speaking.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:04 PM
Mike, I know their stances, but during these debates, they have the opportunity to explain the HOW AND WHY of their plans. Heaven forbid that I’d like to hear the information from the candidate’s mouth instead of reading it on the internet.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:04 PM
•Evangelicals will lose all interest in politics?
October 9th, 2008 at 1:07 PM
Groin, yes I know what would happen if Roe v Wade was overturned. I can also explain the Krebs Cycle. What the fuck is your point? Were you hoping to prove you’re intelligence is superior to mine? Or were you just trying to be a smug asshole?
October 9th, 2008 at 1:08 PM
SG, the problem with these debates is that the candidates are allowed, what, two minutes to give an answer? And with that time all you’re going to get is sound bites (Corporations are evil! I’m a Maverick on reform!) which mean absolutely nothing.
Brokaw did ask an interesting question the other nite re health care and whether it was a right/service/option, etc., I can’t remember the exact choices. Obama said it was a right, McCain didn’t agree. Now, you don’t get the detailed health care plan of each of them with those answers, but it certainly tells you a lot about each one now, doesn’t it?
October 9th, 2008 at 1:08 PM
Goddamn it, it should be your not you’re. That would have been a much better insult if I used the right grammar. Son of a bitch.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:15 PM
@Mike: the problem with these debates is that there are no follow-up questions, so talking points rule the day and neither has to answer anything from scratch.
Brokaw’s healthcare question was by far the best one of the night, and I’m really happy Obama said the same thing I believe.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:18 PM
Sportsgal, since you obviously don’t know the answer, I’ll explain it to you. The abortion issue would revert back to a state by state issue. Some states would legalize it and some states would allow it. Most people, you include I assume, believe that overturning Roe v Wade would outlaw abortions everywhere thus causing hysteria on the part of the pro abortion folks.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:22 PM
October 9th, 2008 at 1:23 PM
pro abortion

October 9th, 2008 at 1:24 PM
I meant some states would allow it and some would not.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:25 PM
Would would you call it then, August?
October 9th, 2008 at 1:25 PM
legalize weed and tax it.
problems solved.
whoever actually has the gumption to propose this gets my vote and the other 285 million stoners in America.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:28 PM
well mr groin…it seems that (taken from the 2008 GOP official platform) that the GOP supports an amendment to the constitution banning abortion
now, the 14th amendment states
so it seems that they do not want it to be on a state to state level, but instead a nation-wide ban.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:28 PM
oh, and im totally aware that has nothing to do with any discussion going on.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:29 PM
Pro-choice, like everyone else calls it.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:31 PM
It’s pro-choice. And I don’t want to start an abortion debate, so I will say no more.
I don’t smoke weed, and I completely agree with this.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:32 PM
It’s all semantics. You anti-lifers need not get worked up about it.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:32 PM
Well, it’s pro-choice to have an abortion, so, um, you’re both right.
Me too.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:32 PM
sure thing Big Brother.
October 9th, 2008 at 1:35 PM
No there’s a distinction. I don’t like it, in most cases, when a woman chooses to have an abortion. I think it’s normally a poor choice. However, I don’t think the government has the right to tell a woman she can’t make that choice. That would make me anti-abortion, but still pro choice would it not?
October 9th, 2008 at 1:40 PM
Thanks Groin, but I knew the answer to your question and I wasn’t under the assumption it would ban abortion entirely. But your condescending commment makes it extremely easy for me to assume you’re an enormous asshole.
And Go Wings!
October 9th, 2008 at 1:41 PM
@mmonast. I’m not disagreeing with you that the Republican party wants to outlaw abortion. Anyone with half a brain understands that. I’m disagreeing with the widely held incorrect belief that overturning Roe v Wade makes abortion illegal.

It makes sense that Brady Quinn would be against gay marriage, that way he won’t be tempted.
