Price is Right: Rookie Helps Tampa Win Game 7, Sends Rays to the World Series
Baseball October 19th. 2008, 11:40pm
Can’t wait to hear the postgame quotes from Tampa manager Joe Maddon after the Rays’ exhilarating 3-1 Game 7 triumph in the ALCS. Clinging to a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, Boston loaded the bases against a trio of relievers. With Game Five hero JD Drew stepping to the plate, Maddon brought in rookie phenom David Price, a 23-year-old who has just 15 innings on his MLB resume. He joined the team in September.
He fanned Drew, and the Trop exploded. Price walked Jason Bay to open the 9th before retiring the side, sending the Tampa Rays, a team with a $43 million payroll and without a .300 hitter this season, to the World Series.

My favorite thing is how people think David Price is just some schlub they found on the street.

I’m very impressed with the Rays, and I look forward to watching them dominate the Phillies in the World Series.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:43 PM

Congrats Rays!
Whatever happens in the WS, there will be a new champion — either one who hasn’t won it in 2 decades or one who has never won it at all before.

If the Phillies lose to an expansion team, their fans are going to blow up Philly. That’s not even a joke.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:46 PM
Win or lose Philly fans are going to blow up the city
October 19th, 2008 at 11:46 PM
At least this is the last time we have to watch a Craig Sager postgame interview…for about three weeks.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:48 PM
i love awkward looking douches.
How can a douche be awkward looking.
/hehe

At the very least, the Rays should give us a more attractive “fan” base to look at.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:49 PM
@ incongito
True, though I imagine if they won, they’d at least wait until after the victory parade.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Phillies in 5. Mark it down. Cole Hammels MVP.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Somehow, I imagine Curt Schilling will have something to say about all this.
October 19th, 2008 at 11:51 PM

Rays v. Phillies, eh? As a big baseball fan, I’ll watch every game. But I really don’t see the casual fans checking out this game.
He already did…

It means that evil is good and good is dumb…
Bsanders37… Is dungy ever going to draft a d-lineman over 250 pounds, or a cornerback taller than 5′7??? Hoe the fuck is Tim Jennings in the pros????
October 20th, 2008 at 12:10 AM
The Colts have acquired four starting DT’s who were over 300 lbs since the 2005 season. They have 1.)Eaten themselves off the team/developed polyarthritis, 2.)Torn an ACL and never recovered, 3.)Retired after one season, 4.)Been busted for off-field issues and kicked off the team. They have one 300+lb DT on their roster right now, but he’s waiver-wire quality at best.
As for their corners, both Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden are 6-1, 200 and solid. Tim Jennings, though, is a fucking second-round bust who Polian refuses to admit shouldn’t see the field. He’s been getting killed as the nickel for three years now and today his mistakes probably cost the Colts 10 pts due to their timing/extending GB drives.
The way this Colts roster is made up right now is going to make reaching the playoffs this season awfully hard. Mistakes they could cover up in years past are showing up now, and costing them games.

Bourne Ultimatum on MorMax, whatever that is. Have to watch it, though going to bed at 2 is going to give me a case of the Mondays.

Now, all of those long-suffering Rays fans are one step closer to being able to die in peace
October 20th, 2008 at 12:18 AM
wow hines broke rivers’ jaw with that CLEAN block.
if you dont want to get hit by the train, get the fuck off the tracks. you cant be next to the play and stop playing and not expect to get hit. the nfl can fine him all they want, and im sure they will, but that mother fucker plays the game the right way.
October 20th, 2008 at 12:19 AM
judging by the average age of the fans i saw in attendance their suffering will be over soon anyways

I think that Manny Ramirez was the key to everything…
October 20th, 2008 at 12:54 AM
Did the Rays draw more than 12,000 for this one? Other than D.C., I can’t think of a fan base that deserves this less.
October 20th, 2008 at 1:02 AM
hm, after watching that hines block again a few times it looks like he may have hit him with his helmet. either way the blindside part of it was clean and thats what the bengals seemed to be bitching about.
October 20th, 2008 at 2:49 AM
The Bucs won the NFC title game in Philly on the way to the Super Bowl championship.
The Lightning beat the Flyers in the Eastern Conference final on the way to the Stanley Cup.
The Rays now play the Phillies for the World Series.
How much will Philadelphia fans hate Tampa Bay if the Rays win?
October 20th, 2008 at 6:44 AM
fuck the casual fan. casual fans should not run sports.
+1
BUT THE RAYS ARE BAD FOR BASEBALL! WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
October 20th, 2008 at 7:18 AM
wow hines broke rivers’ jaw with that CLEAN block.
by hines standards it was clean, but he still went high. just shows the kind of player he is how he relishes blindsiding defenders who are not really in the play to make him seem like a tough player.
October 20th, 2008 at 8:30 AM
Leading with your helmet is not clean.
October 20th, 2008 at 9:13 AM
just long enough until they move down here (lotsa philly transplants down here).
October 20th, 2008 at 10:47 AM
