So is Colt McCoy Really Staying Another Year?
1-liner, College Football October 23rd. 2008, 10:30amColt McCoy: The Sporting News interviewed McCoy, and the Heisman Trophy runner talked about how he is staying at Texas for his senior year. In an interview with Dan Patrick last week (in SI this week), McCoy gave the exact same quotes. We have no empirical data to back this up, but when someone is giving canned responses like this in October, it might mean they’ve already discussed the future with their “people” and they’re as good as gone. If Texas goes unbeaten and McCoy wins the Heisman, there’s no way he stays to become the next Matt Leinart.

Dan Patrick’s been talking about this on today’s radio show. They were saying that the Sporting News breaks news stories, while they only sprain them.

If McCoy leaves early he’d probably be the #1 pick by either the Lions or Chiefs.

regarding the Leinart ref:
he won the title and the heisman (i believe) and then should have come out. but he stayed, his game was heavily scrutinized, he got bored and started partying and hanging with celebs, lost to vince young, and then lost millions as he fell to 10th in the draft.
still hasn’t recovered

colt mccoy as an nfl quarterback???
i love watching the guy and to be honest, his wannabe tv anchorbabe girlfriend is hot as hell. but this guy is just another major applewhite running a gimmicky flavor-of-the-decade offense.
he’s got about as much a chance of making the nfl as jay barker or eric crouch.

I really don’t think Leinart sticking around for his senior season had anything to do with the fact that he’s sitting on the bench right now.

TBL…you realize if leinart came out his junior year he’d be on the 49ers throwing to arnez battle, isaac bruce and…vernon davis? rather than boldin and fitz…he sucks in ‘zona, and he’d be better with worse players around him? im not buyin it.

I’m with jimmy, McCoy is no NFL QB, he doesn’t have anywhere near the arm strength, he makes Colt Brennan’s arm look strong. Sure, he can he catch on somewhere and be a successful backup, but thats no 1st round pick.

i think colt may even realize the nfl may not be his bag and that is why he will stay for his senior year. having said that, he would have to be a better back up than 40 yr old brad johnson.

Guaranteed the media relations guys at Texas had him memorize an answer for that question. What’s funny is the only people asking are national media, because the beat writers already know there’s a rehearsed answer.
