Does Sal Pal Feel the Same Way About Brett Favre as He Does About Barry Sanders?
NFL October 24th. 2008, 9:45am
Hey Sports Guys in Denver, will you update your podcast page? We received an email yesterday from a listener who claims ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio went on the show this week and reportedly took a few shots at Brett Favre. Sal Pal supposedly even used the word “slurps” to describe how ESPN is handling the Jets’ QB:
They got onto the Brett Favre issue. Sal didn’t hold back. He outright says he doesn’t like Brett Favre, that Favre is one of the most overrated players of all time, and that Favre is lying and mischaracterizing all the things that went down over that summer. He goes on to say the he spoke with people that were a part of the conversation and that Favre did call the Lions. He also says that he loves his paycheck from ESPN, but the network “slurps” Favre so bad. As an aside, Sal stated that Matt Garza has huge balls. As a pitcher in big games, of course. It was the first time I’ve ever heard Sal pal have personality.
Garza’s got balls? How about Sal Pal? The guy thinks Barry Sanders and Favre are overrated? We can’t imagine how critical he’d be of, say, Trent Dilfer.
Pro Football talks notes that Sal Pal recently made similar remarks to an Atlanta radio station, which helps put credence in this tale from Denver.

Sal, also not a fan of Troy Smith:
Well one person who disagrees with Suggs’ assessment is ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, who appeared on another 790 Am radio show today and said the reason Suggs supports Smith is because “that whole U of M Crew likes having Smith in the locker room.” Plus, Ray Lewis is a fan of Smith’s and whatever Ray says, Suggs falls in line. But Sal Pal has this news flash for Suggs and Co.:
” Troy Smith is not an upgrade over Joe Flacco. Troy Smith sucks.”

He must be one of those guys who ranks Emmitt ahead of Barry.

Methinks Sal is wanting out of his ESPN contract.

October 24th, 2008 at 10:14 AM
I guarantee this shit will be addressed Sunday on countdown.

Interesting observation. I’ve read and listened to Paolantonio a ton over the years and “lacking personality” is not something I’d associate with Sal.
He’s on Sportsradio 950 here in Philly at least once a week and he’s usually pretty solid. Perhaps ESPN makes him appear stiff and robotic?

now capt. stubing is as alum you can hang your hat on…

Sal is pushing his new book, so he’s hitting all the radio shows. He was on with the Sports Junkies in D.C. a couple days ago and let loose with a few – T.O. is poison, Romo is overrated, and Wade Phillips is a bad coach. He told the story about having to leave his wife’s 50th birthday party to go cover T.O’s “next question” news conference.
Not that any of these thoughts were news worthy or Earth shattering, but it was kind of funny to hear Sal holding court and shooting the shit like a regular dude.

and “lacking personality†is not something I’d associate with Sal
a Phillies fan backing up Sal Pal? im shocked

Sal Pal later added that Donovan McNabb is the greatest QB to ever play the game and Andy Reid is only rivaled by Vince Lombardi himself. When asked about the Pavlik/Hopkins fight later in the interview he said it was nothing compared to Balboa upsetting Lang.

sal pal is a hack…does anyone take him seriously?
i’d believe a mort report before i take anything that asshole has to say.

When asked about the Pavlik/Hopkins fight later in the interview he said it was nothing compared to Balboa upsetting Lang
that is too funny

Has nothing to do with fan-dome. Just a simple matter of being exposed to Paolantonio’s work for far longer than people outside of the Philadelphia market. He lives in South Jersey, so he’s on the radio alot more here than say, DC or Florida.
Just a different perspective; that’s all.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:31 AM
fucking hack…hopkins is a little bitch. he fights to not get knocked down, he doesn’t fight to win. i’d love to see him actually win a fight without a scorecard.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:33 AM
“T.O. is poison, Romo is overrated, and Wade Phillips is a bad coach.”
And any of that is untrue??
October 24th, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Ask Oscar De La Hoya. He might have an opinion.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Spence- Dont be mad because your boy from Youngstown got whooped.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:37 AM
Sal Pal is talentless dick. I’m all for busting on Favre for being overrated, but he takes these hackey hit-jobs too far with Sanders and Jeff Fisher.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:41 AM
nail, meet hammer.
i think sal pal’s pretty solid.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:44 AM
Sal is still a tool….Barry Sanders overrated? Are you kidding me? Besides the fact Sanders wasn’t a huge CockBag like E. Smith. Give Sanders the line and help that Smith had and you would see Playstation 2 #’s in the nfl like he had in college…ridiculous. Plus Sanders didn’t play till only the Cardinals would take him. Sal Pal needs to go to that $hithole that is Philly and lick on McNabb’s nutsack a bit more…but ya ESPN does slurp Favre.
The bigger story here is that Favre helped the Lions and they still lost.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Emmitt >>> Barry. Favre is only overrated when compared to the slurping he receives. Troy Smith would be an upgrade over Flacco.
October 24th, 2008 at 10:53 AM
And oh yeah, B Hop beat the living shit out of Pavlik.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:03 AM
Farve is absolutely overrated based on statistics and pretty much any other football-related measure. ESPN slurping Farve certainly isn’t any new thought, but it is nice to hear an employee of WWL say what the rest of us have been saying for years.
I would really like to hear the whole interview.

The quote from the ATL radio show that might bite SalPal…
When discussing Ray Ray, Suggs, Ed Reed and the rest of the U crowd hanging around during training camp, he termed it “Smokin’, Jokin’, and Tokin’”. There is a bit of uncomfortable silence, then a “not literally” from Sal Pal…
Nice. Right down Spence’s alley!
October 24th, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Emmitt isn’t wasn’t half the human or rb that Sanders is was
October 24th, 2008 at 11:29 AM
I appreciate the sentiment Mrs. Sanders, I just don’t agree with it.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Well besides the fact of being a sane sports fan and neither Dallas or Detroit fan, read Boys will be Boys and you will see a different shade of your Messiah. Maybe not though, in the great words of Smith “You cannot change the stripes of a leopard”
