Top Shelf: Sharks Take Bite Out of Wild
NHL November 5th. 2008, 11:15am
Lee Diekemper on the night in the NHL.
Islanders 2, Rangers 1: It must be Christmas season already in the Big Apple. The Rangers’ defense played Santa Claus, giving up two third period shorthanded goals. Richard Park’s unassisted goal was the game-winner.
Sharks 3, Wild 1: Ryane Clowe had a full night. The Sharks’ left wing (Obama pun unintended) had an assist and the game-winner late. If that wasn’t enough, he tangled with Wild defender Erik Reitz late and drew a five-minute major. The Sharks have the NHL’s best record (11-2).
Ducks 1, Kings (OT): If Sean Avery is the most hated player in the NHL, Ducks star Chris Pronger isn’t far behind, at least in the eyes of fans. He further endeared himself with all 17 Kings fans with an overtime goal. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped all 35 Kings shots.
Senators 2, Capitals 1 (OT): Dany Heatley and Mike Fisher scored for the Sens; Fisher’s came in overtime. Alex Ovechkin is back but his head isn’t. Maybe the Russian women he met back home recently were too high maintenance to bring back to America. Vodka snobs.

Is it just me or does it seem there’s a ton more OT/SO games this year?

Any day that includes a win over the Rangers is a good one.

i know its not kosher to revel in injuries (like the entire league did last year with sid) but …. MAAAARRRRTYYY! MAAARRRRRTYYYYY!
couldnt have happened to a nicer guy. and by nicer i mean someone who has had their statistics absurdly inflated by incredible defenses. fuck you marty, i will miss the pens chasing you from net four times a year though.
