Ballin’: And Then There Were Two (Unbeatens)
NBA November 10th. 2008, 11:00am
New York Knicks 107, Utah 99: The Jazz – still playing without Deron Williams – lost their first game of the season due to offensive woes in the third quarter, and the inability to stop Jamal Crawford (32 points) or Zach Randolph (25 points). Newbie PG Chris Duhon scored 16 points and had nine assists.
Los Angeles Lakers 111, Houston 82: It appears as if Phil’s got these guys playing defense this season – T-Mac shot 1-for-11 and Artest was 1-for-12 as the Lakers blew open a close game with a dominant (39-17) fourth quarter. Cue talk of the Lakers and 70 wins.
Atlanta 89, Oklahoma City 85: Even with their best defensive player, Josh Smith, sidelined with injured ankle, the Hawks held the Thunder without a basket for five minutes in the fourth quarter and Atlanta rallied to improve to an unlikely 5-0.
Toronto 89, Charlotte 79: Bosh went for 30 and the Bobcats couldn’t buy a bucket in the fourth (outscore 26-12). It’s taking Jermaine O’Neal some time to get acclimated North of the border: 0-for-5, 5 points in 19 minutes. He’s alternated double-figure scoring games.
Los Angeles Clippers 103, Dallas 92: Baron Davis led six Clips in double figures with 22, and Mike Dunleavy’s crew earned its first win of the season over the Josh Howard-less Mavericks. LA rook Eric Gordon has his best game as a pro with 11.

Portland comes to the Magic Kingdom tonight. Magic have won 4 in a row since the 0-2 start. Nice to see Hernia recap Dwights 31 points, 16 boards, 3 block performance over the Wiz

Their wins are pretty impressive:
@ Orlando

@ New Orleans

Detroit going on a long west coast trip. means 0 practice time for Iverson (insertjoke. Detroit may have a huge hill to climb after this swing.

There were times as recent as a couple of years ago where some people said tmac was better than Kobe. Last night Kobe got into a little bit of foul trouble guarding artest, so what did phil do? He switched Kobe onto tmac to prevent him from getting into further foul trouble.

Don’t know what Houston’s deal is. When your best 3 players shoot a combined 9-33 (Yao went 6-11, T-Mac 1-11, Artest 2-11) you aren’t going to win ball games. Lakers shot 52% from the field Houston shot 37%. I wish I was making that up.
By the way, I’m taking the opportunity now to jump on the Hawks bandwagon. It might be early, and it might not last. But I figure, they aren’t far away from me, they get no coverage, and no one around them cares if they win or not. My kind of bandwagon, nice and roomy.

There was also a time when T-Mac attacked the basket. Apparently this was a long time ago. I think I can come up with 50 players I would rather have than T-Mac right now.

Atlanta won’t make the playoffs.

Will the Garden be alive again this year?
November 10th, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Maybe the Olive Garden.

Eastern teams better than the Hawks (in no particular order)
Celtics
Pistons
Cavs
Raptors
Eastern Teams that are probably better than they are playing right now and should end up better than the Hawks:
Magic
Eastern Teams that are playing well and may end up 10th in east or 5 seed:
Pacers
I think the Hawks are in.

76ers, Chicago
November 10th, 2008 at 11:47 AM
I’ll give you Chicago because they have been competitive in all their games and the games they’ve lost have been close. They beat the teams they should beat.
Philly has to wake up and prove something. They are 2-4 with wins over the mighty Knicks and Kings. They were blown out by Miami and that Orlando game last week was never really close. I’m not buying the 76ers yet. Though I suppose they could join Orlando in “teams that should be playing better.”

The Rockets are just in a slump right now. They’re going to get back on track soon. They pulled this same shit last year, early on at least and then rallied

Detroit has lost two with Iverson, Denver has won two with Billups. Only two games and the Nuggets beat Dallas and Memphis while the Pistons lost to the Celtics but you have to wonder who got the best of the trade.
November 10th, 2008 at 11:57 AM
For this year, Denver clearly won. Let’s give it more than 2 games, though.
November 10th, 2008 at 12:04 PM
If Chicago had someone who could play offense in the low post, they’d be a real threat in the East.

I’d say it’s tougher for an offense to incorporate a scorer like Iverson than a role player like Billups. Let’s give this a little more than 8 quarters to assess.

Wow, Dallas is very mediocre. You know it’s bad when Jason Kidd has a higher shooting percentage than Dirk.
