Ballin’: Nice Cavs Win, Bad Mavs Loss
NBA November 14th. 2008, 10:30am
Denver 99, Cleveland 110: Incredible game for LeBron – 22 points, 11 assists, eight boards – who dominated Melo head-to-head, and seemed way too energized for game nine of the season.
Dallas 91, Chicago 98: At some point this season, we think the Mavs will get blown up. They squandered a 24-5 lead and fell to to 2-6. The Mavs are shooting just 42 percent this season, and their scoring is way off. At what point do you consider trading Dirk and just starting over? Ben Gordon scored 35.
Detroit 107, Golden State 102: Rip had 24 and Iverson had 23 (on 23 shots) and the Pistons quietly improved to 6-2 over an injured Warriors team that seems absolutely clueless on who should play when and where. They really need to shit or get off the pot with this Al Harrington mess.

They squandered a 24-5 lead and fell to to 2-6
Make that 2-7 after they host Orlando tonight. Ericka Dampier is going to get worked
November 14th, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Lebron was a beast last night. Melo needs to get in better shape and learn how to play some D.
Dallas sucks.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:36 AM
D-Howard has been ballin to start the season.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:36 AM
cavs are good.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:38 AM
Great win. I was glad to see Eric Snow at the game last night in the crowd. He’s getting paid $6 million to watch games with his buddies.
/I’ll always be an E-Snow fan
November 14th, 2008 at 10:38 AM
i wonder who the mavs could trade dirk to. he’s really their only movable piece.
kidd, JT, stack … can’t see anyone having much interest. maybe if howard goes on a hot streak they move him …
but where would dirk be a good fit?
November 14th, 2008 at 10:38 AM
Nice win for the Pistons on the road. 2-0 on the west coast with a tought game against the Lakers tonight.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:38 AM
the trade for jason kidd and what they gave up was stupid.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Any team that likes having good players?
November 14th, 2008 at 10:40 AM
How much of this game did you watch last night? None? That’s what I figured. I’m pretty sure Melo never once matched up defensively against LeBron. Thus making your “head-to-head” domination confusing.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:42 AM
He did when Dhangnantay Jones wasn’t in the game. Lebron always guarded Melo, too.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Jesus, 10:30 starts are amazing. Must be a ratings blockbuster.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:44 AM
LeBron did always guard Melo. I’m just confused as to the domination part. Because James had 4 more points? 9 more assists? Melo doesn’t pass, that’s what they brought in chauncey for.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Mark Cuban’s master plan of drafting Brandon Jennings is slowly coming together.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
The Los Angeles Lakers, who are the lone undefeated team in the league, have the third largest point differential through the first seven games to start a season in NBA history.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:47 AM
@irish: I predicted 71 wins for them. Might be low.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:47 AM
Is it just me or does Mello run around like a fat kid? LeBron and Mello were supposed to be a big rivalry and we see Lebron taking off from half court and Mello lumbering around like a weeble with feet. Mello either doesn’t care or is just not genetically apt for basketball.

Dont care. Lebron is too good.

or karl is an idiot and isn’t taking advantage of melo’s post skills. melo can succeed, they’re just trying to fit his pear-shaped peg into a square hole.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:51 AM
@nick p- they’re playing great defense
November 14th, 2008 at 10:52 AM
LeBron needs only 5 more wins to reach .500 in his matchups against Melo. It hasn’t been much of a rivalry indeed.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:53 AM
plenty, from 8-9 during commercials of the jets game. melo guarded him plenty, and Lebron did him up, too.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:54 AM
That might be the funniest thing written all day. Good job spencer
November 14th, 2008 at 10:55 AM
I saw the start of the Bulls game at the gym and stopped paying attention after they were down 24-5. Flipped it on at home later on and couldn’t believe they came back, maybe this Bulls squad actually has some fight in them. Derrick Rose completely dominated old man Kidd, it was great.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:55 AM
He might have the greatest job on earth right now.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:57 AM
What’s up with this “wins” bullshit? Have you seen LeBron’s stats?!?!?!
November 14th, 2008 at 10:57 AM
yea…previous denver games were frustrating as hell because the cavs would ALWAYS get rolled by teams who could run.
but this cavs team is versatile and tough as hell. denver doesn’t get the automatic win anymore because the cavs now have some bigs who can run instead of being forced to play Z 25 mins a game.
November 14th, 2008 at 10:58 AM

Melo struggled to get to 40% shooting last night, and had 6 turnovers largely because of the periods when Lebron guarded him…

November 14th, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Damn that post is typed really f’d up.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:02 AM
starbury might have something to say about that.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:03 AM
This is almost as laughable as the people who cite the Jazz h-2-h record against the Hornets as evidence of Deron Williams’ superiority.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:06 AM
there is no doubt in my mind that eric snow is the worst player in the NBA.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:06 AM
for all the lebron head-to-head talk, is it worth looking at playoff wins?
or playoff series wins? i know the west is tougher … but the Nuggets have also always had a better cast around melo than Lebron has had.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:07 AM
i think it’s worth looking at individual playoff performance…not wins.
we all know lebron > melo, that’s not even up for debate.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:07 AM
The Nuggets have just been one of those teams that, for some reason, have had the Cavs’ number. Spence is absolutely right about them running the Cavs off the court. Luckily, the Cavs can now run Lebron at the 4 and go small to stick with those teams.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Yeah but Snow doesn’t have the humiliation aspect. He’s eating cheese fries and watching hoops.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Yeah, yeah, and if the Nuggets could go up against the Wizards every year, they’d have some series wins as well.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Paul Pierce > Lebron
/running out of room
November 14th, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Or they may cite Williams outplaying Paul in those head to head matchups has a lot to do with the record.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:12 AM
you don’t seriously believe that, do you, irish?
November 14th, 2008 at 11:13 AM
So why doesn’t Deron play as well in other games? Is he a lazy bastard?
Or is it a small sample size?
Pick one.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:15 AM
@Nick P: Or maybe it’s because he legitimately outplays Paul in those game do to how they match up. I think Paul is a much better player, but Williams’s size and strength probably wear on Paul for four quarters leading to him outplaying Paul in the head to heads.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:16 AM
spence is absolutely right: this cavs team is versatile and tough as hell.
teams won’t be able to run on them the way they used to on the cavs and the cavs still posses the ability to play the half court game. Z only played 24 min. keeping those miles off his legs are big for them long run. they can put lbj at the 4, but having hickson at the 4 and lbj at the 3 is just as good in my mind and the same speed is there.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Lets start small and just have Melo win more than 1 game in a series (seriously, never done it).
November 14th, 2008 at 11:19 AM
you don’t seriously believe that, do you, irish?
no i dont spencer. i was kidding
November 14th, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Different systems? Williams isn’t the number 1 scoring option on his team? Boozer > West? I don’t know in what world where 18 and 10 is considered not playing well. Maybe Sloan has decided that the PG matchup is his team’s biggest advantage when they play NO
November 14th, 2008 at 11:26 AM
the melo>lebron head to head compared to d williams > Cp3 head to head is interesting.
so does head to head mean nothing? i think we can all agree CP3 is the better PG, and lebron is the better player. (I would be willing to listen to Deron williams arguments, though).
and yeah, piece has been NUTS since about last postseason. guy has really turned into a star … now that he has KG and Allen with him.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:27 AM
seriously
November 14th, 2008 at 11:27 AM
i do, fuck LeBron.
/no i don’t
//but fuck LeBron anyway.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:28 AM
fail
November 14th, 2008 at 11:29 AM
if i had to pick a PG to run my dream team, it would be Deron Williams. That is just my opinion
November 14th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
no offense, but almost anyone would look like a star if they had KG down low and Allen stretching the D.
pierce is a fucking hack. his sheer existence in the NBA pushes me to the brink of having epilliptic seizures.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:41 AM
You’re consistent, I’ll give you that.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:44 AM
true…but i need some more hate-adjectives for PP. “hack” is getting a little stale.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Over Isiah or Stockton? I still pick Isiah over all, but I am biased. As bad as he was as a GM he was a KILLER at PG and nobody can deny that.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:48 AM
Wiat wait wait… this coming from the guy who kills KG on this site almost daily? So is he a force down low or is he soft and terrible? He can’t be both you know?
November 14th, 2008 at 11:49 AM
yea, gimme zeke as well…he’s a pimp.
i woulda taken mark price over stockton…but that’s just me being a homer.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:50 AM
sure he can…ive never said he was AWFUL, just that he annoys the living shit out of me with his histrionics. he’s a productive player, i don’t know how anyone could argue otherwise.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Ok, I just see you always killing KG on here.
I like KG, always have. I like that he gets all pissed and screams and chest pounds, I dig that shit. Better than the guys who lace ‘em up and get by on sheer talent with no love for the game at all.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Garnett is a legit beast.
I just hate the chest-pounding fagshit he does.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:58 AM
I’ll take Magic Johnson as my PG.
November 14th, 2008 at 11:59 AM
OT: Seeing Iverson in a Pistons jersey has been a dream come true for me this season. There are few times in your life where your favorite active players somehow magically end up on your favorite team. Dumars has done this twice in my short life-time with Sheed and Iverson and for that I am forever greatful. Having a great GM is a blessing that nobody should take for granted.
November 14th, 2008 at 12:04 PM
As a Knick fan, I concur.
November 14th, 2008 at 12:07 PM
Iverson was a beast in that 3rd quarter last night.
